I have a friend stationed in an AFB in Arkansas.  He's half black, or  bleck if you're from South Africa or Lethal Weapon2.  Anyways, during onboarding, he was told to "stay in the city area and avoid sundown towns."  Those can't possibly still exist right?

No, people are free from harassment and crime on every corner in America, no matter their skin color.  It’s a colorblind Utopia.

The only AFB in AR is fewer than 20 miles from Little Rock and is part of the NLR/Conway MSA.  I don't' doubt that there are sundown towns in Arkansas, but that doesn't seem to be a particularly likely location, or any place particularly close.

More likely areas are in NW AR and southern parts.

Which is not to say that your bud won't encounter blatant racism, it's just that most urban/suburban areas in Arkansas, even if small, have way too many blacks to be sundown towns.  Lot like East Texas in that respect.

This thread is making white children feel bad about themselves.  I suggest we remove it or burn it.

Or we can just slather it in lard and let Huckabeef eat it

Surprised that Bowie barely made the list as "suspected". I can take you to the Hanging Tree.

I did my boot camp in South Carolina.  Close to graduation time, our drill sergeant said “go out and have a good time on grad night. You’ve earned it.  To our black soldiers, don’t venture too far from the city”.

It's Arkansas.

And they do exist....even in Texas...apparently there's 11 of them.

Appreciate the links.  Fascinating.   A few of the “suspected towns” are a reach though.  For example port neches grove is definitely not a sundown town

It wasn't all that long ago that I first hand saw a sign outside a business in "Downtown" Livingston Texas that said "colored entrance in back" so definitely believe at least some of these still exist, deep east Texas especially.

This thread is bullshit.  There's no systemic racism in America anymore.  Just municipal racism.  Totally different.

Yeah, the suspected list is more than a little sus. Lots of the communities/counties listed are just rural places in West and South Texas that never really had much of a large Black population historically because they didn't have large industries that would've attracted African Americans during the Great Migration era.
