His posts are always so full of hyperbole that you wonder what's reality and what's being a crabby old fart. I took the family to see Superman at that same Alamo. Sure, the food isn't as good as it once was so we try for non-meal times and just get a pretzel and some shakes. The 9 trailers thing is laughable. You get maybe 4-5 with the normal Alamo monthly spot. I don't mind that theater because it's got the large format screen and Dolby Atmos. If he chose the Big Show, yeah it's more money. They tell you that upfront. The trays are fine. The other ones like Lake Highlands have one table per two seats. Both have reclining seats. I'd opt for an Alamo 10 out 10 times unless it's a 70MM IMAX movie. I'm used to someone doing something that bothers me during a movie like servers walking in front of me but that blows talking assholes on their phones and the in general AMC experience out of the water. We also do the monthly pass for all 4 so if we got to more than 1 movie a month, it pays for itself. I'm going to Eddington today. I'm going to count how many previews there are. July 20Jul 20 Alamo is the best for those who want the whole food/waiter experience. Personally, I want to snag a large Coke Zero and bag of popcorn before I go in and then once the previews start, leave me the fuck alone. I don’t go to eat meals during movies. I’d rather eat better food off-site before or after the show. I don’t need to be continuously brought beers during a movie and I sure as shit don’t need a bucket of them. The servers can be distracting anyways.
July 20Jul 20 did any of yall ever have that pizza with brussels sprouts and bacon and goat cheese before they took it off the menu? I think they brought me one by accident one time and it was so good I probably ordered it every time after. it’s been gone for years though.
July 21Jul 21 2 short Alamo spots and 6 trailers in front of Eddington today. Movie started 13 minutes after. Fine for me because I don't see movie trailers as an affront to my movie going experience. It isn't AMC giving me 4 different unrelated commercials. Edited July 21Jul 21 by mdmost
July 21Jul 21 alamo set the bar for the movie starting at the published start time i'm ok with trailers some what i'm not ok with is charging $56 without start time precision it's not just their time, it's OUR time, except i'm the one paying for it /mr. hand
July 21Jul 21 Okay Grandpa. Send another letter to the UIL and I'm sure movie theaters will go against something they've always done in showing trailers for movies they want people to come back and see.
July 21Jul 21 Yes, these movie trailers are a totally new thing. No theater has ever shown Previews of Coming Attractions, until now!
July 21Jul 21 allow me to retort as i said above i am ok with trailers alamo used to start the film at the published show time there was an implied bargain now they play trailers after the published show time implied bargain broken
July 21Jul 21 They have always played trailers before the film actually starts. The film is scheduled to being at 2:30, they start playing their monthly promo and then trailers. The movie has never started at 2:30. There have always been trailers, spots for Alamo merch, or the monthly theme/upcoming Alamo programming. I have tickets to Fantastic Four on Sunday. The time the previews start is 4:15, the time I bought the movie for. I really don't get what you're getting at. Do you expect that the 2:40 showing of Superman starts exactly at 2:40? You think they show trailers before 2:40? The preshow ends when the published start time begins.

Also, this has been true for the hundreds, if not thousands, of theatrical films I’ve seen in my life at a host of different theaters.
July 21Jul 21 Anyway I'm good with trailers. I like to know what's coming and I like to see the previews in full sound and glory on the big screen. I don't like pre-movie commercials, straight up product advertisements. And none of the Alamo Drafthouse locations I've ever been to, have shown those (aside from promoting their own theaters/merch that is). Edited July 21Jul 21 by utee94
