What a rhythm section. finally got around to listening to Beato's interview with Michael Beinhorn (GREAT interview, btw) and the story about how Chad got the gig is fantastic. They needed a drummer, held auditions, and Chad was the last guy to show. Everyone before him had been total junk, and he showed up like a big ol frat boy who totally didn't jive with the band's other personalities, so they were bummed that they'd struck out. And then... he started to play. And that was it. Nearly 40 years with the band.

I'd switch stations whenever that came in the radio before. Same thing with most New Wave. I only discovered Missing Persons recently, and while most of their shit is shit, when they are good they're very good.

Every time a big time band made their way to the Amarillo Civic Center, it seemed there were 3-4 big tours where the opening act was Bon Jovi. For years. When they were big enough to headline, that's when you knew it was all over. You see, they didn't get any better. All the good bands had broken up, got strung out on drugs, usually both. It is no coincidence that Slippery When Wet and Van Hagar both happened in 1986. hair metal was over after 1985.

Remember that live version of "Whatever gets you through the night" with Lennon, Elton, and Bobby Keys? You're kind of making my point for me -- the Stones didn't have Bobby play a solo on every song. Springsteen had Clemons play a solo on damn near every song (and now his son). I didn't hate it, it just felt repetitive. Kinda like Roy Bittan using that bell tone on keys all the time.

July 26, 20241 yr is "In the City" an Eagles song? I though that was a Walsh solo deal. It’s on The Long Run
July 26, 20241 yr Author The more I thought about it, the more I decided y'all are full of shit. Forgive me for using wiki, but The track was first recorded by guitarist Joe Walsh for the soundtrack to the 1979 movie The Warriors; the Eagles liked what they heard and decided to record it for their album The Long Run. "In the City" is a rock song written by Barry De Vorzon and Joe Walsh. It was first recorded by Walsh and released on the soundtrack for the 1979 film The Warriors.[1] Another version of the song, recorded by Walsh's band the Eagles, was included on their album The Long Run, released the same year.

From what I have read I’m of the opinion that Paul Rothchild was probably the biggest reason the first five albums really weren’t that good. Robbie and Ray have been quoted many times on how Paul was a creative problem with the band. Maybe it was a coincidence, but LA Women, by far their most successful effort. Only happened after Rothchild was gone.

Only happened after Rothchild was gone. Perhaps this belongs on the unpopular opinions thread, but I think the first two Doors albums are really good. The middle period is hit and miss, but LA Woman is a classic. I can understand why some people don't care for the Doors. Morrison could be an insufferable prick, and you either like (or tolerate) his "poetry" or you don't. So I "get" the dislike. But there's a chunk of their catalog that I enjoy. They aren't my favorite band by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't change the channel on 'em, either.
July 30, 20241 yr I think Boston appeals to a pretty specific demographic -- mine. Young FM album oriented rock listeners in the mid-70s. It was an eye-opening sound after nearly a decade of blues-rock. Nobody had ever heard that guitar sound. Very few singers could match Brad Delp. My biggest knock on the band was the lyrics, because Tom Scholz is a genius dork who was out of his element there. C'est la vie. The songs still sounded incredibly fresh.
