BTW, Jalin Flores is slotted as the 116th-ranked prospect. That's mid-fourth round to the Giants with a slot value of $624.80k. He has a lot of leverage, and will next draft too. Would not be a surprise to see him come back.

SCOOP: This is really cool. @TxStateBaseball is hiring former @TexasBaseball HC David Pierce as the Assistant to the Head Coach for Steven Trout. Pierce spent the last 8 years as the HC for the #Horns, guiding the program to 3 CWS appearances. Strong pickup for Trouty and Co.

Fun coaching pickup for the Bobcats, even funnier job title

This is quite ironic given his poor ability to hire and effectively manage his assistant coaches at Texas.

Source: @TexasBaseball All-American shortstop Jalin Flores is returning to the #Horns for another season. Flores was one of the top available college players in the #MLBDraft. He's now returning to Austin. Obivously, massive news for the Longhorns.

There’s your confirmation. https://t.co/tv4WbVHqjd

I assume this means we now have a baseline for our infield options with Rodriguez 3B, Flores SS, Mendoza 2B, and Borba 1B.

Texas A&M baseball has added to their 2024 signing class as RHP Gavin Lyons has committed to the Aggies while on campus for a visit. Huge upside here that could impact next year’s pitching staff because of his unique delivery and arm talent. He had previously signed with Texas.

Had to make room for Gage Boehm.  Adious.

Holy shit. That alone makes this team pretty fucking salty all the sudden

#2568

Yeah, this team may fuck next season. The bullpen looks really good and the offense should produce enough on average. Just need to nail down the starting pitching roles.

At least we won’t spend all of non con and half of conference “experimenting” because the pitching coach has no fucking clue what he’s doing.

Also lol @Balcones husband not being able to land a HC job and being relegated to asst at Texas St

You must be conflicted.  Pierce at your alma mater now?

Maybe we'll be able to beat Texas State now...

I'm told Fargo's Drew Rerick has pulled out of the MLB Draft. Rerick had a signing number he wasn't going to go below and the NIL number at Texas is above what some MLB teams signing pool has left.So Rerick is heading to Texas next season.

That's a big win to get him on campus.

Not sure with all the young talented arms we have coming to campus. He seems to have starter stuff but so does Navarre? I guess as of right now our weekend starters are Grubbs, Ace and Burns(?).

This is kind of shocking.  Texas State does NOT pay well at all.

Been keeping up with this one.  Great feud.  [[Jim Lampley voice]] And BOW with a haymaker that connects as the third round ends]]

I would bet his offers were limited.  I imagine that everyone knows by now that he doesn't play well with others.

I don’t think he’s hurting for money

Yeah, and this thread still had him landing at either Rice or UH.  Jose Cruz JR is 61-112, and Rice would rather have him than Pierce?  Ouch.

#2592

Didn't DP's wife make some reference to not wanting to have to move if he got fired, the implication being they couldn't afford their house w/o something close to his UT salary?  I remember looking up his address at one point, I think it was in Tarrytown, sort of a medium large McMansion in the low millions range.  Not as elaborate as Mack's old house on Balcones @ Edgemont, but nice enough.

I’d be surprised if Ace or Grubbs are starters but it’ll be nice to have competition

TxState's pitching coach (who's actually really good) had a salary of $80K in 2023.

Ace did yeoman’s work this year but he should not be the primary starter. Love him as a Tuesday night or maybe Sunday afternoon or even a solid middle relief/change of pace.

He can be a RHP or 1B. I’m assuming he’ll be a pitcher. Already touches 93-95 on his fastball. Probably get some relief appearances or midweek starts in low pressure situations to start. 58th overall prospect and 16th pitcher in the class of 2024 by Perfect Game.

The thing is one of atm’s best starters never touched 91 consistently. Weiner can develop Ace in to a good starter and his injury made him look worse than he should have been this year.

#2598

I also forgot about Gage. If the reports of him coming back are true, then i’d bet he’s a strong contender to be a weekend starter.

100%. Ace should some velo back, he clearly knows how to pound the strikezone. With better coaching I see no reason he can’t be a weekend starter again.

I’d much rather have him first outta the bullpen or closer. Depends on what happens with Mercer

Must be doing it to vest that sweet retirement fund that he’s 8 (plus Sam?) years into.
