I take it back! Louisville announced:

Quote

Head coach Dan McDonnell announced Tuesday during his coaches show that junior right-hander Patrick Forbes will be the Friday night starter for the season-opener against No. 19 Texas.

On a Louisville pitching staff that struggled immensely last season, Forbes was one of their lone bright spots. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hander made 12 appearances and four starts in 2024, posting a 3.72 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 29.0 innings pitched, and striking out 32 batters while walking only 15.

How do I stream Texas Baseball and Texas Softball on SECN+ at the same time? Do I need to download a new computer?

I am sure Tech will be starting their new million-dollar pitcher, that they purchased from Stanford.

I guess one way would be to put the baseball stream and the softball stream on different pages and cut them in size and put them both up on your computer.

Kind of like a computer version of a tv multi-view sports screen.

I was just listening to Schloss' interview yesterday on the LHN app, and he basically said they wouldn't be playing in this tournament if it wasn't already on the schedule when he arrived. Said he prefers to open the season at home.

Also said he inherited a 2026 series at U of San Diego (return trip from when they came here last year) and the tournament at Minute Maid the third weekend of the season.

Hell yes, USD is just down the street from me, so I'll definitely be there next year!

The Facebook.

I’m in such a good mood about having Schloss as HC.  I’m not expecting instant success but think he will probably win at least one NC during his tenure which is refreshing.

Well i don't recognize the name Spencer or TBA. Is TBA related to DDA??

I think he's as solid a hire in terms of predictable future success as Chris Beard was (dammit).  A&M finished last in the SEC West in 2021 (9-21, 29-27), and he showed up and got them to the top of the SEC West in year one (19-11, 44-20, 2-2 in Omaha).  And, we all know what they did in 2024.

And then we hired him.  I'm still laughing at that one.

Cross-posting from another thread for conversation - I decided to go down a historical rabbit hole:

  • Sorting by title percentage, LSU's rate is impressive for a team that's been there 19 times
  • For teams that are still annually relevant, Vanderbilt and Oregon State have very good title rates, but their overall appearances aren't very high
  • At least we're not aggy (see very bottom), or FSU, for that matter
  • Thank God college baseball is back! Let's go get number 7!
  • Note: not every team with a CWS appearance is listed, but all with a title are. Teams at the very bottom have the most appearances without a title (in descending order)

It is only fair to point out that USC under Rod Dedeaux - great teacher of the game that he was - enjoyed a similar, against the rules advantage that John Wooden and UCLA basketball enjoyed.  They bought the best players and he had no other program to challenge his blatant disregard for the rules until Jim Brock showed up in Tempe.

Dedeaux and USC owned California and Arizona till actually Arizona and Jerry Kindall brought the first challenge and then Brock and ASU.

Kindall won titles at Arizona in 1976, 1980, and 1986. He won more titles than Brock did. Brock only won two in 1977 and in 1981. Brock and ASU won many more games than Kindall and Arizona.

Kindall was the first player and head coach to win titles in Omaha. He won as a player in 1956 with Minnesota against ironically Arizona.

Dedeaux always seemed like a great guy. He loved the atmosphere at Disch-Falk when the Trojans would play there.

Brock was kind of a prick and the games between ASU and Texas were usually hotly contested in Austin and Tempe. Lots of jawing and a few scuffles involved.

I went to series at both sites, and it was great baseball.

Bobby Bonds and Oddibe McDowell vs Dennis Cook and Greg Swindell.

I think you mean Barry Bonds.  I remember seeing them at Disch-Falk, and all the Wild Bunch guys pointing him out saying, "That's Bobby Bonds's kid".  I also remember every time Odibie McDowell came up to bat, they'd break out singing, "You outta be in pictures".  I miss those guys.  They were almost as entertaining as the games.

Does someone know how many returning players are on the team, how many transfers are on the team and how many freshmen we have?

Just wondering what the team make-up is this year.  Hoping for an upgrade in the pitching staff as well.

Great talent from his dad but unlike him, such an asshole.

Even in college, when he was booted from the team by Brock. Brock held a team vote about letting him back on and the other players voted a definite NO. Brock unfortunately overruled the team vote and let him back on anyway.

our historical performance across all men's sports when the national title is within sight isn't very good. it's pretty frustrating actually.  football as another example missed out on 6 opportunities in my life time - I think 77, def 83, also 08 and 09 with Colt, and twice with Quinn. during that time, football has only won it once. 1/7 is right in line with baseball's historical average.

and show my a Schloss?

I guess I'm glad we got that out of the way.

Now get that fucking swagger back. Texas mojo is about the only thing that can save me from this hellscape.

a schwinn for ya.

Have been thinking about doing what you did there.

Didn't think it would go over really well.

Schwinn used to be the "Cadillac" of bicycles at one time.

I made myself chuckle, and in the end that's the only reason why I'm here, to entertain myself.

It's too early for we've hired an aggy to be our head coach....  Tomorrow maybe?

Kind of interesting to watch since it was done before the game last night.

This is a load of crap.

38 trips to the CWS with six titles. Eight teams make it. We have slightly worse than one title for every six trips. Better than the 1-in-8 winner average.

Making it to the final? We've been runner-up six times to go with our six titles, meaning we are 6 for 12. Exactly average.

Get a fucking grip.

Fuck off look at the table. It’s just a fact.

What, exactly, is a fact? That we have won titles only 16% of the time we've gone to Omaha?

You do realize that the EXPECTED value is only 12.5%, right? And we have beaten that.

So, what FACT are you referring to?
