I think the Connie is the most beautiful multi engine aircraft of all time. Prove me wrong.

I wouldn’t disagree.

At some point, you pull the power back and that thing has to land.

And you pray your landing gear doesn’t get crushed.

Or get blown into a hangar.

We get there as the plane is coming in for landing. Damn what a sight. Commander of the Squadron walks up and says here you go Sir, here are your tickets. He looks at me and says ya ready? There were three. Wife was tired, long week and decided to stay and just relax. Dad gave them to one of the cadets and we all went off to board. I have flown on a lot of aircraft, but this was one to never be forgotten. @RDCanecutter and @Braff Zacklin, you know I am looking for the model to build.

Wife is pissed. But hey, she made the decision and he would not ruin my surprise.

Damn what a surprise. Damn what a flight. And pretty cool to do it with the 84 year old Colonel.

He is going take us out in the AM and if weather permits, go again.

So the wife opted out but is still pissed? Typical…

I will let it slide. I think she is acting pissed, but she knows that was a cool thing to do with my dad. We came up here since tomorrow is mother's day. My mother and Step-Mother (like a mom to me) are both gone. Wife's as well. So we all decided to hang out. But that is another story.

She had driven about 2K miles in the past week, including being in the field in fucking Oklahoma. She hates that damn place. If I had known we were going up, I would have pushed the issue.

But hoping the weather clears up for a 2 hour window tomorrow and she can go up and I get to go again!

We went out. Saw the plane taking off, got all excited. Go up to her ticket and the woman tells us, that was the last flight, weather coming in fast.

Who fucked up here?

The Air Force is investigating what caused an ejection seat to go off, killing an instructor pilot on Monday.

The incident happened at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls.

The instructor, Captain John Robertson, was training with the 80th Flying Training Wing.

The instructor was in a T-6A Texan II when the ejection seat activated during a ground operation.

Captain Robertson died from injuries sustained from the incident.

If you ever fly into Savannah, make sure to pay attention to the Air Force side of the runway. They had an assortment of the different jets the AF fly as well as a number of T-38 Talons and other planes. My pilot took his time on the approach to takeoff so we could check everything out. They also had a Sikorsky CH-53K sitting out there, it’s hard to believe how massive that helicopter is even sitting next to F-22’s and 35’s. This isn’t my picture, but this is what it looks like right off the edge of the runway except the planes are all newer versions.IMG_0665.thumb.jpeg.34dc82c6a5a7fd4ac3a77aeabb954ccb.jpeg

Is there a big repair facility at the Charleston airport? Bunch of Luftansa, Singapore, KAL (?) planes off to the side. That’s the only explanation I can think of.

Question about taking a pistol to the airport, everything I Google refers to travelers basically.

I have a gate pass to get to our hangars, and I have a CCL. So there is a pistol in my truck at all times. I know the security, ops guys, and even the manager well. Is it legal to have the gun in the area I am restricted to? And I mean in my center console, not on my person while outside my truck.

That is fine.

You can have a pistol in the airport (like IAH) as it is public property, just as long as you don’t try and pass security.

Airport is public property, so you’re fine in your private hanger.

If you wanted to carry your gun on your person to your plane, that should be just fine. But that private FBO might have a rule against it but in your car castle applies.

Thank you sir. I have put my shotgun in a case by the book and ammo in a separate bag to go to SE texas to duck hunt (Liberty Muni) a few times, I wasn’t worried about that.

Had to go get my 3C medical today, and holy crap the guy who used to do it before was not thorough or the new guy is really thorough.

My old guy was in antlers OK, dr Ellis. I had heard he was a little lax, but we all used him in the club because he was a fun old man and did the medical at the airport. He passed away last year. Greaaaat dude. He played on the national ping pong team in the early 70s, double I, and cut off his first student shirt in 71. If you didn’t drink one of his Snapple soda drinks he was offended. I’m decent at ping pong and 10 years ago at 70ish he beat my ass.

New guy basically made me do dwi stuff with eyes closed palms up and down type of stuff, can’t cheat on reading glasses, etc.

No real point to this post but I let a lot of old timers I know today to find another 3C guy because they will go to Sport if they use him.

YouTube algorithm recommended this gem recently.

The F-15QA is an exclusive version for the Qatari Emiri Air Force. They supposedly ordered 36 with an option for 36 more. First one was delivered in 2021.

Check out those maneuvers, man. Like @ about the 2:30 mark. Keep in mind that this plane, in clean configuration, can accelerate vertically and tops out at Mach 2.5+.

The basic 50-year-old design remains but it's now fully FBW with updated avionics and systems from nose to nozzle. It's only weaknesses are cost and lack of stealth.

King of the fucking hill.

My Aggie neighbor flew an F-15 in GW1.
After he retired from the USAF he graduated to driving a 737 for SWA.
Good man.

Question for our pilots: what's the fallout from an incident like that?

The pilot did well to make an emergency landing on a public highway. Got the plane down intact and nobody was hurt. But running out of fuel seems like a pretty massive mistake.

Is the FAA the one that rules on such matters? And are we looking at a suspended license or potentially much worse?

I hope they keep a few adult diapers in the first aid kit to help out pilots who experience that.

Pretty nice North American line up. Man I need to get back to Oshkosh. Odd there’s not a Texan in there. It’s not like there’s a shortage.

I'm sure they wanted to keep it prop-only, but I wouldn't have minded seeing a Sabre in there.

Bottom line, you can never fit too many warbirds in a picture!

Historic feels a bit hyperbolic, given the actual history of the C130.

Biggest moonshine delivery of all time.

Apparently this is a designated low flying training area in The Netherlands.

My hot take... The pilot will eventually get a call/letter from the FAA asking for more info. Unlikely there will be a suspension unless there were other blatant issues like expired medical, lapsed 24 month flight review, the plane wasn't airworthy, etc. Main downside for the pilot is for all future job applications/forms he'll have to check "Yes" he has been involved in an incident and will have to share the details with future employers. Maybe not an automatic disqualifier but it sucks having to explain it. But if the pilot is only flying for leisure with no aspirations professionally there's not likely to be any further consequences.
