Ridley Scott had a lot of ideas over the years and later in life has had the juice to get them funded and is now spitting out an epic type thriller almost every year that is rushed and half-assed throughout. He’s made 6 movies since The Martian and every one has been underwhelming, messy, and rightfully criticized. He’s almost 90, so not sure how many more of these projects he has left. I’m sure his brother’s death has played a role in how his career has unfolded these past ten years.

Saw it a few days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. The original was pretty cheesy at times as well, so those parts didn't bother me. The monkey CGI was terrible and the idea of sharks in the coloseum was dumb, but again, not a big deal to me. I would have like more backstory about Lucius being sent away and why if he was indeed being targeted as a legitimate heir to the throne nobody seemed to care. Also strange to me that Maximus' plot in the original was his love for his wife and son who looked to be around the same age as Lucius, but he was fucking around with the Queen. Probably normal for the times but weird.

Hm.  Good point.  They actually say in the first movie that they are about the same age.

I was about to chime in that Lucius seemed older than his boy but I’ll be damned if you’re not right. I remember that line. “my son is also nearly eight.”

Movie was dogshit. Retreading the same story but worse and with no real character development for anyone. No ones motivations made any sense, even the action slop was mediocre. Fuck off.

Haven't seen a second of this movie, but I heard it's Sharknado bad.

I think he knocked Lucilla up on his bachelor party.  Then got married like a week later and knocked his wife up.

She wasn't a queen.  The Romans didn't have them and she was never the wife of an emperor anyway.  If you asked ChatGPT to make a sequel to Gladiator, it would probably look a lot like this movie.

So, basically most of the new stuff coming out of Hollywood?

I'm a big fan of Derek Jacobi, and his minor ending when the queen is tied in the middle of the arena was comical.  I almost missed it it was inconsequential for such an iconic actor when he was killed in the Coliseum.

as a standalone movie it's entertaining.  if you compare it to the first you'll be disappointed.

I don't think Ralphie Cifaretto would have enjoyed it nearly as much as the original.

was trying to leo snap and figure out where the twins were from.

older brother easy from stranger things. Sick ass Metallica riff in the upside down.

the little brother I couldn’t nail it. then did research and saw he played Sydney Sweeney brother in white lotus. Wasn’t he beating his meat to Hawaiian dudes ?

That was terribad and I want a refund.

I had read nothing about the movie and called, "Lucius!" on the opening scene.  Jesus Christo...

I streamed it tonight because it was free (well as free as anything is on a streaming service).  The starving baboon army, the saddle broken rhino and the sharks were over the top teribad.   The plot was pretty ridiculous.  I will say however, that the old senator from the original movie looked like he hadn’t aged a day. I suppose that I was semi entertained.

gracchus gave you a semi?

this kinda sucked. glad I didn't waste money to go see this in the theater. I know Denzel is a good actor but this casting felt so out of place, it was distracting. The plot felt like a fever dream mashup of the original Gladiator and Training Day.

I would call denzel an extremely charismatic actor who, in the right roles, can put extremely charismatic and magnetic characters on screen.  I would not call him a very versatile actor.  I enjoyed this movie well enough but I thought he was one of the weak spots.

I’m going to with…..

garbage

speeches are long winded. Fights are contrived and stupid. Plot is crap. Denzel is Denzel playing Denzel. Boss fights are stupid. CGI is obvious. It looked made for TV. Totally unnecessary sequel.
Thumbs down.

Does dummy empower number 2 have syphilis brain rot?  I think his brother said that.

Just watched this.  I had someone telling me just last weekend that this was better than the first. That person was wrong. This is not a good movie.

My wife's friends told her it was "the sequel you didn't know you needed."

I straight up misinterpreted that to mean it was a decent story.

I couldn’t make it far with the movie. Whole premise made no sense to me and it wasn’t difficult to guess how it would end. Maybe it would end differently, but I’ve never know.

it sounds like that's what your wife's friend believes.  you didn't misinterpret.  your mistake was lending credence to a woman's opinion.

Just watched on Prime. Pretty bad. While Connie Nielsen’s acting was awful, she looked damn good for someone who was 58 when this was filmed.

This movie sucked ass

Denzel was the only even decent part and only because of how weird he was and how he was always touching everything. It was like he had been deprived of any contact his whole life and was going to touch every single thing he saw until he died. His movement was extremely odd.

I would argue that it wasn’t great but didn’t suck ass, and that denzel was awful.

It was fucking terrible. If it were just Denzel touching stuff, it could have been cool (and about four minutes long).

I thought it sucked, but I still watched the whole thing and was semi-entertained.  That probably says more about me than the movie though

dang, I always thought you were a pretty good poster.
