April 22Apr 22 Hope they max on attendance and it occurs regularly for premier games when schedule permits. Quote Texas volleyball is set to make history, announcing Monday it will host its first-ever match at the 10,000-seat Moody Center this season. The opponent will be traditional power, nine-time NCAA Champion and Longhorn volleyball rival Stanford with the match played on Sunday, September 7. This will mark the 36th time Texas and Stanford have met in Volleyball, including facing each other in each of the last eight seasons (not including COVID year of 2020). Ticket information will be available later today. After opening the season at the Opening Spike Classic against Creighton and Wisconsin, Texas hosts its first 'home' match of the year against the Cardinal in what head coach Jerritt Elliott hopes to be a sellout crowd of 10,000 fans. "We have a great opportunity to bring volleyball to the biggest stage in Austin and what an awesome place to do it at the Moody Center," Elliott said. "We know how incredible our fans are in Gregory Gym, now it's time to bring that same energy across the street. We're hosting a fantastic opponent; it will be a truly special day, and we know this will draw the attention of the NCAA world. Sports fans everywhere should mark the calendar for this one. We can't wait to see Longhorn nation on September 7 and put a huge spotlight on our great sport." https://texaslonghorns.com/news/2025/4/21/texas-volleyball-set-to-host-stanford-in-first-ever-match-at-moody-center.aspx

Yes, but Texas traditionally has not played their incoming MBs as true freshman. Ames was an exception and she really struggled with reading blocks and her lateral speed. And she was a top ranked MB recruit.
May 2May 2 Rumor is Mari wanted a comparable NIL deal to what Stafford is getting… We’ll be young again in the middle unless Elliott goes after an experienced MB in the portal but don’t know if there is anyone. If not, Bunton is finally healthy and looked much improved in the spring matches. Also FR Taylor Harvey will be coming in the fall.

Mari can hammer the ball when she has an open net, but she really didn't have much shot selection variation as a middle hitter. And I always thought she hit the slide attack on the way down from her approach, instead of hitting it at the apex. She never hit over the block with the slide attack like McCage, Chiaka, or Asjia. Her blocking was good when the other team was out-of-system, but she was so slow to read the opposing setter in in-system plays. Ames looked much improved in her footwork in closing the blocks this spring. Bunton was probably the quickest out of all them moving laterally, but her offense is still a work in progress. But it may not matter that much as I think the pins will carry the team offensively next season. We just need the MBs to block well.
June 3Jun 3 Author I like that non-conf schedule Only play everyone once due to the SEC tournament + Vandy's first year doing volleyball
June 3Jun 3 Author Only a 23 match schedule + SEC tournament. But I’m ok with it due to the OOC being as good as it is
June 3Jun 3 Anyone know anything about Tudor Fieldhouse? Is it difficult to get tickets? My youngest daughter is playing and loving volleyball and just asked me last week if I'd take her to see Texas play this year.

I haven't been, but TXST has played there a couple times recently and it has never been remotely crowded on tv (stream). Yes, I'm aware of the differences between our programs/fanbases - just saying. It holds 5200, so I wouldn't think you'd have any problem getting tickets. I'd call the Rice ticket office and ask them when single game tickets go on sale, and set yourself a calendar reminder to call back on that day. Can't imagine you wouldn't be able to get great seats, especially if you're early on the purchase.

Not really a bad seat in the house. All bench seating. It should be a good crowd. The students will show up for sure. "Safe-Ty Schoo-oool" clap clap clap is their favorite chant. If you can, get seats towards the middle of the court. Doesn't matter which side. I would be a little surprised if it sells out, but not entirely. Rice will give out tickets to high schools and local club teams in group packages to try to make sure the place is full. In any case, the place will be pretty packed. 3000 minimum. I've gone to multiple matches there. It's pretty full even for exhibition games if Texas is playing. Try to take her to Gregory Gym if you get the chance. I didn't compare the home schedule to football, but sometimes you can make it an extended weekend. It's arguably the best home court atmosphere in volleyball.

I want to bring my family (and my younger daughter who played her first year of club) to a combo FB and VB weekend. I know Moody would be a unique experience but I’m wondering if Gregory might be worth it for more of the regular home scene. We have been to a couple of the Stanford games here at PA but I’d love to do a combo weekend. I need her to get hyped on Texas volleyball because right now her favorite player is *gasp* Harper Murray despite me telling her the awesomeness of Maddie Skinner. She asked to watch a Nebraska game on YouTube the other day and you can guess which game I chose to play. Haha. Edited June 6Jun 6 by Xminus6

June 6Jun 6 So would you guys recommend the “classic” environment at Gregory or the new experience at Moody? She has only been to a couple NCAA games at Stanford (vs. Texas) and a couple at St. Mary’s in the town where we live and maybe a game at Cal she might have gone with a friend.
