did the reviewers even leave austin ???

Can you blame them?

Austin and Houston cleaning up.  Dallas getting shut out.  But the best chances are coming up.

Olamaie with a star, that one surprised me. I liked it but…

it’s in old town spring

No 2 or 3 stars in the state, and that feels ok. I thought there would be a couple 2’s but am surprised by the volume of 1’s in austin.

Emmer and rye was the worst fine dining experience I’ve ever had. Really discounts this entire list.

the true gold in all this is discussing who should and should t be on the list

I’ve had 2 great experiences there.

Man, if I'm giving a Mueller a star, I'm picking one who is still alive.

Wasn't impressed when I went there either.

i was hoping katami would get a star 🥺🥺

I’m a huge fan of both of his places. Kata is better again. The service at Katami is incredible, but the food is better at kata.

Also, happy for BCN. Probably my favorite place in Houston after Agnes.

Finally, I gnashed my teeth over Austin’s inflated representation in the guide.

There, I said it. I just don’t buy that Austin is a better food city than Houston. I’ve always chafed at Austin’s sense of self-importance, and this is gonna make it worse, just you wait and see.

Based on my stop in Taylor last Friday, I'd say they got it right if we only are talking Mueller lineage joints.

Well, that's unfortunate.  I've always loved Louie Mueller and don't recall any subpar meals there.  Plus, the vibe of the place really can't be beat.  I hope you just caught them on an off day.

I mentioned this in the BBQ thread.  The beef rib was excellent.  The sausage was great.  And the brisket, although tender, had no bark and was extremely disappointing.  My only trip to LaBBQ was post-Lewis, but both the beef rib and brisket were top notch that day.

Yes, the vibe at LM is great and the people were as friendly as they come.  But I just couldn't believe that the brisket I was served came off the same pit or was cooked by the  same person who cooked that delicious beef rib.

I don't buy that either. I'm not sure I buy it's a better food city than Dallas - on the level. I guess there are more elite BBQ places and trendy spots geared towards garnering stuff like Michelin stars.

$15 or $20 consistently gets you better food in Dallas or Houston and the ethnic range is much more diverse.

I think Austin has gotten a lot better, though and it's been a few years since I've lived in Dallas.

Given all the BBQ places, Franklin no where to be found is the most surprising of all of it.

Hidden Omakase in Houston should have a star.  They're on par with a lot of the Michelin omakase restaurants I've been to in NYC, San Fran and Tokyo.  I can't believe they didn't get anything.

For some reason I just never had a desire to eat at Olamaie, and didn't go until January of 2023 for my wife's birthday, and it was fantastic.  But by comparison, I went to a restaurant in Reims, France several years ago that had a Bib rating and it blows Olamaie out of the water.  I'm not sure if that's because of the level of competition in France, or I just don't know shit about fuck when it comes to Michelin ratings.

But happy that Austin is getting the culinary recognition.  When I moved back to Austin from Dallas in 2003, we were still several years away from the advent of (1) fine dining, and (2) outstanding BBQ that surpassed the old guard.  Guess it just comes with overall growth as a large city.
