The Brian Schottenheimer hire is the Jonathan Mingo of trades, the Taco Charlton of draft picks, the Terence Steele of contract extensions, the blinding 3pm glare of stadium designs.

Cowboys 2023 draft is really turning out to be one for the ages

  • 1st round: total bust
  • 2nd round: total bust
  • 3rd round: injured entire first year, but promising in year 2
  • 4th round: not in the NFL anymore
  • 5th round: depth guy
  • 6th round #1: cut after year 1 never having played a single snap for the Cowboys. On another team's practice squad now.
  • 6th round #2: still on the roster but not really a useful NFL player
  • 7th round: 13 career receptions. Cowboys just traded for a guy to take his spot on the depth chart.

So one useful player, two high profile busts, and a couple practice squad/fringe roster types.

the Johnny Walker Blue must have been flowing during the draft that year

I didn't realize Schoonmaker was older than Ferguson.

lol I just Googled 2023 post-draft grades to see what people were saying at the time and found this gem:

nailed it!

They couldn't be bothered to spell Overshown correctly? Honestly though he was wildly inconsistent in his time here.  I didn't think he'd be a consistent contributor on Sundays.

He's been inconsistent with the Cowboys so far, but he's basically a rookie still, and his speed jumps off the screen.

Didn't spell his firm name right either

Why wouldn’t you start Lance? See what you actually got. It’s shit of course, but not starting him and seriously kicking the tires makes that trade look even dumber than it already was.

I think because Cooper Rush has proven that he's capable of winning games.  The Cowboys actually have a pretty decent chance of improving now that their 231-million-dollar mistake can't hurt us anymore.  The wild-card, and even the division, are not out of reach.  We're not even halfway through the season.

you ain't stoppin' Rush to Mingo.  like butter

Breaking: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is planning to undergo season-ending surgery on his partially torn hamstring, pending the opinion of one final specialist, sources told @adamschefter.

who are they drafting in the 4th round?

We're currently projected at the #10 pick per ESPN. You can Google how the NFL draft works. PS it starts at round 1 not 4.

hint: they traded their 4th round pick for the lowest rated route running WR in the NFL.

Surgery, dang. I wonder what kind of medical coverage Dak has.

I read 231m of his contract is guaranteed does injury affect that? Or at least the cap impact?

Nope.  Injury in most of these contracts accelerates the guarantee to a full deal.  Tua’s contract is only fully guaranteed if he is injured out of the league.  The guarantee if cut for cause only gives him two years.

The guarantee here is nuts.  It’s a $240 mill contract. Typically the guarantee would have been $180-200.  Instead Jerry wanted to give him $1 mil more than Watson.  Todd France bent Jerry over and opened him like a shotgun and prison raped him.  That jerrymentia all over again.

just think how different things would be if he was playing out his contract.  Hurt, coming off surgery…Jerry probably gives him a $260 mill contract.

At least the Cooper Rush era 2024 started out with a completion..... after that, well, yea.

Not sure why we don't start Lance and see if anyone will sign him in the offseason.  Get a Comp pick.

The defense is still shitty.

Yep, they should start Lance. At least get some value out of that pick before he's gone, while also bettering their draft position.
