January 22Jan 22 If you’re an Aaron Glenn fan, he surprisingly left New York after his second interview with the Jets yesterday without being hired. The Jets purportedly “weren’t going to let him leave the building” without being named the new head coach.

January 22Jan 22 Um, the Musers seem resigned to the fact that it’s gonna be Brian Schottenheimer. Is this for fucking real????
January 22Jan 22 You might as well get this worked up over who the Cowboys are hiring as equipment manager for all the impact the HC will have on wins/losses and playoff success.
January 22Jan 22 David Moore mentioned in a podcast last week that Jerry just doesn't value what a coach can bring to a team vs a Pro Bowl WR or DE. Goes all the way back to Jerry saying that 500 coaches could've won a SB with this team during the Jimmy split. Apparently he made a comment during week 17 referencing 500 coaches again. Can you imagine thinking coaching doesn't matter. Fuck him.
January 22Jan 22 Jerry certainly loves his puppets. Of course Jerry doesn't value coaches. They take the spotlight away from him and it goes from how Jerry GM'ed the hell out of this thing and that's why they won vs a coach putting everything together to be the reason he and the players won. Jerry will forever be chasing the acclaim of being a football man.
January 22Jan 22 Nobody had any interest in mccarthy when we hired him eitherNobody had any interest in Quincy Carter as a franchise quarterback but Jerry was the only one to see that and pull the trigger. So there.

The value assigned to wins is greatly diminished however, because of the Jerry Jones factor.

Fuck Jerry though, I hope his death is short but painful af.
January 22Jan 22 As a born and bred Oiler Fan I have to watch fucking Tennessee bastardize the memory of my former hometown team. And my newly minted competitive Texans still have a way to climb the mountain. But I have hope! If you are a Cowboys fan what hope do you have? That Jerry dies? Jerry's system is fantastic! He makes most of the big decisions on personnel. He gives record breaking contracts that on a per snap basis have proven to be beyond stupid. But he has the one thing he needs most! A scapegoat! IF 500 coaches could win it all, with Jerry's amazing personnel choices, why the fuck doesn't Jerry just step in for one season and coach the fucking team? Because... that would eliminate his secret genius preservation mechanism. A lack of actual accountability for the teams performance UNLESS it's the obvious genius of picking a team any of 500 coaches can win with! Jerry owning the Cowboys, is the one light that takes the bitterness away from my painful Oiler saga... Edited January 22Jan 22 by horn4life

Your post actually brought a smile to this old Oiler face!

Sure but there's a massive difference in the rope Jerry is given in this town and what Stephen will be granted. Jerry built this all back up from an utter trash heap in 1988. There is a direct tie to the 3 Super Bowls with Jerry and the brand he helped build. Stephen won't get a honeymoon from the fans and media if he continues the abject mediocrity that his father has firmly entrenched in this franchise.

Am too young to remember the Oilers and won't root for the Texans. They've always been such a Houston centric team, that if you have no ties to the town, you can't connect as a Texan from elsewhere. I guess they similarly haven't reached a conference championship in the last 30 years. Unfortunately stuck with the Cowboys, warts and all. I had a buddy who was a die hard Chiefs fan growing up, his whole room was decked out in red and yellow. We used to tease him as this was the 90s in Austin TX, how could you not root for the cowboys? He's the one laughing now.

It would take multiple losing seasons. Texas Stadium was still full back in the Campo years.

Team sucks under son. Dallas won't give free money to Cowboys for whatever the next ask is. Then you find out there is an agreement for a new Dell Stadium in Round Rock, and the logos for The Texas Cowboys start circulating... Made me smile all over again! Anyhow misery loves company I think we all can agree.

Jerry owning the Cowboys, is the one light that takes the bitterness away from my painful Oiler saga... I'm a former Luv Ya Blue Oilers fan who moved to SA in 1979. Was until the team moved to Tennessee and then they were dead to me. No ties to Houston so didn't GAF about the Texans. Moved to Dallas in 1998. I've been a passive fan of the Cowboys since Parcells and then Romo. I don't get too worked up by the team. Jerry entertains me, yes, but the only hope this franchise has is that he'll die and Stephen doesn't suffer from the same megalomania that his dad does. If he does, we're turbo-fucked because he's not as smart as his dad in many ways. 30 minutes ago, mdmost said: I think you're already seeing that but it's more selling their seats to the visiting fans. But everybody will be bought back in for Week 1 next year. We'll just see how soon the wheels fall off assuming they do nothing to improve the team in the offseason. Again.

If Jerry is paying attention, he'd notice that the Cowboys have had fewer and fewer SNF and MNF appearances in recent years along with more noon games instead of "America's Game of the Week" on Sundays. I assume NFL media payouts don't vary by tv ratings per game but any normal person would realize that interest in "America's Team" is waning even from the haters.

I can't speak for this year, b/c I didn't go to any games. But in the past few years, teams w/ a large following who play the Cowboys in Dallas, have almost as big a fan presence as Cowboy fans. So the selling of season tickets has been going on a while. One of my best friends has had 2 season tickets since the early 90s. I ususally go to 2/3 home games a year w/ him. This year he didn't attend one game. He gave a couple of early games away to customers and sold the last 5 online.

He goes after guys that no other team wants for anything because he can low ball them and they'll take him undercutting them at every turn. It's not a serious football team. It's basically a mirror of what's happening in the country. Nothing's serious with these people. Just grift It's not that he's cheap. As has been said numerous times, he wants to win but he wants ALL the credit. He'd rather drive this fucker into the ground than give anyone else an ounce of credit.
January 22Jan 22 Well, it's not that he's just cheap. He is cheap as he wants to underpay any head coach for his team. But he also is cheap and wants all the credit.
January 22Jan 22 And his son is even fucking worse. Ya'll remember that even I was fucking done with them after last offseason...18 mil TOTAL spent in FA and they had quite a bit of Cap Space left over. They just are fucking cheap. From Coaches to players. they don't want to pay and then it causes them to end up paying a third more than they would have if they had just done deals earlier, and then they can run to the media and cry about "not be able to afford to pay cause you see how much we had to pay this player?!?" yeah no shit...you waited 2 years to late to sign Lamb, and Dak, and even Diggs. You'll wait to pay Micah too and while it will NOT destroy the cap like the front office claims, they'll pretend it does, and have their little media cronies work up the stupid parts of this fan base that are gullible enough to be believe that "paying this player means we have no cap" which is fucking bullshit, and always has been. There's ALWAYS work arounds in the cap. Even after the Lamb/Dak signings they STILL Had a double digit amount of cap space to bring any ANYONE who could help this teams and refused to.

January 22Jan 22 Glenn to the Jets. Jerry's personality has literally placed the team below NYJ and the Bears in attractiveness to rising head coaches. Next will be CLE. It's gonna be Shotty. Even Moore is probably too smart to work for that asshole.

January 22Jan 22 Jerry has been a bad owner for a while but at least he used to be a fun bad owner making splash moves. Now his coaching hires are boring retreads or in-house names, his drafts are a bunch of linemen and defenders, he's quiet in free agency...snoooooze

January 23Jan 23 Nobody wants McCarthy. Except maybe Jerry? I would rather have him back and replace Schottenheimer than hire Schottenheimer as HC. But maybe he wouldn't be as shitty an HC as OC.
January 23Jan 23 I legit did not know we had an OC much less a Schottenheimer. I thought Mike called all the plays. Sounds like a perfect HC hire for Jerry. Probably sees the last name and pops a floppy old viagra semi. Edited January 23Jan 23 by 'stache
January 23Jan 23 I have zero expectations for this coaching hire. Less than zero, in fact. My interest in the Cowboys is at an all time low point in my entire life thus far. Yet somehow, against all odds, Jerry has achieved the impossible and still managed to underwhelm me with this Schottenheimer business. It simply can't possibly be real. My brain cannot comprehend it. The only thing that makes any goddamn sense whatsoever is that it's a smokescreen for hiring Kellen Moore.

January 23Jan 23 Different franchise but same idea. I cannot figure out any plausible way to feel any emotional attachment to some random new franchise. I’m just doomed to this fucking nonsense.
