Dallas Cowboys 2024 Season Thread -- Jerrah the Asshat Rides Again

The first three Cowboys picks aren't terrible, but they look like a haul for a team picking at 25 rather than 12.

The Brian Schottenheimer hire is the Jonathan Mingo of trades, the Taco Charlton of draft picks, the Terence Steele of contract extensions, the blinding 3pm glare of stadium designs.

Running backs coming off the board like free samples at Costco.

yep.  RB round now is 4th unless you are a Jeanty/Bijan type.  to- bad we don't have a 4th.  could probably pick up a decent RB.

#8004

Unless another 10 backs go off the board there will be one there in the 5th still. Maybe 2.

and they’ll probably pass on him for a DT or tackle. Ugh

Not a bad round for a DT or right tackle, but still a crapshoot.

Yeah, there will be a RB in the 5th, but it's not gonna be the guy you wanted in the 4th that was more talented and a much better fit.

#8006

Maybe they don't need a 1000 yard RB because they have so many receiving weapons. Uh...

#8008

Waiting out the fourth round with no pick is a fuckin' beatdown. Compensatory picks added another 10 slots, and you're seeing some good quality fly off the shelf dirt cheap.

I'll go ahead and curse it, but Ollie Gordon at some point later could be intradesting. Seems like a type they could use.

I think the guys in the 5th we can take I’ll be an upgrade too.

True, but guys in the 7th would probably be an upgrade over what they have now as well. Not a great situation for a team allegedly dedicated to running the football.

This draft just shows how valuable 4th round draft picks can be for a team, and Dallas has been throwing them away. Ugh.

That's the desk I've been pounding for months. Even tossing out some of the extra later picks for backup roster fodder screwed their ability to move up and get another four.

Ugh browns have Judkins and Sampson from this draft. Either guy would be amazing here.

That’s what happens when you trade away 4th round picks for practice fodder.

#8014

Draft is fine. That’s not the problem with this franchise, nor is Dak for that matter, but it’s not worth it anymore to argue, I’m just following along hoping to be surprised some year.

To beat a dead horse even further, they got Dak Prescott in the fourth round. Not only can you find starter in the fourth round, you can find future all pros. Why the fuck waste a fourth round pick on an average WR, or a QB who proved to an other NFL team that he wasn’t worthy of being a legit QB on the nfl. So stupid.

Not drafted by Dallas, but 5th round pick who ended up enshrined in Canton.

And with a year or two of his rookie contract  already burned.

I wanted blue. But much better if they pick another bigger bruiser with him.

could still add a guy like Martinez/Brooks or the kid from Rutgers or even Ollie Gordon.

Smith from SMU was the only other big play threat left

#8022

Cowboys up...

Jayden Blue? OK, but seems like a fair reach. Bond would have been a better value pick, good upside. Not crazy about the pick, but Blue does have some potential if they can catch lightning in a bottle.

They still need to draft another running back and have some competition.

Next pick about 24 spots ahead if they don't make a move. See y'all after lunch...maybe.

Bond is completely off draft boards.  This is far from a reach. A middle 5th round for blue?  Some had him as a 3/4.

#8026

Cowboys might be moving up for another guy…hmm.

Just now, DougO said:

Gordon or Taj Brooks as a late round flyer sound pretty good.

Exactly. Gordon would have been a top 3 round pick last year.

I like both of them a lot.

#8030

Cowboys must have a veteran receiver lined up, either FA or trade. Or they just give zero fucks for WR.

3 things can happen when you pass, 2 of them are bad...

#8033

So Dallas apparently gave a 5 and a 6 to move up in the 5th. I don't like the value there. I don't see any 2025 later picks swapped back in return.

#8034

Really wasted a lot of potential in this draft all the way around, minimizing return for a team picking 12th in the order.

There are good players here, but they totally fail to address needs and maximize their draft potential. Anything beyond this point in the draft is a crapshoot.

#8036

Should have drafted Ewers or another QB.  The trade for a horrible QB to back up injury prone Dak was ridiculous.

If Dallas gets Allen or Martinez here at 204 and then another IDL in the 7th who can maybe soak up blockers in a year or two, then it's been a highly productive draft.  Are there still holes on the team?  Sure, but there was always going to be because the Cowboys lack depth and have for years.  But all of the picks (maybe outside of the 1st) made sense, were value plays, and look like good players with great attitudes.

Finish it off and Jerrah will declare they won the offseson.....

Yeah I’d they stumble their way into Martinez this late they’ll have done a good job at the draft.

hut yes they got holes glaringly at WR which I’m hoping they have a move there lined up.

I'd also be up to take Bond as a dart throw in the 7th,.  If he gets over his legal issues, then you have a speed threat in the vein of a poor man's Cooks, with maybe some more PR potential.  Fuck it, at this stage, draft Ewers in the 7th too..... He has backup potential.  Fuck it.  Put him on the PS.

#8042

They’re going OT here I think.

so no DT or RB here.

and yeah I’d take a flyer on Quinn and Bond.

They think OT.  More than kind of player

#8045

Got a big nose tackle. Seems line people are high on him.

They’ve nailed these picks as far as guys who might actually help.

but their biggest need wasn’t addressed.

Okay, there's the IDL, run stopper I was talking about.  Now, let's take a stab at one more weapon.  Bond or a RB?

Not bad for a 7th rounder.  We need another TE with Stephens blowing out his ACL again.

Martinez and the Rutgers RB still here.

If you had told me you got Martinez and blue in the 5th I’d have been ecstatic

I'd take Jake Majors actually...... He's the type of dude who is 3 years could be a starter at Center.  I know we get Beebe, but shit changes.  But Bond or the Cuse kid is legit.  He can really catch the ball.

TE from Iowa, Lachey, can play too..... He'd be a good pick with the last 2.
