Dallas Cowboys 2024 Season Thread -- Jerrah the Asshat Rides Again

Featured Replies

-Rush is about the same as Dak as a passer.

-I can’t stand Dak, but I was happy to see him actually run the ball as if he cared and wanted to earn his money

-Both Cook and uncle Rico are pretty good change of pace backs. Neither are starters.

-Turpin tackled himself at least 3 times. Each on plays where he might have scored. But he is expecting contact and stumbles or steps out. He could have changed the game, but he didn’t.

-Overshown is exciting

-Guyton is an idiot.

-The team is undisciplined and I am absolutely shocked.

-The middle of the defense is generally garbage. There are individual efforts, etc. but for the most part they get pushed backwards.

Summary: this is going about as expected.

The Brian Schottenheimer hire is the Jonathan Mingo of trades, the Taco Charlton of draft picks, the Terence Steele of contract extensions, the blinding 3pm glare of stadium designs.

Me to my 84 y/o Mom:  oh, the Cowboys lost

Her:  Again?

Here's the thing with Dak.  He's paid like a top 3 QB to make top 3 QB plays consistently even when pressured.  Everyone says if you can just keep Dak clean he's great.  yes he is along with 20 other QB's in the NFL that cost less.

If Dak now needs an OL and Coach that Brady had he's not worth it...at all.

The fact that a spare like Turpin is the second best WR on the team speaks volumes about how horribly the Cowboys have stocked the position. Tolbert is terribly disappointing. Dak seems to be allergic to him. He should be getting 8 targets per game by now, even without a lost cause game script. especially with the shitty running game.

Why do I get the feeling Jerrah is impotent. Signing Dak for a premium was to show the world how big his balls were, when in reality, if he truly had big balls, he woulda told Dak's agent to take a hike and start rebuilding. Maybe get a guru like Jonah Hill in here for some advice. He could have started a thread on Surly under a gay name asking for advice on running the team - and curing impotence. Hindsight is 20/20.

I don’t think Jerrah feels like he has time for a rebuild. He’ll leave that for when Stephen’s watch begins. The Jones 2 era.

Jerry's not rolling the dice on a 1st round QB and risk Dak going somewhere and being decent.

Hindsight has nothing to do with assessing Jerrah.

The movie Titanic had a more surprising ending than this Cowboys shitshow.

When he didn’t shitcan Fathead Mike and insisted he was resigning Dak last January, I tapped out as a fan.  This season has been a payoff in spades.  Zero surprises.

A couple?  Do you know how many players $60m can get you?  Derek Henry would have been the most expensive at $8m.  Probably could have brought in a dozen players for what they are paying Dak.

Look, they could afford Derrick Henry this year.  Jerrah's got you snowed.  The front office not signing Henry had nothing to do with the extension of the WR or the QB.... In fact, it actually freed up money for this year and next.  If you don't understand the economics of football, it's hard to understand team building.  Henry's great.... on a winning team.  He makes a good team a step better, but see Saquan.  A good RB can't save a team from itself.  Who else would you have signed, and how would that effected this year's cap?  Remember, if you don't sign Dak, he's counting about 50m vs this year's cap, so you actually have less money to spend this year.  Or did you not understand this?

If you just want to say, Dak isn't playing up to his contract and we should have sucked to get in position to draft a franchise guy, then cool, there's probably a pretty good argument.

Well, and the fact that this year's QB draft is fucking terrible.....

This is what did it for you huh? It wasn’t the nearly 30 years of nothing but terrible decisions starting with hiring Barry Switzer?

Jerrah eating a quarter billion on the trade and Dak going to a competent team and GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL would be awesome.

@Drew would be intolerable.

He coulda said, "We'll fuck and suck." Maybe they were making plans for after the game. Or just an old fashioned proposition. Like when you meet a woman at a bar and she wants a guarantee that your not going to your place just to brew some coffee.

Hated the Switzer hire.  Thought it was lazy and Jerry trying to prove a point.  Well he proved one beyond the shadow of any argument; but not in the way he had hoped.
Still had certain players I liked through the years, but yeah, those 2 things in January were the last straw for me.  Jerrah has delivered in every way I thought he would in this campaign.

Jerry the businessman should have fired Jerrah the GM 30 years ago and let the football people do the footballin.  It'll take death to make that happen.

Same. I just learned the score of the game 10 minutes ago when I used to give a shit. Went to the lease today and listened to music getting ready for duck season and filling deer feeders.

That was the turning point for me. When he fired Jimmy and then hired Barry, I was done with JJ. It took another 10 years or so before I really started to hate him and what he had done to that organization.  I’ve been apathetic about them for the better part of 20 years now and have actually begun to hate them because of JJ.

This right here. The Cowboys (and Longhorns) were my life as a kid growing up in Dallas in the 70s.

Wait, you’re going to replace Jimmy Johnson with Barry fucking Switzer? Off his couch? Obviously we knew for sure who we were dealing with then, but I kind of mentally stuck around a few years to see what would happen. But I’ve been completely out for around 25 years I guess. Nothing about that team or organization has shown an ounce of character or heart or substance or integrity or even relevancy in that time. I haven’t missed out on Jack shit.

I don’t hate them, though. I just shake my head and laugh. Can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would waste emotion on that clown show of an organization.

If I am Micah, there is no way I play another down for this organization. He needs to force his way out. He’s pretty much the only mostly likable player on the team.

Turd is also gone after next year.

Best GM in the league.

Nope.  I stopped being an avid Cowboy fan years ago, and Jerrah signing Dak to an extension this summer was the final straw.  Making a mediocre QB, with 2 playoff wins in 8 years, the highest paid player in the league (for the 2nd time), while he still has a year left on his current contract, is about as dumb as it gets.  Make him play for a new contract.  Worst case scenario, he holds out and you play Cooper, then either get a FA or draft a QB.

If I'm a GM, I'd rather roll the dice and pay rookie money to Cam Ward or Dillon Gabriel than $60m a year to Dak.

But, whatever, I'm officially out as a Cowboy fan until the Jones family is gone.  The only reason I watched the game today was to see Bijan and Overshown.

franchise tag could keep him here through 2027 without a new contract.  unlikely but it's in jerry's arsenal.

Agree to disagree.

The game has changed and the hit rate on QBs is much higher than it used to be.

This is already the worst possible timeline.

Meh. Micah is a stat-padding no show come playoff time or against a team with a pulse. He's Dak-esque. Plus he went to Pedo State. Fuck that.

My thoughts and prayers are for Overshown. He has like three years left.

He's having a pretty good season and deserves a better team.

A friend smoked a pork butt yesterday and had about 10-12 people over.  All of us lifelong Cowboy fans in our 50s.

As the Cowboys started to lose again, there was complete apathy interrupted only by laughter at the Cowboys.

only two after this one.

or wait, do the cowboys get to keep him an extra year because he was injured last season?

Jerruh makes most of his money on Cowboy merch! Don't buy or ask for any Cowboy merch for Christmas.

He'll probably spend half of that time on IR getting paid, so don't feel too sorry.
