Georgia defense ran a quick and physical sagging zone.  Really fucked our heads in the first half, along with shots not going in.

Some defensive miscues in the 2nd Q - Oldacre was slow on the hedge and Georgia backdoored the freshmen.  Vic cleaned all that up at halftime.

I would not at all be surprised to see some new coaches in the SEC next year

Arkansas - Mike Neighbors
147-110
2 tournament bids in 8 seasons
2-12 in the SEC this year

Georgia - Katie Abrahamson-Henderson
44-48
1  NCAA tournament bid (when she brought a bunch of her UCF players with her in year 1)
3-13 in the SEC last year, 2-12 so far this year

aggy - Joni Taylor
38-49
1 NCAA bid in 3 seasons
3-11 in the SEC this year, 6-10 and 2-14 the years prior

Florida - Kelly Rae Finley
70-56
1 NCAA tournament in year 1
5-11, 5-11, 5-9 (so far) in the SEC

Auburn - Johnnie Harris
58-60
1 NCAA tournament last year (First Four)
2-14, 5-11, 8-8 and 3-11 so far

AC plays her state semi final game in Abilene today. With last night’s game in Georgia and Thursdays game in Starkville, I doubt Vic will attend

Yeah no chance. Maybe he sends Blair or something, but they were there last week for the regional final. Today is technically an off day though

No, but her 63 year old stalker isn't going to let her forget him.

Good assessment. Their defense until the last quarter was impressive, but I thought they got away grabbing Jones' arm all game.

I read Coach Abe’s husband is/was a ref at one point. I’m quite sure her physical style of play is impacted by knowing what players can get away with, using her husband’s input. Not many fouls or FTs in the game yesterday.

They aren't

Monterey vs. Frisco Memorial, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hardin-Simmons University

The game will be played tonight at Hardin Simmons, which is in Abilene

I don't pretend to be fully in the know of where Hardin Simmons is.  Or what that is.

Also after watching last night, if Mia Woolfolk wanted to transfer to a winning program with a coach who can develop bigs, but she can still be physical... And she's only a freshman...

Ahh, looks like they are only playing the State Finals in San Antonio instead of Semis and Finals due to the D1/D2 format.

Lame.

How are you supposed to double the numbers of games played and still play at one site? Have 7am tipoffs?

Doesn't even list Vic's return to Starkville.  WCBB fans gonna eat on Thursday, after we got fed on Sunday

Also my understanding that Texas, South Carolina and LSU have all clinched the double bye in the SEC tournament

South Carolina 13-1 (@ Ole Miss, host Kentucky) - can finish at worse 13-3
Texas 13-1 (@ MSST, host Florida) - can finish at worse 13-3
LSU 12-2 (@ Alabama, host Ole Miss) - can finish at worse 12-4, but hold the H2H with Kentucky if both finish 12-4

That final spot is up for grabs:

Kentucky 10-4 (host Tenn, @ South Carolina)
Alabama 9-5 (host LSU, @ OU)
OU 9-5 (host Florida, host Bama)
Ole Miss 9-5 (host South Carolina, @ LSU)

Kentucky has the H2H over OU if they finish 11-5

For Texas -

Win out, South Carolina drops one, #1 seed, likely face #4 Kentucky in the semifinals
Win out, split the SEC regular season with South Carolina, coin flip - win the flip, #1 seed, likely face #4 Kentucky in the semifinals; lose the flip, #2 seed, likely face LSU in the semifinals

Reminder that that’s the top of the conference and Texas has played, and beaten, all of them.

They've beaten one ranked team at home - I'm certainly not too concerned with them scoring 81 on us

Lost by almost 30 to South Carolina and 20 to Bama and beat OU by 4.  The 3 ranked teams they've played at home.  I would expect this one to look similar to their game against Ole Miss, really.

Massey - 80% (74-63)
Warren Nolan - 79-60
ESPN - 89.2%

So, Northwestern didn’t travel to USC and UCLA because of the wildfires and now the Big 10 says “sorry bro, we are considering those forfeits now.”

WTF

I assume this was solely for Big 10 tournament seeding. Only the top 15 make it - Purdue beat Northwestern, but Northwestern was projected "in" at 2-13 and Purdue was "out" at 2-14.  Now this flips Northwestern to 2-15 and Purdue is now above Northwestern and should make the Big 10 tournament.

Northwestern accepted the forfeits without a fight.

It's best if A-Mo just looks elsewhere even if she wants to play another year. She can't stay healthy and doesn't have the mobility to play for a team like Texas anymore.

You hate to say stuff like this, but we should probably be nudging her out the door. That scholarship could be used for a player that can actually stay healthy and contribute.

All the same I’d like them to go ahead and surpass 20 first half points.

I thought we were going to need a 4 in the portal but I don't think we do as long as Vic thinks Carlton is developing.

Jak/Booker as the small 4 and then Carlton as the bigger 4. I actually think the turning point of the season might have been A-Mo's injury because it's forced us to go more athletic at the 4 with Jak and Booker.

We have drastically improved in the half-court defensively because we can now hedge/switch everything with Jak. I don't think people realize how good she is.

She does a lot of things very well and then makes a completely boneheaded move which colors our perception of her.

W/O her this year we would have been borked.

AUSTIN — When Texas coach Vic Schaefer’s daughter graduated from Mississippi State with a biological science degree, a 3.60 grade-point average and a prominent role in the Bulldogs’ women’s basketball history, he couldn’t have been prouder.

Yes, Blair Schaefer was an integral part of his MSU teams that made two Final Four runs and knocked off UConn as a hard-nosed, defensive-minded, 3-point-shooting point guard. But he was equally beaming over her career plans.

She wanted nothing to do with coaching.

“So I’m thinking, OK, I got a dentist or a doctor or maybe a veterinarian on my hands," Schaefer said this week. “Oh heck no. She had to get a minor in communication. And so all of a sudden she wants to go into TV.”

And that she did.The one-time MVP of an NCAA regional tournament, who was once chosen for a spot on the SEC All-Defensive team and sank 175 triples as the fifth-most in school history, wanted to stay in front of the camera.

She got a job at the affiliate there in Columbus, Miss., at WCBI. She also worked for the SEC Network, covering basketball games as a color analyst.

“At the end of the day, you got to let them go,” Vic recalled, talking about Blair and her twin brother Logan. “You got to let them do what they want to do. And about February, she calls me one day, crying. I’m like, ‘Good God, now what’s happened?”

“I think I figured it out,” daughter told dad.

“What have you figured out?” Vic said.

“I think I want to coach,” Blair said.

Longtime lurker and first time posting here.  Used to post on Shaggy - not sure I’ve ever posted on Surly, anyway…

I am by no means jumping on the wagon as I follow all UT sports, but seeing as how I haven’t been fully engaged all season for the ladies it wasn’t until a few days ago I realized we were down A-Mo, then after wondering how Phelia was doing I noticed she wasn’t in the box scores for several games, etc. then came to realize what happened to her.
Injuries stink but are a part of the game, just frustrating how many times it happens when you have a natty worthy team.  Here’s what I am wondering - obviously I’ve witnessed how good we can be as I have been watching recently the stretch of several ranked wins, etc.  Is a spade a spade and does their absence hurt us and our chances moving forward or is it possible that it has revealed some great things with younger players as they have been forced into larger roles?  Again, I haven’t watched enough or learned enough about the newer contributing players to discern this.  Can someone kind of take me through that?

We lose A-Mo's leadership, but she is limited in both size and mobility.  It's allowing us to play a 4 guard lineup, either with Booker at the 4 or Jak playing the 4.  Jak does a lot of the little things well - she rebounds well, especially offensively, she assists and she has capability to hit the mid-range jumper.  When she reigns in her tendency to think she's Kobe offensively, she adds a lot and can guard all over the court.

With Phelia, we lost a big potential scoring punch, but we never got to see exactly what that entailed with she also played Vic's defense.  Lee has really stepped up admirably as a freshman in that role, behind Holle - she does have the capability to hit the 3, she plays defense well for a freshman and she has a good midrange game as well.

We got kind of lucky the injuries were to Moore and Phelia, because we have flexibility with the PF position and we have depth at the guard position.  We've seen multiple 4 guard lineups of Harmon/Holle/Lee/Booker or Harmon/Preston/Holle/Booker or Harmon/Preston/Lee/Booker.  That last lineup especially has 4 ball handlers and has closed out a few big games for us.

Some lines for tonight

Texas - 14.5 over MSST (Texas on the road)
UConn -23.5 over #22 Creighton (UConn at home)
Duke -5.5 over #8 UNC (Duke at home)
Tenn -3.5 over #15 Kentucky (Tenn on the road)
ND -16.5 over #24 FSU (ND at home)
SoCar -10.5 over Ole Miss (SoCar on the road)
LSU -1.5 over #20 Alabama (LSU on the road)

Texas is going to have its hands full with Miss St's inside game - they have their own twin towers

6'6 JR Okot (avg 11.4 ppg on 66.1%, but if you foul her, she only hits 57% from the line)
6'5 SO Montague (avg 4.9 ppg on 54% and only 57% from the line)

Rori will need to shut down 5'10 GR Jordan (16.1 ppg)
Holle will probably be on 6'0 GR Russell (11.8 ppg)
Jak will likely guard 6'1 JR Powe (9.2 ppg, but leads the team shooting 42% BTA)

Neither of those 2 guards shoots it from deep very well (27% and 31%, respectively).

Texas is the #2 overall seed in the final reveal

SoCar is #5 👀

Spokane 1: UCLA/LSU/UNC/KSU

Birmingham 2: Texas/NCST/TCU/Ohio State

Spokane 3: USC/UConn/Duke/UK

Birmingham 4: ND/SoCar/Tenn/OU
