And I’ll say this - Spurs fans totally get this season was a disaster. The heart of this season the team had a starting line up of injuries. WE DID NOT CRY ABOUT THAT. And yeah we finished 1

Arteta has won 53% of his league games this season. That’s normally 3rd or 4th place pace.

They’ve won 2 of their last 7 games and are 13 points behind 1st place. Manager of the year material in my opinion.

I know tons of Arsenal fans and 0% of them want Arteta gone.  The only people who want him gone are twitter trolls and click bait merchants.  I do listen to some AFTV, pretty much just Forever Arsenal (which Turkish is on and he doesn’t want Arteta fired, he just wants the club to spend money on attackers) and some of James B tactical stuff.   Charles Watts is by far the best YouTube channel for Arsenal.

I think the mood has turned quite a bit after PSV and RM results. Post Kookaburra Cup loss to Newcastle was pretty negative on Arteta. Agreed, that the main talking point is anger at not signing attackers in January. And coming into the season shorthanded in attack to begin with.

yeah and those guys are the dumbest fucking assholes on the planet.

at this point all i can do is wish all of arsenal’s injuries on liverpool for next season, and when y’all finish 10th, then we can talk.

it’s telling that the arsenal fans are openly impressed with the job that slot has done, while the liverpool fans are unimpressed with what arteta has done with a bunch of teenagers, fourth stringers, and guys aged 29 playing positions they’ve never played before. homerism and a lack of objectivity on display.

Do you even watch soccer?

We finished 3rd in 2021 with these 2 guys starting at centerback our last 10 games (which we won 9). Arteta finished 8th that season.

I hate Newcastle’s owners but Eddie Howe is in my top 3 managers for the year. Cup win and likely CL qualifiers.

eddie howe is where he needs to be. i hope he doesn’t go looking for a “better” job anytime soon. he could be very successful at newcastle for a long time if he decides he wants to set up shop and not aspire to something better.

They have a very athletic team. That midfield is tough as nails. I don’t see any team being able to afford Isak which gives them a very formidable front line the next couple seasons. Good young talent on the backline with Botman coming back from injury. They need a goalie and a starting CB and could be a dark horse to win the league next season (if Isak stays fit).

this, big time. they’re an imposing matchup physically/athletically. they’ve obviously recruited to a certain style of player, and if they can spend their Isak money wisely (a la liverpool with coutinho) then they could be set up to succeed for years to come. i’d like to see that club be competitive for top 4-6 every year again.

I don’t think there is any Isak money because they aren’t selling him for less than £125mn (he has 3 years left on his contract). Under PSR no team can afford that.

this happened the year before i became an arsenal fan, but when i was already a big time cote d’ivorie fan. i loved it. rip cheick tioté. 🙏🏼

i’d love to see him stay there, i’m just cynical about players of his talent staying at a club like newcastle. he’s exactly what arsenal needs, but that’s a total pipe dream. i hope he stays there, i just don’t see it.

They seem well on there way to CL; so I think he’ll stay. Winning the Carabao and seeing the crazy fan support had to help boatloads as well. Never heard him wanting out (like we did with Suarez at Liverpool).

that parade/celebration they had was awesome. i couldn’t believe it had been 70-something years since they had won a major trophy. you could see what it means to the community. i always like it better when newcastle is good.

Not a lot of drama this year.

By April, we knew the winner and the 3 teams relegated.

true. only thing left is the race for europe. villa, newscastle, and forest fighting off traditional powers in city and chelsea. liverpool, arsenal, ipswich, leicester, and Southampton are all set.

personally, i'll be watching because while i don't have any particular dislike for spurs or united, it would be pretty cool for everton to top them in the table.

Yeah, AFTV are clowns raging for clicks/views; they’re no more indicative of the Arsenal fanbase than the Cloak Room is of the UT fanbase.

There’s also a disappointment of “damn, 115 FC couldn’t have slipped up the past two years?!” The year they finally do we weren’t able to capitalize. Yes, we’ve had too many draws, but no one who isn’t solely out for clicks seriously wants Arteta out. Add some key pieces in the summer, hope for better injury luck, and go again next year.

Hat tip to you guys, though. IIRC no club has in the PL era has increased its point total four consecutive years, which is we would have to have pulled off and then some given y’all are likely to finish ~ 94 points. Hell of a season, and Salah just keeps getting better. The way you guys attack relentlessly is something I wish we did more of.

If Spurs win the Europa league and get an auto bid to next years champions league, does that count as one of the EPLs 5 spots, or would it still be top 5 + Spurs?

Or ManU

ESPN has a breakdown. The TL;DR - if Either win Europa then it's 5+1.

What's wild is that England can in theory get up to 11 European teams (unlikely):

UCL - 1-5, Arsenal (win UCL & fall out of top 5), Spurs/ManU (Win Europa)
Europa - 6,7 + Chelsea winning Conf League
Conf League - 8

Ollie Ollie Ollie!

30 seconds in... 1-nil to the Villa over Toon.

There we go! 2-1 to the Villa in the 64th

And in front of the Holte End!

tomorrow:

fulham host chelsea in another CL 6-pointer that's also a neighborhood derby; recent form is a mixed bag for both, but chelsea have pwned fulham this century at craven, 10W 5D 2L

that said fulham have been building towards a return to europe and with 6 to play need only 4 points to equal their finish on 52 at the end of the ami years in clint's last season

fulham have been down and back up 3 times since clint departed

this is fulham's biggest non-cup game since the 2-2 hosting odense on 14dec11 in their final europa group game where a win would have moved them from 3rd to 2nd in their group and they would have advanced

fulham made the fa cup QF this year and last but could not break through to the rare air of the final 4

chelsea like villa have had a rennaissance since boxing day

this game could go either way but if fulham somehow manage a win, the table looks very crowded under arsenal

monday:

dating to 1909 forest all time away to spurs: 38W 28D 59L so they are likely to get something on monday but having lost their last 2 it feels like a draw with both needing to not lose more than taking all 3

Table from Boxing Day to today.   Unless that’s the table up to Boxing Day    I thought Chelsea had been pretty bad too

I’m not trying to be an asshole but you really need to double check your work. This isn’t close to accurate. Chelsea have 2 draws and 4 defeats in their last 6 league away games.

obviously i had it backwards

i was trying to build up to the idea that fulham are going to break through this morning

United have had some bad players the last 10+ years. Hojlund is the worst.

Mason Mount- 2nd worst player.

massive match just kicked off.  Villa at City.  City in 5th at 58 points.  they hold the last Champions League spot.  Villa in 7th just one point behind at 57 points.

Rashford hit the goal post 18 seconds in.

...and Emi made a mess of that shot.  Really should've done better.  1-nil to Citeh in the 7th.

Well that just sucks ass.

Pretty much the winner for Citeh in the 94th.  Furk.
