Supposed to be Star Wars Goonies/Stranger Things.

I think that’s the same trailer music (or meant to mimic it) that played in the trailer for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.

I'm really uncomfortable with the notion of California suburbia in the Star Wars universe.

The creators are definitely fans of ET and Captain EO. The neighborhood looks just like the ET one. The creatures are straight out of Captain EO which was a short film starring Michael Jackson that played at Epcot in the mid 80s.

When I saw that street, ET and Poltergeist immediately came to mind.

It feels so out of place. That's just not how the Galaxy looks; their urban development patterns aren't like that. In SW, everyone lives in dense cities or hardscrabble villages where people are barely scraping by.

I'd never heard of Captain EO, so thanks for the additional information.

There’s going to be so much complaining from 50-something men that Disney doesn’t care about them.

Star Wars Goonies. Very hard to mess up. I think it’ll be a hit.

Probably need a Mando level hit to keep Star Wars TV going. Need a Stranger Things type hit for them to really invest in it.

Is that young Max Rebo? I’d totally watch an origin of how he got into music and started the Jabba’s Palace Band.

No, not every Ortolan is Max Rebo, you fucking racist.

We need to get on social media and start saying that Earth is one of the planets featured on star maps in the background f various scenes.

He didn’t mention that it was one of the 80s 3D movies, so little things flying at you while you wore red and blue glasses.

Yeah, I had to look it up when he mentioned it. With both parents as public school teachers, my family wasn't ever wealthy enough to go to Disneyworld. Six Flags in Arlington was the best we could do. And, besides, it turns out Captain EO didn't happen until 1986, and I was already 15 and likely just above the targeted age demographic, so it wouldn't have appealed to me by then anyway. Sincere thanks for the additional info, regardless. More context is good.

You're welcome, it's terrible but it was the 80s and Michael Jackson was larger than life.

Fucking Memories man...think I saw it twice when we went to disney as kids(my family did the save up for 2 years to go think in the early 90's)

Yes it's dated now and sucks as an adult...but as a kid, when MJ was in his prime it fucking rocked.

Looking forward to this...also Bryce Dallas is always directing these things now.

Really cute and fun first episode, haven't seen the second one yet. It oozes 80s coming of age vibes. Great Easter eggs here and there

Oh yeah I liked it.

Initial thoughts:

- Looks and feels like Star Wars. Finally. It looks terrific. Better than The Mandalorian in my opinion.

- Goonies vibes are real. A lot of cool pirate stuff going on.

- I love the mystery of their home planet. The undersecretary references the New Republic, but the pirates have no idea what their home world is. Feels like a top secret New Republic world tucked away in deep space just in case some bad shit happened in the known galaxy. It kind of reminds me of 3 Body Problem. If there’s something bigger and badder than you are out there, the best thing for survival is to hide and not leave your solar system/explore.

I liked it, the main kid was slightly annoying.

Spoiler

what was up with guy at the end using the force?  former Jedi or just force sensitive or something else going on? I need to watch it again sober

This was probably my favorite thing they introduced.  What the fuck is so special about At Attin and why is a myth? The whole barrier thing has to be something, but they didn't  show the planet when they got into space.

Curious....

Also they mentioned Aldhani!

Had no idea the lead singer(Tunde Adibempe) of TV on the Radio was an actor. He plays the main kid’s dad in this.

Colin Farrell’s sister from Banshees of Inisheran is too. I love her.

Yeah, first saw Tunde in Rachel Getting Married with Anne Hathaway 2008.  He's usually great.

I enjoyed it after being traumatized by the shit that was the acolyte. Straight up good vibes. Will keep watching

not really a plot spoiler but I had to lookup one of the cameos to figure out who the actor was, I just couldn't put a name to his face

Spoiler

one of the pirates is Jaleel White aka Steve Urkel

I noticed him!

Have watched first two now. I'm enjoying it.

No sorry, I don’t know many 9 year olds. I’m not Harvey Weinstein

I recently had to take my oldest to a Minecraft-themed birthday party with a bunch of 9-11 year olds, and they had the kids bring their laptops if they had them, and it was....intense.

They were every bit as into it and organized and throwing around facts and figures and slang as any guilds/raiding parties I've been involved with in various MMOs (Warcraft, Ultimaa, Final Fantasy XIV, etc.).

I'm not sure what this upcoming generation is going to be like, but the Minecrafters are going to be an interesting bunch (already are based on my older cousins and nephews).
