When he showed up in San Marcos, I was less than impressed and wondered how this guy was even in coaching. Dude has moved up a level in school or coaching rank at most every stop and did pretty well as a DC his last 2 stops. 2014 - Elko was the DC at Wake Forest, and that's the key to most of his movement. Mind you, he wasn't a position coach here, just an assistant/GA. 2016 - Withers is hired at TXST, and that staff was random af - you could tell he was pulling in guys from anywhere. Santucci is done w/ GA, ready for a full time gig. 2017 - Elko gets the DC job at ND, takes Santucci w/ him as an analyst because he's not ready to be a position coach at that level. 2018 - Elko gets the DC job at aTm, takes Santucci w/ him as an analyst because he's not ready to be a position coach at that level. 2019 - Lyle Hemphill gets the DC job at Wake. Hemphill was the DC at Stonybrook in 2012-13, where Santucci was coaching S and DL under him. 2020 - Elko hires him as LB coach at aTm, gets promoted to Co-DC when Elko goes to Duke 2023 - Elko hires him as DC at Duke, and he actually does a pretty good job - 2ppg and 26 fewer yards per game than 2022 2024 - Pretty sure this is the 1st job he got w/o a relationship, and again, does a pretty good job - 4ppg and 95 fewer yards per game than 2023

Tyler has always been nice to me but, I have no idea how he is as a coach. I’m not saying we are good friends or anything but, I’ve never really heard a lot of people talking shit on him. I reckon he can’t be all bad.
February 6Feb 6 I’d like to see Sark kick the tires on a former Kent State defensive back who went on to have a little coaching success. I hear he might be getting bored renting rooms out to weary travelers

February 11Feb 11 Dabo Swinney reportedly adding head coaching veteran Mike Houston to staff Doug Samuels 4 hours ago Mike Houston had turned around programs a few programs before leading James Madison to the FCS national title in 2016. However, in his sixth season at East Carolina, he was let go back in October after a 3-4 start. He had led the Pirates to 7-5 and 8-5 seasons in 2021 and 2022, but ECU dropped to 2-10 in 2023 and the slow start to this past fall left decision makers wanting to go in a new direction. Now he's set to land at Clemson, where Dabo Swinney continues to assemble an impressive array of talent to his support staff. ESPN shares that Houston is joining the staff to work on the defensive side of the ball. Before head coaching stops at Lenoir-Rhyne (D-II -NC), The Citadel (FCS) and then James Madison and ECU, Houston spent a few seasons calling the defense at Lenoir-Rhyne before ascending to the head coaching job and also spent a season as a Division III defensive play caller at Brevard (D-III - NC). His opportunity at the college level came after a decade of high school experience, first as the defensive coordinator at Forbush HS (NC) and then TC Roberson (NC) before becoming the head coach at TC Roberson from 2001-05. He joins a support staff at Clemson, where Dabo has recently added an NFL veteran talent evaluator in Kevin Kelly from the Chargers.

March 9Mar 9 Quote Tennessee State head football coach Eddie George has emerged as a target in Bowling Green's head coaching search, sources told ESPN. A final decision is expected in the near future, as he was one of three finalists interviewed Friday. George is a former Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State and has emerged as a successful head coach in the FCS at Tennessee State. He led the program to the FCS playoffs this past season and a share of the OVC-Big South title, the school's first league title in football since 1999. Bowling Green is looking to replace Scot Loeffler, who left to become the quarterback coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/44168307/bowling-green-hire-eddie-george-next-coach
March 25Mar 25 He gone. Quote Stanford fired football coach Troy Taylor, the school announced Tuesday. The decision comes a week after ESPN reported that two outside firms had found Taylor bullied and belittled female athletic staffers, sought to have an NCAA compliance officer removed after she warned him of rules violations and repeatedly made "inappropriate" comments to another woman about her appearance. "Since beginning my role as General Manager, I have been thoroughly assessing the entire Stanford football program. It has been clear that certain aspects of the program need change," Stanford football general manager Andrew Luck said in a statement. "Additionally, in recent days, there has been significant attention to Stanford investigations in previous years related to Coach Taylor. "After continued consideration it is evident to me that our program needs a reset. In consultation with university leadership, I no longer believe that Coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program. Coach Taylor has been informed today and the change is effective immediately." It is unclear whether the university will have to pay out the remainder of Taylor's contract. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/44402806/stanford-fires-football-coach-troy-taylor-says-gm-andrew-luck

September 14Sep 14 Who is the first to be kicked off the ride mid-season? Used to be vanishingly rare but in recent years more the norm. Early candidates: Deshaun Foster, UCLA: No wins and two losses to Mountain West teams, an apathetic fan base, and no relief on the horizon. They will be lucky to get to three wins and there is already smoke it might have happened. Brent Pry, VaTech: Losses to then 11 South Carolina and even Vandy can be bounced back from. Getting smoked by ODU? Nope. VaTech is at the very bottom of an underwhelming ACC and is there really any reason to think Pry can pull them level with even Georgia Tech, let alone FSU or Miami? Might they take a run again at Shane Beamer? Billy Napier, Florida. Seems he is done, just a question of him. A very talented team look sloppy, uninspired, unprepared. Put simply— uncoached. They have the talent to win the next three but my money is on a total meltdown against Miami and the boosters will jump in to demand an interim.
