Sources: Rebels eyeing Texas co-coordinator, with deep SEC ties

By Scott Roussel -   January 9, 2021

Sources tell FootballScoop Ole Miss is strongly considering hiring Coleman Hutzler from the University of Texas.  At Texas, Hutzler served as co-defensive coordinator (linebackers). He previously served as special teams coordinator at South Carolina for several seasons under Will Muschamp.  Hutzlers also worked with Muschamp, and notably with Ole Miss co-defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, at Florida in 2010, ’11 and ’14.

Ole Miss is losing special teams coordinator Blake Gideon to Texas, his alma mater.  If Ole Miss hires Hutzler, it would be logical for him to serve as special teams coordinator and to assist Durkin with linebackers.

As of last night no deal was in place. Will update when more is clear.

Yeh. Don’t walk. Run from that interview. Lulz.

It does depend on their GM. But still...

Here’s the convo:   Are you going to give me the same deal as Rhule?  No?  Aight bye.

Lulz and true.

Urban to Jacksonville is the best scenario for us. Don’t have to compete against him and he takes assistants presumably from Ohio State.

As long as Drayton isn't one of his assistants

Some serious optimism right there.  Or delusion

South Carolina: Shane Beamer has formally announced the hires of Marcus Satterfield (OC / QBs), Clayton White (DC), and Luke Day (S&C).

Illinois: Bret Bielema is adding former Arizona outside linebackers coach Andy Buh to his staff as linebackers coach. In addition to his time at Arizona, Buh has coached at Rutgers, Maryland, Kentucky, Cal, Wisconsin (with Bielema), Nevada, Stanford and San Diego State including seven seasons as a defensive coordinator.

Purdue: Mark Hagen will be the Boilermakers’ defensive line coach, according to multiple reports. It’ll be his second stint in West Lafayette, having coached multiple defensive spots over an 11-year run from 2000-10. Hagen spent 2016-19 at Indiana and 2020 at Texas.

Maryland: Maryland has announced Dan Enos as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and Brian Braswell as offensive line coach. Defensive line coach Brian Williams has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator.

Illinois: Purdue defensive line coach Terrance Jamison has been named to the same post  for the Illini.

Boise State: Per multiple reports, UC Davis (FCS) offensive coordinator Tim Plough will be the new offensive coordinator for Andy Avalos at Boise State.

Kansas: Newly hired offensive line coach Lee Grimes’ deal with the Jayhawks is guaranteed for the first two years, with an option by Kansas over the next four years of the deal, KUSports.com details. Grimes will make a base salary of $175k. If Grimes were to leave for another job, Kansas would be owed $350k and the only way Grimes could leave without a buyout is if he was hired as the head coach of an FBS program. Should KU fire him without cause, he would be owed the remainder of his salary.

Plough is good hire for Boise but that’s going to be a big change from Harsin’s offense.

Please be true.

Bama fans should enjoy this title. It really may be the last for awhile. Bill O'Brien is coming to town and he's bringing football hell with him.

If there is one man who can kill the giant, it's that asshole.

Damn, Harsin continues plucking new staff from Beamer's Gamecocks...

South Carolina’s loss is another Southeastern Conference rival’s gain.  Sources on Wednesday confirmed to FootballScoop that veteran defensive line coach Tracy Rocker departed the Gamecocks’ and first-year coach Shane Beamer’s staff for a spot at his alma mater, Auburn University, on the staff of first-year coach Bryan Harsin.  Rocker was a two-time All-American and Outland Trophy winner for the Tigers in the late-1980s.

Per his twitter bio - Kenny Hill has been hired as QB coach at TCU

This is like when you start releasing the good players from your Madden team after you get sick of coasting to back to back to back Super Bowls.

Saban is a genius. These guys were bad HCs but among the best in the game as assistants, which is what he's hiring them for. Basically the same thing he did with Sark.

Saban with a solid OL Coach replacement... last 8yrs with Philly

That was somewhat shot down earlier today. Still under contract at Philly and may not be that interested in going back to college.. Could still happen but not a slam dunk by any means
