There's plenty more.  Just Google "Don Carthel violations" or "Colby Carthel probation".  And people in West Texas will tell you that's normal business for them

Dirty as fuck, but it sounds like they got ratted out by a rival. Probably ruinous to their career, though. Once you're classed as dirty way down at that level, even if it's for legit reasons, you're fucked.

My money is on 2019-20 that a bunch of big jobs open up.

You could see

USC, Florida State, and potentially Michigan or LSU open up with poor performances

tOSU due to “health”

Pedo State, BlowU for coaches jumping to NFL

and at some point in the next few years Bama will open if they win another MNC or two.

Wonder if this is a way to get Beaty in the door to stay. Herman is likely more comfortable working with him than Mehringer or any others. Who would be the one to go?

Unless the "poor performance" involves a non football scandal, there is no possibility that lsu or Michigan open up next year.  Going 9-3 and 10-2 buys you some goodwill.

Not if you can't beat the Buckeyes

The patience at Michigan has to be wearing out already. That was a lot of money to spend a guy who is...fine at best.

Florida State won’t open up next year. Jimbo left a mess. Taggart gets three years.

USC should’ve opened up this year.

Michigan got their hand slapped just like Nebraska did.  They got rid of Carr and ended up with 2 coaches that disappointed even more.  I know Carr won a championship in his 3rd year but he only won 1 more game than Harbaugh through 4 years and Harbaugh hasn't played his bowl yet.  Carr did beat OSU but Hoke and RichRod were a combined 1-6 against OSU.  Harbaugh is a top 5-7 coach in a top 5-7 job.  He will win a national championship there if they give him 10 years.  If they don't, they will bring in at best a Ty Willingham who will win with Harbaugh's players and then tank the program, or the will bring in another Hoke/Richrod who will start a cycle of irrelevance for them.

Every program, even UT, that expects to win national titles goes through this cycle.  UT is lucky it seems to have hit on Herman or it could be 10+ years of wandering lost in the woods.  You don't fire a great coach because of what he can't get done in one or two games a year.  You fire a coach when his problems are systemic.  Harbaugh has an Urban Meyer problem.  Not a "you can't coach" or "he can't manage the clock" or "he can't recruit" or "his team has no discipline" problem.  If UM isn't at OSU then Michigan might have 2 Big10 Championships in 4 years and 2 playoff appearances.  UM will be gone soon enough.  He always tucks tail and runs from the problems he creates.  Harbaugh is at least man enough to look his problems in the eye.  At the end of the day, that should save his job over losing to OSU.

Ain't nobody going up to AA and turning it around until Ohio State botches a coaching hire.

He will win a national championship there if they give him 10 years.

Wow, they have legit had some fantastic hires going back to the late 40s

Wes Fesler (.608 Winning %, 1 conf champ, College HOF)
Woody Hayes (.761 Winning %, 13 conf champ, College HOF, 5 NCs)
Earle Bruce (.755  Winning %, 4 conf champ, College HOF)
John Cooper (.715 Winning %, 3 conf champ, College HOF)
Jim Tressel (.810 Winning %, 6 conf champ, College HOF, 1 NC)
Urban Meyer (.904 Winning %, 2 conf champ, 1 NC)

That's pretty damn impressive.

Doesn't Malzahn have a crazy high buyout?

Yes.

Math sucks, but 75% of something like 49-~7, is like 31.5 million they'd owe him if they can him.

Yes - something like 16 mil immediately and 16 mil over a few years. Have to be really crazy to do this but the AD is brand new and didn't have anything to do with the contract so who knows.  Auburn does not have a lot of deep pockets donors like some schools so they better have a few of them on board to pay for this

Someone needs to look for Jimmy Sexton behind half of this junk....  Coach "expresses interest" in huge contract like Jimbo and magically gets huge contract without leaving

If I do that math even halfway correct - with the buyout and the "huge" contract the new coach is costing north of 22 mil next year. And that doesn't even consider any buyouts of assistant coaches

So Saban to Barn?

probably Harbough.  It would be interesting if it came from left field like Spurrier..... Stoops could be DC - just getting the old Florida gang together again. Or we could go back to 2002 - get Tuberville back with Chizik as DC and Petrino as OC.  That was a fun year

I assume they meant Bob. Which I absolutely can't believe is true. Mark Stoops commanding 75 million contract type money is not a world where I'm mentally and emotionally prepared to occupy.

Bob Stoops. The alpha and the omega.

When it comes to bags of dicks, anyway.

Disagree. There aren't many jobs in the country where if you go 11-1 every year a fan base will be more disappointed then if Michigan continues to lose to OSU. Hell there is a segment of their fan base that would be fine with losing to Iowa, Penn State, and Wisconsin as long as they beat OSU and MSU.

I am not saying he's on the hot seat but another couple of years of getting exposed against OSU and he will have used up all the good will he had.

They need to beat Ohio State in the next couple of years or he will tuck his tail and run like he has before.

So Stoops leaves OU.  Turns down Florida.  Could wait on Ohio State.  Hell, could call USC right now and get Helton fired and $7 million a year.

But he's going to pass on all that to go to shithole Auburn and share the state with the greatest coach in modern history and coach for a school that makes life miserable.

Sure....

If the "Jimbo Fisher" type deal is accurate, then they are offering a huge amount guaranteed and it's more than he'd ever get at USC or Ohio State (from purely a guaranteed dollar amount).

But this is also likely gasbagging by the Yellawood dude and others. Not that they couldn't pull it off and it wouldn't surprise me if they had reached out to him.

Bob Stoops is not coaching again, geez.  He said for years that he didn't want to coach past 60.  He says the year around grind between recruiting and coaching is more than it used to be and he wanted to enjoy a real retirement.  He decided to pull the plug a few years early, and he seems to be doing just fine.  He's not coming back.  Maybe a cushy job within some athletic department, but he's not coaching again.  He's done.

you have to wonder who calls Gus Malzahn

would he go work for "free" at Texas State with Auburn basically paying the bill......would Texas Tech open up "the Auburn connection" again......can KSU get Snyder to leave or perhaps pay Gus Malzahn $500,000 to wait a year as an "analyst" for KSU while triple dipping as a TV talking head

is there some other program out there on the fence about firing a guy that would do so if they thought Gus Malzahn would come to them cheap

I don't think Stoops would take the job, but then you have to wonder who else it is they think they can land that is "jimbo like" and really if you are Stoops and it is Auburn (Alabama A&M) why not take a stupid ass high contract, hire assistants like Casita Mack and then see how things work out while knowing you are getting paid massive money either way

If I go down an arbitrary list of the big name coaches in the country, who would even consider it?  Saban, no.  Dabo, no.  B Kelly, maybe, but not when in playoffs.  Urban, no.  Riley, no.  Herman, no.  Petersen, no.  Smart, no.  Harbuagh, no.  Mullen, no.  Fisher, no.

Who else is a big enough name to demand that kid of money?

The only two i can think of are James Franklin (no better than Gus) or maybe Pete Carroll would consider it.  Gary Patterson finally leaves for $70 million?

Leach will never go back to Tech.  Unless he gets Hance to get on his knees publicly and hand him his check.  Weekly.
