In 2018, OU had “inadequate operating cash.” Has much changed?

Yeah that's my point -- if he gets the tcu job I think Dykes gets fired by end of 2025...

HE seems to be a decent coach but what do I know I thought Herman was a great hire.

As for hiring college coaches unless you can snag Saban it's all a crap shoot.

And even Saban won it all at only 50% of his stops as a head coach.

Some smoke we’re hearing is SC is looking hard at Bill O’Brien

Oh dear. I’m sure Saban is putting in a strong recommendation to get BoB out of his hair

Football scoop says it's LSU possibly:

The latest report today from Matt Jones of KY Sports Radio shares that LSU has contacted Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops, who has the Wildcats sitting at 7-3 overall and second place in the SEC East heading into their last two games against New Mexico State and on the road at Louisville. Wins in those games would assure a third season with at least 9-wins in two of their last four seasons, the last of which came in 2018 when they finished in the top 15 nationally after a win in the Citrus Bowl got them to 10 wins.

Jones later added that the top of LSU's wish list contains three coaches: Fisher, Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, and Stoops ("in that order").

You'd think they'd be all over this second chance at MENSA.

Seriously -- to y'all who think we'd be better off with him, apparently about 1/5 of the programs out there disagree. I've only heard two blink and you missed them rumors about anyone even considering him.

A coworker who played on the '05 USC team told me some time back that they'd be looking at NFL guys, so this fits I guess.

Holy crap... good for him.

For reference, this is his head coaching record:

2011 NFL (interim) 2-3

------------------------

2019 Colorado 5-7

2020 Mich St 2-5

2021 Mich St 9-1 so far

College record: 16-13

Go ahead and update that College Record to 16-14.  Down 28-0  35-0  42-0 49-0 to tOSU in the 2nd quarter.

Mullen may have just punched his ticket into the carousel. What a wild offseason this is gonna be - LSU, USC, VT, possibly Florida, Miami, and Nebraska?

In this day and age, the VT and Nebraska jobs are nothing special.  Miami is borderline but there’s always so much local talent the right coach can always turn it around.

Time to start up the Jack Del Rio rumors again?

Special doesn't really matter that much either. UT is special, as is Florida, FSU, USC, etc.  Hows that going?

Frost will be back at Nebraska. They gave him an extension and made him fire a bunch of assistants.

The only reason they aren’t firing him is because they’ve seen the coaching market.

Why not wait another year and see if a better replacement is available?

Some of these names rumored at USC, LSU and Florida are awful. It’s a terrible time to have a shitty coach because you’re almost locked into another questionable hire.

As painful as that was, I think coach Tucker won't be fired for that loss (he's actually going to get his extension, I just hope we don't regret that in a few years)

Wow all the Florida teams suck this year. Not just the historic big three but the pesky newcomers too.

FLA and TX both have far too many FBS programs now and we just keep adding more.

Alabama and Georgia have taken the top flight talent out of the state.  I read the article a month or so ago (maybe The Athletic?) that illustrated how many of the Top 300 each of the past few years that were in Florida committed to those two programs, rather than stay in state.

That is it in a nutshell. Our recruiting has sucked, and we are now reaping the result. Trask - a kid who never started a game in h.s. - dropped in our lap and we dodged a bad year due to Kyle Pitts being a mutant who caught his stuff.

Mullen is not a bad coach, but he is a terrible recruiter. Zook was a bad coach but a great recruiter. Much more bueno, as Urban won a natty with Zook’s guys. Our next coach is fucked.

Would FL consider Sam Pitman ?

Pittman legitimately loves Arkansas and is a great fit there.  He's playing with the house's money, he knows that, and would be foolish to leave.

A lot of P5 head coaches are going to get some nice raises out of Florida, LSU, and USC all needing head coaches.

Might see Sam get another raise for him and/or his Staff...

Damn, I had forgotten about the extension:

https://theathletic.com/news/florida-fires-dan-mullen-less-than-6-months-after-signing-hc-to-extension-source/nkwa3g9Lnw7J/

The firing comes less than six months after Florida and Mullen agreed to a three-year extension through the 2026 season, and one year after the Gators reached the SEC championship game. But starting with a three-game losing streak to end last season, UF is just 2-9 in its last 11 games against Power 5 teams.

Oh, they just don't want left out, since all the other cool kids are doing it.

EDIT:  They have to fire him anyway if he's not vaxxed by Dec 8:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32473672/auburn-football-coach-bryan-harsin-declines-disclose-vaccination-status-mandate-deadline-looms

Quote

With Auburn University last week mandating a Dec. 8 deadline for all university employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, head football coach Bryan Harsin on Monday declined to disclose whether or not he had received the vaccine or planned to receive it.

Harsin has refused multiple times to discuss his vaccination status going back to SEC media days in July and said it was a deeply personal decision for everyone. But his comments Monday were his first since the university announced on Oct. 22 that it had modified its vaccine policy to require all employees to be fully vaccinated or face termination.

Quote

According to Auburn's new policy, there could be limited circumstances where an employee is legally entitled to a medical or religious accommodation from being required to take the vaccine. The Dec. 8 deadline for providing proof of vaccination means employees need to have the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines by Nov. 24 or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine by Nov. 24.

Harsin tested positive for COVID-19 in August and said at the time that he was not "anti-vaccine" and that any narrative along those lines was "misinformed."

Waive Sark's buyout and dangle him in front of their AD by a crane on a comically oversized fishing hook. Then hire Aranda. Easy.

Auburn message board smoke right now, but he is a top candidate at UW and auburn would let him walk for free is the word on the street. Steven Godfrey has been hinting at that job being open soon.

Which makes no sense, since he would have to get vaxxed to even be a candidate.

I don't doubt it, but unless it's revealed he has been vaxxed (and there's no articles on this, other than the slew of articles in late October saying he wasn't and his time at Auburn might be in jeopardy) Washington State just fired a coach for refusing to take a shot.  That's the head scratching thing.

EDIT:  The footballscoop sort of addresses this:

Auburn also has a vaccine mandate bearing down next month, and to this point, that appears it could be an obstacle for Harsin and the Tigers' administration. One has to wonder how this would be different at UW?
