WRT Shuster- she explains the Michaels relationship, which the Wiki bio details just make sound more creepy. Lorne Nichaels is six years older, and she was 17 when they married. He was a 20 year old dating a 14 year old.

That was interesting, I didn’t realize who her dad was or that she was related to the Superman creator:

Shuster was married to Saturday Night Live's creator, Lorne Michaels, from 1967 to 1980. The pair first met in junior high school, when Michaels, born Lorne Lipowitz, followed her home hoping to meet her famous father.Together Shuster and Michaels wrote and performed comedy sketches through high school, summer camp, and college. They began their TV career on The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour show for Canadian TV on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Appearing on the show were Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner, among others. Shuster and Michaels moved to Los Angeles to work on The Lily Tomlin Show for ABC, where they also met Laraine Newman, whom they invited, along with Aykroyd and Radner, to join the Not Ready for Prime Time Players for Saturday Night Live.

I need to check YouTube for a shitload of Akroyd and Radner stuff on Canadian shows.

She’s Jewish. They may not have banged until well after the marriage.

I only dated two Jewish girls though so my sample size is small.

Yes, it’s often the case that 20 year old men are romantically interested in 14 year old girls because they are looking for a soulful meeting of minds.

A soulful meeting of minds did occur, it’s just that it was between Lorne and her dad.

I have a 15 year old daughter. I don’t trust 15 year old boys, and my level of distrust rises exponentially with the age of any suitor.

Oh it was creepy, especially given that her dad became his mentor. But I think it was less about her and more about her dad.

Enjoyed it on airplane last week.  Led me down the rabbit hole to watch first episode on Peacock and keep going.

I did same once the movie finished.

went straight to the cock and watched season 1 episode 1.

It really is interesting to watch the first episode after watching the movie.

The puppets….all the voices from Fozzy, Rolf, and some of the others….Chevy almost botching the weekend news.  Carlin straining with his monologues.

Yes, even that “gentle soul” David Bowie had a 13 year old fuck buddy in LA.

You can’t say “it was the ‘70s”. I was alive back then and k ew it was wrong.

So did Lorne.

I would kill a 20 something messing with my middle school-aged daughter.

Which way to the unpopular opinion thread?

I very much enjoyed it...while i don't think the actor playing Belushi was good, the rest of the casting was damn near perfect.  Dylan O'Brien as Ackroyd particularly nailed it for me.

Rules…

Watched it last night. Whoever said it was good but forgettable 5 minutes after is spot on. Used to be an SNL fanatic so I enjoyed it. But I probably wouldn’t rewatch it if it came on TNT. On a flight? Maybe

Got all set up to watch it and then Netflix tells me i need to pay for it?

i thought i already paid for Netflix!! Motherfuckers!

(i am old enough to remember, when we were told: purchase cable, there are no commercials!! Getting slowly fleeced stands the test of time)

i'm assuming user error on this one.  were you signed in?

I watched it again with my dad and enjoyed it more the second time. I did read the Live From New York oral history that came out like 20 years ago between viewings, so that may have been part of it.

Thought we'd love this but it was not good.  Just not funny and not entertaining enough otherwise.

The entire thing came across pretty flat. If you've read the Live from New York book mentioned above, you don't need to watch this.

The first episode of SNL pretty much has zero laughs in it on a current-day watch.

Have you ever fed your fingertips to a wolverine?

I thought it was ok. Glad I saw it but doubt I’d watch it again. I’d still suggest any fan of the show see it regardless.

That was such a weird opening for an entire series, yet here we are.

That was the point, I thought.  You're not really living up to your claims or intentions of avant-garde entertainment without some weird shit.  Might as well yank the band-aid off.
