Not for nothing but the most recent of these films came out 16 years ago

Yeah. And I was specifically responding to this POST, which talks about comedy basically stopping being worth a shit after the early 2000s:

I think those of us who hated HG2 are just starving for a classic comedy us guys can repeat lines from 10-15-30 years from now. We had a hell of a run in the 90s with the Happy madison movies, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber etc. early 00's with 40 YO virgin, Superbad, Meet the parents, Old school. I know im missing some in both genres.   I dont remember the last real true comedy cult classic that almost every one thought was fucking hilarious but also an original.

Well Step Brothers was 2008 and probably the last truly quotable movie.  We are closer to that shit being 20 years old.

Jamie Lee Curtis Grey Hair GIF

Well… go read the quotable movie quotes thread from the last decade and I’d be pretty fucking right.

Unless you’re still peeved I left off some classics from the list I rattled from the top of my head that I’d agree are classics

Arnold Palmer?

No, Jack Nicklaus, but I do get that a lot.

It had some funny scenes but overall it was worse than I was expecting a 30 year after the fact sequel to be. They didn’t need to sequel every character where the son plays them. Eminem was the worst of all.

I also know for a fact when the original came out my dad was the age I am now and he shook his head at happy Gilmore and Billy Madison as I laughed my ass off so it’s probably just me being old now and shaking my fist at everything.

Didn't lol once, would not recommend. Sandler has been a hack for 20+ years now, churning out turd after turd. I think this movie was written by a combination of AI and the South Park manatees.

I had a few chuckles.  Him being essentially a teddy bear alcoholic who on one hand has a major addiction problem, but he's just so lovable and his kids adore him so it's funny was dumb idea.  But ignoring that aspect you can get a few laughs.

Even if you think it's a bad movie how could you not laugh at Daly or Scottie?

Edited by Surly Bevo

Yeah, even the hardest of hardasses would at least chuckle at Daly.

I thought it was goofy, pretty stupid and funny as hell at a few point.

I still don't know why the line by Grubbs' son: "Of course I'm never coming back you fine ass English Hill billy" killed me. Reggie Bush and Eminem cameos were fun.

I also get not liking it, but don't get hating it at all.

Margaret Qualley is a bad bitch. That is all.

Fwiw -

She's married to Jack Antonoff of bands Fun and Bleachers.  Antonoff is also the co-writer of many of the top Taylor Swift songs.

Qualley's mom is Andie MacDowell, who has been one of the most gorgeous women on the face of the planet for quite some time.  She's aging gracefully a 67.  And, she's a good actress.

Last - from all of the comments, it seems HG2 is a shoo-in for an academy award nomination for a new category - most effective use of cameo appearances.

That's basically true of most of the films discussed on the page, including some from the rest of the post.

Daly, Scottie,  and Zalatoris went a long way in bailing this movie out of the low, low, low expectations I had for it.

How the fuck are people hating on this movie? Expectations were set entirely too high apparently. I thought it was fucking funny. And a worthy follow up to the original, even though they had to rewrite it after Carl Weathers died.

I still haven’t watched it but I feel like it’s gonna be an anchorman 2 deal.  everyone I talked to, and I mean everyone, told me anchorman 2 was shit.  when I finally watched it, fuckin hilarious.  just great, great shit.  sometimes the jokes are just too high brow for the masses, and I get that, it’s not a big deal.

This has been on HBO quite a bit lately so I'll turn it on from time to time. It's overly long and it gets quite distasteful about halfway through but there's some good parts to it and I do enjoy the ending.
