January 29Jan 29 zeigler back for the 2H. hallelujah. he deserves a healthy finish to his college career.
January 29Jan 29 this is why tennessee has to play with a lead. they’ve missed what has to be 15+ wide open, in-rhythm threes. milicic is 4-7, the rest of the team is 6-31 including 1-9 from zeigler and 2-8 from lanier. Edited January 29Jan 29 by Derka
January 29Jan 29 11-44 from deep for tennessee, and it feels like virtually none of them were contested.
January 29Jan 29 Finally I can go to bed! Huge win given the circumstances with the pg. Edited January 29Jan 29 by Underdog
January 29Jan 29 I’m lazy as it pertains to Rick Barnes, but it seems like this is typical shit with his team. I know they went to the Elite 8 last year, but it just seems like they mostly wind up being better in early January than any time in March. Watching the ATM/OU game, does anyone know why the aggies are in pink in January? I thought the pink shit was for Mother’s Day weekend and October. I know it’s related to breast cancer, just seems like an odd time.

Most teams in both men’s and women’s usually start the pink around this time for a few weeks. It’s been the standard around this time for at least a decade if not more. What’s throwing you off is the A&M jerseys. You usually don’t see a men’s team do pink on the jerseys like you do the women. Men usually do something small like the refs usually do pink whistles or lanyards and men do pink towels, shoelaces, or headbands. There was a try to get the men’s to switch to doing prostate cancer awareness instead of breast cancer, but it never took off.

I know Tennessee is only like 7 or 8 deep, and I watch plenty of basketball, but it just feels like they’re a first weekend special this season. Whoever they’re playing in the round of 32, I’m taking the other team in my bracket. Unless it’s Texas or ATM, of course.

January 30Jan 30 ZZ is the kind of college hoops star that has become more and more rare over the years. a star who will always be associated with the college game + only one school. easiest guy to root for in all of cbb for me.
February 1Feb 1 no zeigler or milicic today for tennessee. i’m sick that i didn’t put more money on UF ML.
February 1Feb 1 Just now watching, what’s the story on their absence? Zig still banged up from UK game?

Zig still banged up from UK game? yeah zeigler is out with his knee injury and milicic woke up sick today. and yet tennessee, who’s lost 3 of 4 and lost 73-43 to florida like two weeks ago, is up by 10 with 13:20 to go. i’m not feeling so sick anymore lol.
February 1Feb 1 ok thank god i didn’t know that tennessee was going to be so shorthanded lol. the more i watch this team, the less i’m able to predict what they’re going to do next. this is shocking lol. tennessee up 55-35 with 5:54 to go. that defense is smothering. Edited February 1Feb 1 by Derka
February 1Feb 1 Good bounce back win for Big Orange. Mizzou putting a hurtin’ on Miss St in 2H, 71-45. Might have to take a couple naps in order to stay up and watch TFC’s lovefest tonight. Edited February 1Feb 1 by Underdog

I have not watched Barnes teams closely since he left Texas. But one thing I noticed that he always did in the last 4-5 minutes of close games was to slow down the pace significantly, put the ball in the hands of one person, and rely heavily on that person to either score or distribute the ball to someone for a shot, usually late in the shot clock. He did this even when they had significant talent advantages in a game. That approach causes losses at times in games they otherwise should have been able to win by simply out-talenting the other team down the stretch. Of course, that approach also wins some games. It makes his teams more unpredictable in the tournament.
February 1Feb 1 the toughest part for a typical barnes team in the tourney is that they can’t play from behind without a TJ Ford, Dalton Knecht, J’Covan Brown, etc. this team of his has nobody like that, as is the case with most of his teams. but that’s the sacrifice you make when your entire philosophy revolves around trying to be the best defensive team in the country. it’s also why he likes to slow it down like that, which is solid in theory. you lessen the number of possessions and keep playing the defense you’ve been playing all night and in theory you wrap up the win. i understand why he does it, same as i understand fans’ frustrations when it doesn’t work.
February 1Feb 1 it’s really hard to get to the FF this way, but you’re going to win a ton of games and be consistently good-great more often than 95% of other programs. i wish more fans of his teams would appreciate that. tennessee fans incessantly bitch about barnes, but if he left that program at the end of the year i have a very strong feeling that lots of faces would soon be eaten by leopards all over knoxville shortly thereafter.

February 5Feb 5 Kentucky is pretty good at home but they have major issues on the road/neutral court. About to be 4-5 in those games and really should have a couple more losses.

February 6Feb 6 as of now dennis gates is the runaway favorite for NCOY. just lol at this: Mizzou 2024: Mizzou 2025: unbelievable turnaround, especially considering the strength of the 2025 sec.
February 6Feb 6 I bet you could copy/paste 80% of what Mizzou fans said about Gates last year and it would match up to the Fire RT thread

February 6Feb 6 Guess I haven’t seen a Georgia home game in a minute. How long has their court been this atrocious?
