It is officially game week and that means the return of Sark's weekly press conferences.  I downloaded the LHN app today and it shows that the presser is scheduled for 11:15 tomorrow so I'm going with that.  Should be available at the following link: https://watch.longhornnetwork.com/home

The 2024 season is here and the first opponent is Colorado State:

You look at Colorado State over there, and it's just all about the tradition of this joke never getting old, even a good 8 years after the man himself departed this space.

Nah. That joke got old at least five years ago.

All humans always think the same things are funny.

I feel no need to continue the joke since Sark actually won something for us last season. That was partially the point of the joke. Though when I think of an arbiter of what's funny, it's a guy like Trashmaster G. He's hilarious.

That's what I tell my girlfriend all the time.

She agrees. Sometimes.

Sark 1st Game Week presser is underway. Fired up is an understatement
Steve Sarkisian: "What an exciting time, any time you're kicking off a football season. You can feel the excitement in the air."
Steve Sarkisian: "I love gamedays, even when we first start at the hotel. I love walking down Bevo Blvd., seeing everybody there, seeing the parents of our players, the excitement they have in our eyes, all the way through pregame, that stuff is really cool."
Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian talked about this being the 100th year of DKR and said he's honored to be the coach this season.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian calls Colorado State WR Tory Horton "a dynamic receiver." #HookEm

"Coach Norvell has done a really job of building that program back up" -Steve Sarkisian talking about Colorado State
Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said Colorado State is a very tough opponent. Said they were 5-7 last year but had several close games that could have gone either way. In addition, Sarkisian said they have a very well-coached team.

100th year of the stadium. DKR was a person. DKR-TMS is a stadium. This will forever bother me.

Excellent job with the press mic. You can actually hear the questions. Maybe not mumbling Cedric Golden's.

Sark mentions that in week one he wants to see his team minimize self-inflicted wounds like false starts, illegal formations, offsides, etc."For me, the biggest thing that I'm looking for now more than ever is our ability to play a lot of players, especially in the first half…
Sark says because they play so many players earlier in the season, "if you're in the two deep you're playing in the first half. Then if you're a three, there's a good chance that you could play especially at specific positions."

#31
Sark on Tory Horton, mentions they need to find him pre-snap, prevent him from winning at the top of routes, and then getting him on the ground on both standard downs and special teams.

#32
Sark on leadership: "This is a more unique year for us that way. I know we lost some great players off of last year's team and we lost some tremendous leadership off last year's team. That was something, coming into this year, what was it going to look like for us? I could list…
Sark, on how the veterans on his roster make a difference in the development of his younger players: "I could list between 20 to 30 guys who have been with us for three or four years in the program--our culture is their culture. You can hear them speak it."

"Our players, when they grow up with us, we do throw a lot at them. We put them in some uncomfortable situations,"Sarkisian said about younger players."For a lot of the older players, they can almost sense when I'm doing something like that, and they almost rally more now."

#35
Sarkisian when asked if Arch Manning would play at all in the first half against Colorado State:"We will find out."

#37
Sark mentions that 8-of-12 wins last year were one-score games in the fourth quarter: "It wasn't like we walked our way to victories. We had to find ways to win late in game in some adverse situations, I think that part was our culture and our leadership. We're going to need that…

"we're gonna run it between the tackles" with a smile on his face.

I’ve never lived there, but I’ve been to Missouri. Would love to see it consistently.

#39
Sark says every running back "is going to run between the tackles and they'll do great."
Asked about the RB situation and possible depth issues, Sark doesn't hesitate. "We’re going to run it between the tackles. They learn how to run on the day they show up here."

What have you seen this camp that leads you to believe the red zone will be better. In general why is the receiving group good?

No false starts penalties etc its clean football that's a priority. Right call right time, players need to make good plays

Gonna play a lot of receivers early and find rhythm. The ball will find them. Davonte you didn't design the ball for him it just found him. Who do you design for? So they get their touches

#41
Sark on red zone TD conversions: "We have to do a battle job of not stubbing our own toe in the red area with false starts, penalties, negative plays. Our efficiency rate in the red area is drastically improved when we just continue to move the ball forward. That's the first part…
Head coach Steve Sarkisian on working from the red zone:"We have to do a better job about not stubbing our own toe in the red area."

#42
Sarkisian on WR: "I definitely have the utmost confidence in all those guys. It's just finding the right rhythm and naturally, there's certain guys that the ball finds them."
Sark, on receiver rotation: "We're gonna play a lot of receivers, especially early in the season, and we need to find that rhythm and rapport...we'll need to find who the ball "finds", and how we get the ball to them...we practice it in a way where we've got a rotation."

#44
Sark: Every year is a new team and every team takes on its own personality and you try to play to the strengths of that team. It’s not rinse and repeat. It’s important we re-establish our brand of football. #HookEm

Rice game was hot. Similar to this. What did you learn how you did that?

Going to be a lot of the same on the defensive side of the ball.

Learned from offense.

Whatever you see on tape isn't what you are going to see. They have had 9 months to prepare. Offensively playing more players will be more beneficial

#47
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian says the team "should always be hovering around 10 (NFL) draft picks." Said he "wouldn't be surprised" if team reaches that number again in 2025. #HookEm

#49
Sark says he believes the team played 32-33 players on defense last year against Rice in the first half. Says also the team has to be ready for Colorado State to throw a novel look at the offense but to still execute regardless. Mentions he might play more players on offense than…
Sarkisian said one of his main takeaways from the opener against Rice last year was the completely different defense the Owls ran compared to the previous season.Sarkisian said he expects similar from Colorado State."They've had 9 months to prepare"

Steve Sarkisian on Velton Gardner: "He really fits the mold of style of backs that we have now. Really versatile guy. Natural running ability. Very good hands out of the backfield. I think the transition for him coming to our system fits well and bodes well with the other three…
Sark confirms the addition of RB Velton Gardner and also mentions WR Ryan Niblett as also "doing some things in the backfield" for Texas. "I'm glad we have the transfer portal, we get a free agent right before the season." #HookEm https://t.co/kVEAMslGNu
