August 26, 20241 yr This is shaping up to be a huge game. 3rd person shooter with a single player campaign and then a lot of pve/pvp/co-op game modes to provide a lot of staying power. Lots of DLC but cosmetics only. I think its releasing for PC and current and last gen consoles all at once. I think it's going to do a lot to bring Warhammer 40K more into the popular culture. Especially with Disney shitting the bed with legacy Star Wars fans, lots of fertile nerd minds ripe for take over.

Warhammer is so niche though and it’s not like its IPs are rife with great games either but this does look great (not my genre though). Star Wars is Star Wars. Plus Outlaws seems to have its own healthy buzz.
August 26, 20241 yr Author So full disclosure it's not my genre either but I do love 40K and the game looks great, I will give it a go. I'm also not a Star Wars beyond enjoying the first three as a kid/teen. I read all sorts of shit about Disney pissing off fans though. As for the IP, Warhammer is getting pretty big. You could read a 40K book once a month and go 50 years with lots of books left. There are also more and more video games (and really there have always been a lot of Warhammer video games, the list is somewhat shocking actually), including truly great ones across multiple genres like Rogue Trader (classic turn-based CRPG), Chaos Gate Daemonhunters (XCOM2-like), Gladius (4X), Battlesector (table top-ish skirmish/campaign game) and Mechanics (TBS that sold well enough to get a sequel). And those are just the ones I own and would recommend, like I said the list of Warhammer video games is crazy long. Finally, Henry Cavil doing that 40K show for Prime is going to be what pushes it over the top. I've heard that could fall through but I think there's too much at stake for the IP to let that happen, we'll see.
August 27, 20241 yr I'lll grab this one eventually once it's on sale. The original was fun but didn't have a ton of replay value (only 8 hours of content). Kinda surprising that they took 13 years to produce a sequel.
September 11, 20241 yr Are all games $70 now? That’s a kick in the balls for a game that apparently has a 10-12 hour campaign.

The campaign is basically a story crafted version of the recurring co-op gamemode. I had a blast with it and it's a GORGEOUS game if you can crank the settings up. I'm looking forward to checking out some of the multiplayer with buddies one of these nights The set pieces in the last act of the campaign are some top shelf 40k chicanery
September 14, 20241 yr Yeah I went ahead and picked it up for Xbox since I needed something new to play and have loved that world since the terrifying Space Hulk PC game in college. It’s similar to Gears of War but I like it more.

A podcast I listen to framed the first Space Marine game pretty well as a contrast against Gears of War, where rather than taking cover you ARE the cover. 3rd person action shooting, but you're a walking tank. And plus, W40K was doing chainsaw swords way before Gears was around! :p
October 24, 20241 yr Man this game is great but wow I suck at it. Struggling on easy mode on Operations.

October 30, 20241 yr Something I saw on a YT video is true: early levels with any class suck. Once you put in the time to level up abilities and weapons, and learn to dodge and parry better, it gets easier. It’s also a lot easier to clear Operations missions with real players, the bots suck. Now the dilemma I have is that my weapon progress is capped and I have to go to Substantial difficulty to get the purple armory data to progress. I haven’t tried it yet but I have a feeling it won’t go well. But I’ll do it for the Emperor!
April 19Apr 19 There’s a good group on Discord called The Dadwatch for gamer dads who want to get together and play. It’s so much easier and more fun with people who communicate. https://discord.gg/thedadwatch

Enjoyed it, but wasn't in a huge hurry to play any of the extra content. I'm sure I will sometime soon when there's a gap in my library. Edited December 15Dec 15 by Storm the Field
