I won’t go CR, but these days, I’d want my kids as far away from the US military as possible.

Good

Just got a fun call. My father, retired O-6, mustang, SF. We always new he was adopted. Meh.

Turns out his biological dad was ID'd. 1 Cav in Philippines. Waiting to find out if he made it.

But shit, now I have a whole new Tartan I can wear.

Dad asked me if I wanted to change my name. Nah. I have been his kid long enough and the damn paperwork.

Was not sure where to put this, so forgive me.

Very cool, and congratulations! There are at least three adopted Surlyists that I know of, myself included. It's pretty wild suddenly finding out "where you came from" after living decades in the dark. I was in grad school at UT in my mid-to-late 20s when I first met my birthmom and started learning family history on her side. It's been really cool to find out a lot of that stuff.

If we don't already have a genealogy or adoption thread somewhere around here, you should start one if you plan to do some digging on your ancestry. @atomheartbevo has mentioned multiple times that he's become his family's historian, so I'm sure he could give some pointers.

Edit: It looks like we have a genealogy thread -- I must've missed it.

I was not adopted. My father was. Just nice to know Grunt runs in the family. It is why I posted here.

@atomheartbevo  Looks like I am going to be the same. Any advice?

I was adopted at age 4.  My adoptive father left our family when I was 9.

Fuck both of em.

Family is who loves ya, and vice-versa.  I agree with Inka saying fuck the paperwork.

Chills. Probably the most consequential aircraft in the 20th century. Not just any B29.
