Drunk, phone in one hand beer in the other going down stairs.

As soon as I said be careful he went sailing. Straight through a dog gate and head first into the wall.

No injuries.

Was the beer OK?

Sadly the beer didn't make it through the tragedy.

My drunk ass friend took a header into the wall leaving a dent about 12 inches across.

Any recommendations?

Drywall is super easy to repair. Lots of YouTube videos. If you’re not near a stud, just cut out a square around it, buy a half sheet from HD, cut similar size square. Get 4 small pieces of scrap wood and hold them inside the hole and use drywall screws to secure them. Then screw your piece to scrap. Fill gaps with mud, tape over. Doesn’t matter how bad it looks because you’re going to sand it and it and out more mud on (thinly).  Mud and sand until you’re happy.

matching the color of the paint will be the hardest part.

In addition to the above, with larger holes like that, I also like to leave about 3” of extra paper around the replacement piece.

Cut a square out around the damage. Measure the replacement piece to fit. Then measure out 3” from all sides and draw another square. Cut the outer square clean. Score the inner square (on the back, of course), but go all the way to the edge.

Snap off each side, but peel the pieces off the paper front.

Now you have a replacement square, and cover the seams similar to how they tape the joints.

Once you get the new piece screwed into your brace, lift the edges and fill the gaps. Then you can do a skim coat over the top. Feather it out good, sand, tweak until satisfied, then prime and paint. I’d paint the whole wall to ensure it matches.

oh for fuck's sake, hire a fucking Mexican off craigslist and pay him 100 bucks.  If you do it yourself it will look like shit.  It's not brain surgery, after you've done it a dozen times.  until you've done it a dozen times, you'll fuck it all up and it will look awful.

If I lived close to you, I'd come over and handle it for a couple of beers.  No big deal. But I know what the fuck I'm doing, and you don't.  You might as well take out your own appendix.

EVERY MOTHERFUCKER ON THIS BOARD THAT ISN'T AN IDIOT KNOWS I'M RIGHT

It's super easy to repair if you don't mind it looking shitty after the "repair" is done.

What the fuck is wrong with you?   Home depot sells shingles too. Next mofo with a roof leak needs to re-do his own roof. Fuck it, roofing is easy.

I mean, sure... I could give him the contact info for one of my sheetrock / interior guys, yeah.

& For a small roof issue on a 1 story walkable I could also explain how to stop a small leak... or charge a minimum of $ 200 for a service call.

Take a chunk of the damaged drywall to the professional paint shop of your choice (paint desk @ Home Depot, Lowe's, Sherwin Williams, etc. & they can do a 100% color match.  More than likely, a paint sample cup will be enough to cover that area however a quart isn't that expensive & who knows if he will do another header some day.

Get a cheapo paint kit (brushes, etc) & for less than $ 50 total (+ the repair kit shown above) you're good.

No way I try this myself. It will be ass, then I'll obsess over it until I finally pay a pro to do it right.

I'm gonna ask the maintenance crew at my apartment complex. They'll do it for a case of modello.

No. It’s really not that hard. It’s a very low skill level.

All of @Gil Bang replies had me laughing.  However, "You might as well take out your own appendix," is a classic.

Oh hell yea. Drink by the pool while their wives serve up carnitas.

This is turning out to better than thought.
