I'd rather stay behind Georgia until they come to Austin.  Same way I felt about being behind SC in 05.  I'd rather have something to prove than something to defend.

You say a lot of stupid shit and you do it at a rapid, voluminous rate. You’re like a shit howitzer, just fucking blasting the board with constant bullshit.

AP Poll: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll?week=14

They've set up Alabama to jump back into the Top 12, ahead of the loser of Miami-SMU. It's so blatant.

I'm old enough to remember that if we lost to Kentucky or even aggy we would drop all the way out of the playoffs.  Bama gets fucking DRUBBED by a shitty OU team we beat by 30 and can still get in.  too funny.

First AP top 10 for SMU in 40 seasons.

amazing what happens when you can meet your payroll

Miami fell 8 when they lost.  Bama treatment coming

Miami might be the biggest fraud in the country. Their schedule is an absolute joke. They might not play a top-25 team until their conference championship game.

I hope to god SMU beats them and Miami will have no justification at all for making the playoffs with 2 losses and that schedule.

A 3 loss Alabama should definitely get in over a 2 loss Miami.

The ACC is fucking garbage. Miami's best win is fucking Duke? Miami is a complete fraud that has played nobody.

Florida getting votes, LSU getting votes, Missouri being ranked, Alabama and Ole Miss in the top 15, this fucking conference is just living off of brand goodwill. None of those are good teams. Missouri is a bad team. Florida and LSU are bad teams. It’s pathetic.

You aren't wrong but the problem is when you get past the top 10 teams nobody is good.

Now that Texas is in the SEC, I am 100% onboard with SEC bias

ND effectively gets a bye not playing a CCG game. Extra week of the rest

Of course, there’s the questions of too much rest versus coming out rusty after a bye

I've never bought into the rust theory.

My take is that the risk of a major injury or even a somewhat minor one (ankle injury anyone) plus just additional wear and tear greatly outweighs any perceived rust issues. Teams typically perform better post a bye week.

If anyone knows of any good quantitative metrics that take out subjectivity and I'd truly love to see it.

I know it's a conjecture item people love to fight over, my question is, is there data supporting either side. Real data, not singular examples.

If rankings hold in future results:

1. Oregon

2. Texas

3. Miami

4. Big 12 team/Boise State

5. Notre Dame

6. Ohio State

7. Pedo State

8. Georgia

9. Indiana (placed above Tenn to avoid a conference rematch)

10. Tenn

11. ????? (Winner of SCAR/Clemson or 3 loss Bama?)

12. Big 12 team/Boise St

I truly believe it’s probably an ACC team there.  If a Miami loses a last second game to SMU or Clemson dominates SCAR

If Miami and SMU both get to 11-1, they're both getting in.  10-2 Clemson also would be ahead of all the 3 loss SEC teams.

So if we are to entertain the idea that sec conference runner up shouldn’t be punished, and aggy lands around 20 in that poll this week- then they’d need to jump up around 10 spots by beating us to be in a position to say they shouldn’t be punished for losing to Georgia.  Tough to do this late in the year.

Aggy will not get in with 4 losses.  SEC titles game or not. Georgia will with 3 losses.

This 5 seed thing is really BS.  you get to play the 2 worst teams in the the first and second round and what might be effectively the #12 and #11(or worse) ranked team.

they need to just rank the teams 1-12.  In the NCAA tourney a conf champ just gets ranked the same as a non conf champ.

Been preaching this.  Give the 5 hugest ranked champs an auto bid. But then rank them.

No reason the 8th ranked team and 11th ranked teams should be 3/4

I agree with your larger point. Missouri is a paper tiger for sure. However, against Miami or CU I wouldn't bet it either way. I'd say the same for LSU, Ole Miss and Bama. I could see them beating BYU, Miami, ND, CU or SMU. Of course, I fully admit I could see it going the other way so as not to sound like an SEC homer.

I think there is a lot more parity broadly speaking but who is great in the Big 12, ACC or B1G. As a Texas fan which conference do you think would have been tougher to get where we are today?

Looking across college this year, I think there is a new definition of what a good team looks like. Great teams, no. Good teams, absolutely.

We get too caught up in the top 25. There is not the massive chasm between number 17 and 35 that we pretend there is.

It's always been that way.

It's why Herman had pretty good teams at 8-4 and why we were ranked in the top 25. Once you get past like the top 8 to 12 teams, it's a lot meh but good in the context of other teams being worse.

Yes, and this year from about 20-50 there is just a glorious mess of mediocre teams.

As an example I am willing to bet that as shitty as they are this year I would bet on Oklahoma straight up over at least 100 of the 134 FBS teams. Florida, too. The one team that ctj mentioned that I wouldn't is probably Missouri because I just don't trust them. But a lot of that is probably because I've watched them play multiple times and haven't watched some of the other teams in that mediocre club. If I'd watched some of them I'd probably think of them the same way I think of Missouri.

Oklahoma is 23rd in my power ratings with the number 11 defense, so this is accurate.

Florida is 15th.

Mizzou is 29th, so it starts to get dicey.

I don't think they will but it will be close.

I also don't think them beating Syracuse on the road this weekend is anywhere close to a guarantee either.

Alabama’s loss yesterday was so embarrassingly horrible that it should exclude Bama period.  This isn’t about other teams.

Yeah idk about 2 loss Miami vs. 3 loss Bama. Last night was atrocious. I'm not saying Miami walks into Norman and wins but I'm guessing they find a way to put more than 3 pts on the board.

Is the Ga Tech loss worse than Vandy? Probably. Miami hasn't played anyone as good as jawja or Tenn and Bama went 1-1 there.

*Miami also strummed Gator who beat LSU and beat Ole Miss.

Neither team would really "deserve" to be in but you need 12.

Weird year.

It sure is, and you make good points.  But no way Bama should be rewarded for that garbage.   Many teams had play in situations.  Bama’s fail was the most epic.  Also, just fuck Bama

Compiled thoughts:

1) There's an argument Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State have punched their tickets already.

2) The way it stands now, it's gonna be difficult to let a 3-loss team in.

3) The final two weeks of the B12 were/are drama-filled.  Arizona and Iowa State now control their own destiny after needing quite a bit of chaos this time last week.

Here's how my model projects the CFP and CCG odds:

For the non-playoff teams, Florida, South Carolina and Kansas are three teams I would not want to see in a bowl game. (Assuming Kansas can beat Baylor and get to one)

Said it before, but I'd like to see a second ACC team before a fourth Big 10 team, and maybe even a fourth SEC team. I would like Clemson/Scar to be for a spot in the playoffs. As much as I hate Scar, that's a scrappy team that I don't think anyone would want to play in the playoffs. If they beat Clemson and the SEC gets four teams in, it should be them over Bama, Ole Miss and the other scrubs that keep getting the benefit of the rankings

Oh I’m pretty sure a 2 loss Miami or Clemson gets in over a 4th SEC team for sure. Especially since there’s not a 4th SEC team with less than 3 losses

Four Big 10 teams are getting in unless Indiana loses next week. SEC is going to push Bama as the 4th team, but I think Clemson has a great shot with a win over South Carolina. They have helmet power and a good SOS with a loss to Georgia.
