FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

And Texas is the only team with a chance to get to 6 this week. Every CCG winner should get another.

Before this last weekend we were the only team to have 8 wins over teams with a .500 or better record.

I’m not sure how that may have changed based on the results of this past weekend

I'd rather stay behind Georgia until they come to Austin.  Same way I felt about being behind SC in 05.  I'd rather have something to prove than something to defend.

You say a lot of stupid shit and you do it at a rapid, voluminous rate. You’re like a shit howitzer, just fucking blasting the board with constant bullshit.

It's highly regarded to discuss how many teams a conference deserves to get in without talking the actual teams on the bubble.

I know I shouldn’t give a shit, we’re fine with the CFP, but it’s annoying me. Need to shut them all up over the next couple weeks.

The narrative switched. Before Georgia we were invincible, the best team in the country. Then we lost and so we're frauds. Plus for lots of people that was the only time they have watched us all year.

It didn't help that our offense looked like hammered dogshit the whole game. That shit was embarrassing.

Lets stop a mudhole in aggy and get revenge in the SEC championship game.

I saw that and started to post it and then decided it was stupid and didn’t… but since it’s here:

1) there were only 6 other teams with a winning record in the SEC when that was posted.
2) we don’t control our schedule

3) we don’t control the timing of our schedule (A&M obviously the 2nd team).

4) put Georgia and Missouri (and Miss St) on blast for scheduling UMASS.

but yeah, it is comical our sec opponents’ place in the standings is currently:

2

T-3

10

11

12

13

15

16

Maybe they would have had a winning conference record if they didn't have to get an automatic L by playing us?

Maybe the SEC bluebloods shouldn't lose to teams we beat.

Yep, really tired of this narrative that we controlled who we played.

And again, we have so far beaten every team lower than us in the standings. If you lose to the teams currently at the bottom of the conference, maybe shut the fuck up.

Our schedule based on preseason predicted finish by the conference coaches:

(1) Georgia
(8) OU
(9) aggy
(11) UK
(12) Florida
(14) arky
(15) MSST
(16) Vandy

avg: 10.75

OU ended up way worse, Vandy ended up better. Aggy too.

Aggy's preseason schedule based on predicted finish by the conference coaches:

(2) Texas
(5) LSU
(6) Missouri
(10) Auburn
(12) Florida
(13) SoCar
(14) Arkansas
(15) MSST

avg: 9.625

Auburn ended up worse than predicted and aggy lost to both of them.   SoCar came out of nowhere to be a really good team.

Nope,  UGA is 6-2.  But the rest of your post stands.

Should have said we have beaten every team we were predicted to be above.  We didn't lose to teams predicted to finish near the bottom of the conference.

If you go by our preseason schedule and how the coaches predicted it, we should have beaten everyone but Georgia.

This is full on aggie style, Kyle. (And your name is suspicious too)

It's just funny because the next couple of weeks Sark and the Horns can shut everyone in the SEC the fuck up bigtime.

There's so much hate and slander we are catching it's wild, everyone is on our ass about everything. But their entire argument is moot if Quinn can get a little bit of mobility and elusiveness in the pocket and make some throws. If we play like we played against Michigan, we will beat the brakes off of aggy and probably beat Georgia too.

Yall got the breaks beat off of you by Northern Illinois and havent played anyone with a pulse since then. Join a real conference. Try winning a playoff game this year and not embarrassing yourself at home.

But actually we played with an injured QB and our OC insisted on using that game to practice his passing reps.  If everyone not named Oregon gets an excuse then we'll take it here.

'P4 winning teams'

'winning record in conference play'

Sounds like a roundabout way to point out that a conference goes .500 against itself.  It is necessary that one winning team or more will have played a weaker schedule.

Guess what happens when you are one of the top teams in the conference?  You get one fewer chances to play the top teams in the conference.

prepare yourself.  They are going to get he 5 seed and be in the semi's because they will play the #12 at home and #11(or #14) at a neutral site

I just posted in the game week thread - aggy has a .525 home SEC record, despite only having to host Tennessee once and never Georgia.  They've gotten to feast on so many home games versus MSST, Auburn, FL, SoCar and occasionally Bama/LSU and still barely over .500 in the SEC at home

If only. Not only are we ineligible for a bye but it looks like the number five boobie prize is reserved for the loser of the Big ten championship game.  It remains to be seen whether this is The New normal or an aberration with so many one loss teams near the top of one conference.

I thought the second round would maintain standard seeding matchups? In round 1, #5 plays #12, #6 vs #11, #7 vs #10, #8 vs #9.

Winner of #5 vs #12 plays #4 in second round, and so on.

Scenario 1: Beat A&M & Georgia
Result: Rematch with Georgia then take out Miami & Alabama

Scenario 2: Beat A&M lose to Georgia
Result: Open with Bama in Austin lose to Bama but lulz at them having Notre Dame win
image.thumb.png.bac48068fbe28c0da7bc86b3e26c39ad.png

Scenario 3: Lose to A&M
Result: We go to Autzen and win then upset Miami before losing to Tennessee (lulz)
image.thumb.png.5f0aa85a87785553bbe8bb618ff037bd.png

Observations:
They seem confident that Tulane is the 12 seed (all 3 times) same with Boise State at the 4 seed.
They have 4 SEC teams in all 3 scenarios with Alabama (wut?), Georgia, & Texas in all and with S Car in 1, Tenneessee in 2.

yes but the 4 seed is the worst conf champ.  they would be ranked #11 or #12 in a 1 thur 12 scenario

It is the 4th highest ranked conference champion. 12 seed is the 5th.

Yes & correct

So, what I said.  I believe the lowest conf champ (of 5) gets their seed, so if the CFP has them ranked (say) 10, they are the 10th seed.

I didn't say they would just saying that's what the playoff predictor picked 100% of the time I fucked with it.

I meant the worst conf champ from the 4 that are left after 12 seed is decided.

OK my assumption was they would never leave out the Big 12 conf champ but I guess who knows.

1 minute ago, dcar00 said:

If the Big XII conference champ has 4 losses, which is one of the crazy possiblities as it stands right now, I think they could very easily get left out for a 1 loss Army or even 2 loss Tulane.

I think the rule is written pretty well currently. There's no need to reserve spots for specific conferences. SEC and BIG will never be in that position, but Big XII and ACC very well could, including this year since the Big XII has gone full chaos these last few weeks.

3 minutes ago, dcar00 said:

There may be some hesitation to leave out a P4 champ, and I think the assumption was that they would certainly all be in the top 5. The rules allow them to be excluded, however, and it would be hilarious.

The Big 12 conference champion is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, as are the ACC, Big 10 and SEC conference champions.  The highest ranked G5 conference champion is also guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

No.  The 4 highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed spots 1-4 in order of CFP ranking.  The 5th highest rank champion also gets a spot, seeded at their rank (or #12 at a minimum).

Correct.

Who qualifies for the college football playoff?

The five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams will earn a spot in the 12-team bracket. There is no limit to how many teams from one conference can qualify. The rules also don't guarantee spots for certain conferences. The champions of the Big 12, SEC, ACC and Big Ten will almost certainly routinely qualify, though, along with the highest-ranked champion from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Sun Belt, Mid-American Conference or Conference USA.

There is no minimum ranking requirement for the five highest-ranked conference champions. There could be a conference champion ranked No. 23, for example, that's the fifth highest-ranked league winner and earns a spot in the playoff -- at the expense of the committee's No. 12 team.

Yeah. I think if Tulane and Boise are ranked higher than the Big 12, then the they’re out.

They would likely find another non-champ Big12 team.   They would not leave that faction out altogether.

I don’t think the Big 12 will get left out barring super chaos this weekend and the Big 12 champ ends up anyone other than CU, BYU, ASU or ISU

so it truly only guarantees a spot for the highest G5 conf champion.  yes I know there would never be a case where 2 of the P4 are left out but I guess 1 being left out is possible.

Let's make it happen this year boys!

Interesting way to put it, and 100% correct.  Not that it really illuminates things, but still correct.

THe Big 12 champ winner is going to get a bump.  I will be like NCAA basketball where if you win the conf tourney it helps but losing in the final or even in semi's/quarters doesn't really hurt.

speaking of the conf tournaments in basketball, those are going to be nuts this year.

Not only will they not leave them out, but I believe they'll be no lower than the #4 seed.

Do y'all really believe that the committee will set the precedent of jumping a P4 champ with a non-undefeated G5 team that has no P4 wins and three 1-score conference  wins in the first year of this format?

Nope. There’s no incentive for the Big 12 or ACC to even play this game if their champ gets left out
