I'm 100 percent serious.

This fucker needs to be executed.

AOC raises $2 million to date for citizens in a state that not only can't vote for her, but who's citizens are among the worst at trashing her. And this piece of shit flees the state he's a senator in while it's suffering from a disaster of his parties' making.

Seriously. Execution.

The article in the Washington Post on this story begins. "Nobody likes Ted Cruz."  The rest was behind a paywall.

Spoiler

Nobody likes Ted Cruz. This is conventional wisdom in Washington. While not technically true — his family members like him, presumably, and his approval rating among Texas Republicans last month was 76 percent — it feels essentially true. Maybe it’s the exhausting smarm, the squirrelly ambition, the hollow theatrics. Maybe it’s how he tried to block relief aid after Hurricane Sandy, or how he helped to shut down the government in 2013. The Victorian facial hair hasn’t helped; it lends an incongruous quality of statesmanship to a man viewed by his colleagues as a pest.

“Lucifer in the flesh,” Republican John A. Boehner, the former speaker of the House, called him in 2016.

“If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you,” Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said in 2016.

Said Democrat Al Franken in 2017, when he was still in the Senate: “I probably like Ted Cruz more than most of my colleagues like Ted Cruz, and I hate Ted Cruz.”

Spoiler

Nobody likes Ted Cruz. This was the place that Ted Cruz was starting from earlier this week. Then he went to Cancun. He went to Cancun, where it is mostly sunny and in the low 80s, while many of his ice-blasted constituents were without heating and plumbing, watching their ceilings collapse, huddling in warming centers, defecating in buckets, and generally not packing for a few days on the Yucatán Peninsula.

“Not good,” Cruz tweeted early Tuesday evening about the shutdown of his state. “Stay safe!”

Within 24 hours he was in Mexico. And by then, the pastime of disliking Ted Cruz would become sport.

“As far as I’m concerned it’d be fine if he remained in Cancun,” Democrat Chris Turner, a Texas state representative, said on CNN. “He doesn’t do anything for us in Texas or in Washington, so I don’t know that we’re going to notice when he comes back.”

The Cancun affair is “something that he has to answer to his constituents about,” Allen West, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, told the Associated Press. “I’m here trying to take care of my family and look after my friends and others that are still without power.”

“Lyin’ Ted,” as Donald Trump called him during the 2016 campaign, became “Flyin’ Ted” just past midnight Thursday, when TV journalist David Shuster tweeted a photo of Cruz headed for his seat, passport apparently in hand, on an airplane Wednesday afternoon. The Cruz family was headed to Cancun, Shuster reported. Twitter users started sleuthing immediately, trying to corroborate this reporting with photographic details of gate and flight information. The evidence suggested that Cruz was in an Economy Plus seat, with plenty of legroom, on a United Airlines flight out of Houston.

On Thursday morning, Kyle Potter, editor of Thrifty Traveler, spotted “CRU, R” — Cruz’s first name is Rafael — on United’s upgrade list for a return flight to Houston. And then Edward Russell, a reporter for Skift, cited a source at United: Around 6 a.m. Cruz, whose original return trip was Saturday, had been rebooked on a flight out Thursday afternoon.

Spoiler

And then Cruz released a statement confirming the trip, and noting that it was motivated by fatherliness.

“With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends,” Cruz wrote, mentioning the direness of the winter storm but not the pandemic that has inspired many people to avoid unnecessary travel. “Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

The Family-Man Defense, deployed to hilarious effect. As the father of daughters, I had to go to Cancun.

“Cold Cruz Flees to Cancun Amid Crisis!” was the headline on the Drudge Report.

Politicians have a terrible habit of recreating during times of crisis. When he was governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie plopped himself on a beach that was closed to his constituents because of a state government shutdown. Last year California Gov. Gavin Newsom, flouting covid caution, dined with a dozen people from multiple households at the French Laundry in Napa Valley. In 1987, as Washington grappled with a massive snowstorm, Mayor Marion Barry was in Beverly Hills drinking champagne and getting a manicure.

“We need to stay home if you can,” Steve Adler, the mayor of Austin, said in a Facebook video posted from his vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in November. “This is not the time to relax.”

Cruz joined this tradition Wednesday, escorted through the Houston airport by city police officers — perhaps a safety measure after Cruz’s workplace in Washington was besieged by insurrectionists last month following Cruz’s participation in a disinformation campaign to fuel doubt about the legitimacy of President Biden’s electoral win. At the Cancun airport Thursday, the senator appeared to be escorted by a representative from the Ritz-Carlton.

“We appreciate his visit,” the tourism ministry of Quintana Roo told The Washington Post.

“I don’t have any updates on the exact location of Senator Ted Cruz,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki noted during her daily briefing Thursday, but the exact location is always known: somewhere near the floor of how likable a senator must be to maintain power.

What I want to see are tweets from the following organizations once the AOC money is distributed saying "AOC raised and distributed $x amount to our local organization"

I'm a little dubious about grift from both sides, and have been bombarded with actblue communications after I donated last cycle.

I'm impressed. I donated and this time they actually asked me if I wanted to share my contact info with all of those groups. I don't remember actblue ever asking that before and I've always gotten bombarded with emails after donating. Looks like enough people complained.

100% bullshit lie. Because...

Guys, come on, he won't vote for Ted in 2021.
But in 2024, (insert Democrat) will be a gun-grabbing socialist hell bent on killing O&G so he just HAS to vote for Cruz this time.

We get pieces of shit to lead us because the majority of our voters are pieces of shot like Donkey. We have completely bought into a philosophy of “government means making libs cry and ensuring that the richest people in the state can get even richer,” and that’s it. There are no other principles....yet those are so sacred as to be inviolable.

Donkey will vote for Cruz in 24. That’s a stone cold lock.

I've gotten 10 emails from actblue since I donated 5 weeks ago.  That hardly rises to the level of "bombarding."

The GOP spin machine really is amazing.  All these right wingers on the community FB page who pride themselves on being ‘bootstrap’ types, fall right in line with ‘what was he supposed to do when we can’t even drive anywhere’.  Sad.

I still get at least one every day and I donated to Biden months ago.

You know what...there was probably a time when the national GOP would have demanded Cruz step down over this fiasco. If there were any chance this could cost them a Senate seat, that's exactly what they would do, and in a functioning democracy, this would definitely be the case. Take the UK, for example: as fucked up as they are, something like this would be an instant career-ender. I've seen prominent politicians implode over far less than this. (Often, awesome kinky sex scandals; they are very good at those.)

But given that Cruz has proven that even with all his hyperabundance of oleaginous repulsiveness not even a charismatic dude like Beto could defeat him, the GOP will not do a damn thing.

ted cruise needs to thank jimmy kimmel and AOC for all their fund raising efforts

Empathy. That was the least he was supposed to do. Even the bootstrappers appreciate a sympathetic nod to their situation even if it isn't actually getting something done. When you get out in the communities you serve, you begin to acknowledge the need. You see the need, you recognize the sacrifices of time, and effort, money, and in this case, lives. At least normal people, people who have compassion see this and do this.

But just as his cult leader, he would never associate with his constituents.

How many Senators got censured by their state legislatures for having the balls to do the right thing and voting to convict Trump?  The Texas Legislature isn't going to do shit to Cruz.

Not sure if it's worth anything, but as someone who voted for Cruz, I do not like this. Not one bit. I won't vote for him again, for anything.

Does Ted Cruz have a mentor or someone that he looks up for advice? As example, I assume that if Cornyn does something questionable, he could expect a phone call from McConnell giving advice. Or perhaps there is someone else in that role for Cornyn. Really, we all need that friend or person that tells us when we screwed up.

I have a hard time believing anyone really cares enough to tell Ted when he screws up. Maybe his family? but obviously not Heidi since she planned this weekend getaway. It's doubtful she thought it was wrong.

According to his staff, Ted was traveling to Mexico to get them to pay for the Wall (Heater).
Seriously, he's an asshole, a traitor, and beyond egotistical.  But he's not stupid.  I know y'all like to say he's the dumbest asshole in Texas, but he's very sharp and very measured.  That's what makes this so puzzling.  He knew he'd get this kinda backlash.  He knows 70% of his voters will suck his dick for his as long as he keeps sucking Trump's in some sort of bizarre Tex-Cru-Tru human centipede chain.  But he had to know on many levels this would not play well more broadly with all eyes on Texas right now across the nation.  I am really wondering what the play here was.

People in his echelon do not typically suffer consequences for anything. It’s that simple.

Hits keep coming..

One revealing part of this "scandal" is that no one is saying that they're shocked about his behavior.

Kinda like, (1985) I saw Senator Ted Kennedy drunk at a bar.  Ok.

I saw Ted Cruz not helping out Texans in need. Ok

The amount of egregious and often criminal behavior that has been normalized is staggering, when you numerate it. Daniel Dale did a service through fact checking every lie, but if one began to add up the various offenses to the American populace by the former Administration and the GOP, I suspect it would make for an interesting bar graph by comparison to other times.

Ted Cruz' behavior was indecent and callous. That should count against him, but it won't. It's been normalized to expect that the laws, ethics, and courteous behavior do not apply to his class.

It's usually best when the average Surlite can pronounce more than 75% of the words in the motto and understand the meaning of at least half.

But then it's unknown how many of those 50-cent words he tosses around like grenades he can define, so fair point.

You know, we’ve heard for years that despite being a loathsome repulsive mope on a personal level that Flyin’ Ted was super smart and had great political instincts.

This whole debacle obviously proves that ole chestnut wrong but not in the most obvious way.

Yeah, flying off to an expensive tropical resort while your constituents are suffering and dying during a natural disaster is just about the opposite of good political instincts.

But what’s really glaring is he missed the layup to do what was easy and right - putting on a show of caring and looking like he’s doing something.

Politicians going back centuries have known the lasting value of “looking out for the common man” and being seen as someone who will help people in need. Even if the motivation is selfish and the actual actions don’t even amount to much, just the play acting is basic Politics 101.

The flying off to Mexico pales in comparison to Flyin’ Ted’s absolute whiff on playing lip service to basic decency and humanity.

There’s something fitting about this and Biden’s quick and apolitical response in contrast with the Republican response. So many Texans despise AOC and Biden yet they still do it because doing the right thing matters. The Republican response has been to lie and politicize this or in Ted’s case, just bail. And none of it will matter on the long run.

It’s our current environment in condensed form. It’s normal, decent humanity vs. craven degeneracy.

yeah even that narcissist Trump went to Puerto Rico because he thought he needed to be seen "helping." His idea of helping was shooting paper towels out of a t-shirt cannon, but he at least showed up.  When you can't even rise to the level that Trump did, you have serious serious problems.

can't wait until i hear the first person say "everything would be fixed already if trump were president."

Ultimately, it’s between me and my maker and I only have to answer and be true to the man in the mirror, but I thought it would be worth a share to where my head was at with this and give this nobody’s perspective, instead of just chiming in only when it’s favorable to my views.

And yea, I knew I’d catch all kinds of flak for commenting, I get it, I deserve it in this case because I supported and voted for this, but this response is inexcusable to me.

Be well everyone!

Yes.  And the answer is obviously, a framed picture of himself that he talks to.

Ted Cruz, in an interview in 2015, asked Christians "to show up and vote their values and we'll turn this country around." I believe you see (now) when he asked himself, "what would Jesus do?" he turned away from the *light and turned toward the darkness. You're right, it's inexcusable.

*'And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil' (John 3:19)
