I posted this in the main thread, but it was right after the super-funny SNL Cologaurd shit-in-a-box skit, so figured MAYBE this should get its own thread.

The family indeed needs help, as he was "in between life insurance policies."  So, here's what I posted in the original thread:

Dear Friends of the Niederts,

As you may have heard, Wolfgang passed away unexpectedly last Friday morning from an infection.

Wolfgang was a loving husband and father and a loyal and generous friend to so many people in our community. He will be dearly missed.

Julie and his two daughters, ages 9 and 5, are devastated and face many immediate and longer-term needs (unfortunately, Wolfgang was in between life insurance policies).

Here are three practical ways you can love and support the Niederts during this time.

 Meals

Contribute to a gift card for ready-made meals from a place like Central Market; please Venmo me, and I will get a gift card from the group. My Venmo is [BRISKET HERE -- I DON'T WANT TO PUT HER INFO ON BLAST, SO IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE THIS WAY, PM ME AND I'LL SHARE IT WITH YOU]

 Childcare

[NOTE -- I'M LEAVING THIS ONE OUT -- BRISKET]

 College Fund

To honor his lifelong dedication to education and philanthropy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a college fund for his beloved daughters. You can make a gift by going here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-wolfgangdonate-to-sophie-olivias-college-fund

[NOTE: YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE FAMILY FOR COLLEGE FUNDING DIRECTLY, BYPASSING GOFUNDME AND THAT PLATFORM'S CUT OF ANY CONTRIBUTIONS - PM ME FOR SPECIFIC DETAILS OF HOW TO MAKE OUT A CHECK AND WHERE TO SEND IT.  BUT IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE VIA GOFUNDME, PLEASE DO AND DON'T LET ME STOP YOU]

Please pray for peace, strength and hope for Julie, Sophie, and Olivia.

The family is planning a memorial service and will have more details soon. It will likely be a few weeks from now.

Feel free to share this with anyone I may have missed.

Thank you for supporting the Niederts.

So, as noted above, if you want specific info on how to send funds for meals via Venmo or how to send money directly to the family, PM me and I'll get you info.  Gimme time to get to your PMs, though.

That's probably for the best.

College fund is doing great. Let's keep it going.

Donated.  Have a granddaughter with same name as his youngest.  RIP, Wolfgang.

Thanks brisket. Fucking insurance I hate those motherfuckers. My term is coming up in either 25 or 26 I think I’m just going to get a new policy now instead of waiting to renew when it expires

Donated to the college fund. I'm not sure how much they need in the short term, but I'm happy to help with food and stuff if needed.

Thanks for putting this together, Brisket.  Let's take care of our own.

Also, whether you contribute or not to the GoFundMe, make sure share the link on whatever social media you are on.

I got an email with another way to help the family:

Immediate Financial Needs for Niederts

There is now a tax-deductible way to give financial support to the Niederts organized by Cord Shiflet with his nonprofit, Cordonate. There are no fees and Cord will match 3% of your gift. Here are the details about it from Cord:

Westlake lost a dear member of our community and we need your help.  On Friday August 30,  Wolfgang Niedert died very unexpectedly leaving behind his wife, a Speech-Language Pathologist teacher throughout Westlake schools, and 2 precious daughters ages 5 and 9 in kindergarten and 4th grade at Cedar Creek Elementary.  Wolfgang’s family has been caught without life insurance and is facing a very tough road ahead.  I’d love to see our community wrap its arms around them and help however we can.

Wolfgang gave a LOT of his time to helping our community serving on Envision Eanes, Long Range Planning Committee and a weekly member of the Westlake Dad’s Club faithfully doing carpool duty every Friday morning—through the horrific heat, the rain and the cold, he was there helping our teachers, staff and kiddos safely to school.  He even captured a squirrel from the CCE cafeteria!

Wolfgang’s family has asked for help and I’m honored we’re in a position to step in.  Please know 103% of what you give will go directly to the family’s immediate needs such as medical bills, property taxes, gift cards for meals, and other pressing necessities. Ben & Courtney Moss will be looking over the contributions to make sure all are properly accounted for.  You can PayPal direct to the 501c3, Cordonate (EIN: 82-4399590). Your contribution is 100% tax deductible.  Please say “Wolfgang” in the Paypal comment so we’ll make sure it’s accounted for properly. No amount is too big or too small.  Every bit helps.  And spreading the word is FREE!  Please share this so we can help this wonderful family in the time of their biggest need.

Thanks for this Brisket.  Happy to help out a good one

Just saw this…I’m gutted.

I probably don’t know many of you fellow miscreants personally but I knew Wolfgang and he was a wonderful person.  A got a email from him last Fall after years of not seeing him, helped him with a product question, and told him if he’s ever in Tulsa, I’d buy him lunch.

Thank you for alerting me to his passing and ways to help.

This sounds great,  as soon as I am well enough to make sense of the details I will be honored to help. In the meantime,  prayers please.

In his honor you can donate a dollar for every word in the average Lobo post. You may need a loan.
