September 4, 20241 yr Popular Post This year I took up rod building. It marries two things I really enjoy: fishing and making shit in the garage. I'm still very new. I've only built two rods from scratch. I've added thread wraps to several rods I already had. Here are some pics:
September 4, 20241 yr nicely done! Those look great. I got into it for a while, but after I built all the rods I'd ever need and even gave away a few, I sorta lost interest in it. Now I fly fish almost exclusively and got into tying most of my own flies instead.
September 4, 20241 yr Nice! What wrapper/dryer do you have? I replaced broken guides and re-wrapped them on 5 or 6 rods last year but haven’t even top coated with epoxy yet.

I still use a casting rod in saltwater and fish about half bait, half lures. I have a saltwater fly rig and I've tied a few saltwater flies. I'm definitely heading the direction of doing that exclusively (if it's not blowing 20 mph). 19 minutes ago, davidg said: Nice! What wrapper/dryer do you have?
