Watch Lioness instead. It’s got the same Sheridan problems but isn’t as insufferable as Landman.

Which I’m still watching.

I'm amazed how many male writers can't write female characters for shit.  David Chase was a notable exception with the Sopranos.

But terrible at writing black people.

If Sheridan would just allow a couple of people in to give notes, I think his shows would improve dramatically.  The premises of all of them are terrific.  But he needs someone to say -- "would that young widower really be calling out Cooper's awkwardness around breast feeding?  Is that something you think women do?  What's the point exactly?"

He writes female characters to what men think they should be like and not how they are.

Taylor Sheridan shows are good out of the gate but fade quickly and become mostly rubbish.

Things Taylor Sheridan likes:
-Miserable men
-Truly awful women
-Quippy dialog that isn’t as clever as he thinks it is
-Drone shots
-Whatever crap is popular on the Sirius country stations these days
-Obscene new-money wealth as a status marker
-Not having technical / industry advisors
-Time-filling shots of people doing…things

This is an entertaining watch but I can't tell you what the overall plot is.

Billy Bob plays a redneck Deadpool character  commenting on a stupefyingly implausible series of situations in a west Texas oil town while occasionally taking a break so Ali Larter can shake her tits at the camera. If her tits need a break before Billy Bob is ready to resume his drawling snark, we get the daughter to shake her tits at us.  Just need to drop the son and replace him with scissors scenes between the lawyer and the bereaved Latina widow and it would be perfect.

Taylor Sheridan basically uses the blacksploitation formula (Superfly, Black Caesar) and applies it to the rural white man.

Another weird criticism but he should dial back the profanity. Specifically the f-bombs. I’m a huge fan of the word fuck, it’s irreplaceable in certain situations, but when it’s every other word it cheapens what could be pretty effective dialog.

Pure lazy writing, IMO. All of his shows have this in it, but this one is definitely over-the-top.

This right here. They are good enough to get you hooked. You know you should quit watching but the urge to finish something you started is too strong. You complain about how crappy it has become but yet you welcome the next episode in order to just get it over with a certain amount of remaining interest and curiosity.

Ali Larter does look really great though. I find the daughter kinda generic, which is probably good since I’m easily old enough to be her dad.

I'm not trying to be an asshole here, but it's in line with folks I know who have worked on pipelines and in O&G, granted most of them were 20/30s vs BBTs old ass but they dropped f bombs a LOT more than necessary.

Dialing them back even like 25 percent would be an improvement though

While she looks great and is perfectly cast for that role, the writing is basically the Beth Dutton character.

I'm infatuated with her belly button.  Its, like, both an outtie and an innie.  It needs further study.

Victor's new girlfriend is a baddy.  Her scene is just a few seconds in the kitchen with Angela.  I can't find any pics of her or even her name in the cast.  It might be Natalie L'Amoreaux listed as Savanah on IMDB, but I can't tell for sure.  I hope she gets some more screen time, but I doubt it since we haven't ever even seen Victor.

How old do you think ol’ girl Sterling is? You actively search her nudes. She’s 28.

So you feel weird about a 27-year old actress, but seek out nudes to post a 28-year old? Little strange, bro.

#279

Lusting for a mid-20’s actress as she depicts a 17 yo girl is a little creepy.  Also creepy laughing at her, “We have a rule,” joke.

Something briefly noted in ep 6, when Angela is speaking with Victor's family law attorney before signing the decree:

Spoiler

Victor offers child support for her daughter after Angela's dissolution. Wonder if that's a sub plot down the line - is Aynsley not Tommy's?

I would say that was just more eye rolling Sheridan scripting, but as BBT pointed out, those guys are low-life criminals....and most criminals are really, really stupid.

Glad to see the Red Clay Strays getting some Sheridan universe love. Was at a party they played about 10 years ago and they are super talented.

What are the chances a Tech QB

- Doesn’t transfer.

- Plays in the Cotton Bowl.

- Plays in the NFL.

Odds have to be in the hundreds of millions. Mahomes is their once in a 100 years QB and he was 13-19 at Tech.
