Also Is let Ali piss all over me. I don’t even fkin care

Really digging this broke ass Friday Night Lights. I miss Mrs.coach Taylor

Me too…

So Andy Garcia is supposed to be on this show and we’re 5 episodes in. If he’s the cartel boss, that’s just extremely lazy, so that’s exactly what Sheridan will do.

Billy Bob has basically outlined Hilcorp’s business model in the last 2 episodes. They also do a fair amount of business in the border counties as well. Let’s say Jon Hamm is a Jeff Hildebrand analog. Can you imagine a guy as legitimate as Jeff meeting with fucking El Mayo or El Chapo?! The Hamm - Garcia is coming. Only in the Sheridan-verse.

Damn, does that ending mean we won't get 15 minutes of somber lawn care again?

And a fucking bizarre refusal to shower afterward. Um, what? Does he have a phobia? What the fuck, man?! Who doesn't shower after lawn work? The character looks like Pig-Pen in every scene.

This show is so weird. I'm convinced Sheridan uses AI to churn out this schlock.

Why was that dude STANDING and WALKING on the dangerously mismatched pile of pipes he was complaining about? He was behaving like an NPC in a video game with bugged pathing.

Then Billy Bob - instead of asking one of the thirty dudes standing around for a phone, he meanders to his truck to borrow the wife's.

Then my favorite part of the scene - calls 911 and says "I have a white male in his 30's" like he's reporting a crime to police.

Yeah, he wasn't going anywhere.

I'm enjoying the show, but as others have said, it is way over the top.  I'm not sure about the timeline, but in his first couple of weeks (days?) on the job, Pig Pen sees his fellow workers blown up/incinerated, another guy lose a hand, and he may have been beaten to death by some assholes that can't control their testosterone.  And the lady lawyer was something else.  Her slander threat was laughable . . . and it worked!

Come on. It's funny/odd he wouldn't even shower after yard work. And I'm pretty sure he didn't go to work in this episode.

Yes..I've never worked in O&G. I can imagine guys who work out in the heat on oil rigs all day get sweaty and dirty. I also imagine they do take showers.

This thread needs more pics of Larter

It's like watching the Avengers.  There's no reality to the story and lots of the action; but there's this (at least for me) entertaining collision of normal people, absurd people, real places, and absurd things that happen alongside daily life... and I'm just gonna let myself sit back and be entertained by that.

I'm a homesick Texan; I like the setting and lots of other details people have mentioned:  As a son of a Permian football player and grandson of west Texas oil man, I like it.  Plus BBT casting (Friday Night Lights) and Larter (Varsity Blues) makes this a slice of nostalgia pie.  Oh and not to forget the credits music that is very similar to Explosions in the Sky from FNL movie.

Based on the end of the last episode, not sure what to make of the PigPen's status.  Wouldn't be surprised either way.  But you could see it coming a mile away when Ariana told him to never miss a family meal - you never know which one will be your last.

Garcia is going to be Ali Larter's hotelier husband I am pretty sure...  that just makes sense to me given she's on here way to Ft. Worth as well.   Separately....

Spoiler

Demi Moore's character in IMDB had last name "Norris" I think I saw at some point (not anymore).  Billy Bob's sister?  She has had fuck all to do, but I think she'll be more involved in the back half of the season.

Deadline has Garcia’s character name as Galino. https://deadline.com/2024/05/andy-garcia-landman-taylor-sheridan-paramount-plus-1235902249/amp/

Sounds like a made up Sheridan cartel name. And Victor is the name of Ali’s current husband on the show. Billy Bob has also described him as a fat ATM. While Andy Garcia is far from yoked, I wouldn’t describe him as fat.

I saw some stuff about him being seen in Ft Worth or looking for him in FW which makes me think maybe it's the second husband vs cartel?

Not that it matters that much but he's Cuban, not Mexican so hopefully Sheridan won't do the whole lazy he's a Mexican cartel leader thing?

When he was offered that opportunity to shower I was wondering what clothes he was supposed to wear after the shower. Put on the same filthy clothes and sweaty underwear?

You were so close to being right. The correct answer is Herd's.

Dated a girl from Jacksboro.  This is correct.  (Dairyland is pretty solid, too.)

Watched the first episode yesterday, appreciate the Loving reference.

I have not been able to get into this, hot daughters and wives not withstanding. My opinion, Tommy is basically Bad Santa as an oil man.

It probably doesn’t matter. In Garcia’s most famous roles, he portrayed Italians.

Recognize this TV and motion picture character actor seen in many American Indian roles?

Things Taylor Sheridan likes:
-Miserable men
-Truly awful women
-Quippy dialog that isn’t as clever as he thinks it is
-Drone shots
-Whatever crap is popular on the Sirius country stations these days
-Obscene new-money wealth as a status marker
-Not having technical / industry advisors
-Time-filling shots of people doing…things

Feel free to add yours!

His Sicario-Wind River-Hell or High Water run was great though.

Easily the funniest thing on the show is Tommy’s contact pic of Ange in his phone.

What about a Puerto Rican as a Mexican prosecutor?

Likely because he had time constraints being they were movies.  Giving a show and it's just a listless plot going nowhere.  Entertaining TV, though.

“All right, then buy a toothbrush on the way home..”

Show is a guilty pleasure. But I miss half of each episode rolling my eyes.

Pros: Billy Bob is great and going for it, so I appreciate that. The general premise and setting is cool, plus the show looks good.

But the plot, and especially the dialogue is absolute shit.

And, while I certainly appreciate the plentiful eye candy, everything to do with the female characters is pure schlock.

I haven’t watched any other Sheridan shows before. This is not convincing me to change that.

Sheridan musta had a rough upbringing and serious mommy issues.

I'm amazed how many male writers can't write female characters for shit.  David Chase was a notable exception with the Sopranos.

The fucking API or whatever petroleum group ad that runs 2-3 times an episode looks like an SNL parody it's so bad.

Jesus. Aledo to Midland is 300+ miles. That’s a long ass drive not knowing if your kid is OK.

I don’t get the cousin beat down. Ariana’s options are stripping and/or hooking. They should throw Cooper a goddamn parade for taking her off their hands. But yeah, I’ll concede the male mind doesn’t always work that way.

Jesus Christ yall fucking bitch about every fucking show in this forum lol. it’s TV. Entertainment. It’s not based on a true story lol

20 plus years in the military and every military movies show I watch is full of absolute unbelievable dogshit. But then I’m reminded it’s tv to entertain and not meant to be an accurate portrayal.

Wait, I thought this was based on a true story from Texas Monthly. But it was nice for them clarify he is a General Manager and not a Landman.

The only commonality between the podcast and Landman is truck traffic and man camps.  The other 99% is Sheridan winging it.

I have to hand it to the casting director.... other than the two older Mexican widows, I cannot remember a female on the show that isnt a fucking smoke show.... even Demi.

and got damn Ali plays the mostly clueless but completely self-absorbed MILF to perfection.

That scene of her in the car losing her shit because her new/old man told her straight up that he had an emergency call he had to take and hung up on her for 5 mins was classic.   followed by the next conversation telling her that the reason she was put on hold was that her baby boy was possibly on deaths door.

They have already pointed out that that character literally cannot handle being poor.... how the fuck is she going to transition from an unlimited monthly credit card allowance to being a GM/Landman's wife again who maybe makes $500k a year and owes that much in debt?

She's like aggy.  Loves the rollercoaster until she don't....

Not going to come on and thread shit so this will be it.   I don't like it. I liked the Pena and family scenes.  Couldn't take yellowstone anymore and made it through about 3 episodes of this.

Yeah, I enjoyed the opener, but after a couple more eps, it's just a parody of everything.  And the oilfield errors are hard to take; the legal mumbo jumbo is just as bad but we're used to it.  Not even Billy Bob can save this.

Someone needs to lock Sheridan in a closet for a year or two.

And don't let him out until he has a good Sicario 3 treatment.

A lot to bitch about with this show, but I'll go in a different direction.

Everybody needs a buddy like fuckin Dale

"You got any plans tonight?" Not until you give em to me

I watched ~3 seasons of Yellowstone before it became too absurd and I had to bail. Just terrible, lazy writing. Awful characters and a meandering plot.

I watched 1883 and Mayor of Kingstown and they were better but still sloppy and frustrating to watch. I kind of swore off Taylor Sheridan after that.

Is there any reason I should even start Landman or is it more of the same? I don’t care if Ali Larter is still hot because literally every show has hot women and some of them also have good plots. My BIL said Landman is good and now my wife is curious but I don’t trust his TV recs.
