If a defender gets suspended for three games for that, they need to change the sliding rules to disincentivize QBs waiting until the last second to slide

Also him essentially getting a month off, while hurting the defense over that stretch, would allow him to rest and would potentially get some other LBs some playing time (Harris, White) to hopefully get acclimated in the defense

The letter mentions that it's three games in part due to him being a repeat offender, which makes more sense

That specific play should merit a 0 game suspension with hefty fine, not three games

Rex on it, too. I think bad play by Azeez but slide rule is an issue that needs a look. Seen QBs fake the slide, past weekend saw Mayfield slide about a 1/4 second before contact and get up asking ref for flag, who emphatically shook his head no at Mayfield and Baker pouted.

Rex makes a lot of sense here.  I also agree there needs to be an augmentation to the rule that allows the running-oriented QBs to exploit the rule (Allen and Mahomes are some of the examples).

Rex looks tan and rested.  I wonder if he has been retread too many times to be considered again as a coach - not likely in the offense-oriented hiring that's been going on, but pairing him with a young up-and-coming OC might be interesting.

There's been some chatter that the NYJ could return to the well, either with him or Mangini

The forearm to the head probably had something to do with it as well.

I had a bad feeling that Azeez turning into a rabid animal and having to be literally dragged off the field would have an effect on his punishment. Still, didn’t think three games, that’s a shit ton.

He also never got punished for punching Roschon

It'll get appealed down to two games, but I'm more than fine with him resting up. This team is really beat up, and they're locked into either the 3 or 4 seed

Caserio makes a good point about team contact with a suspended player.  Azeez may indeed need some support, etc. and the Texans can do that.

That said, he's not in such a bad situation if he (1) did not have a history of this type of play (4 fines in the recent past) and (2) he did not go bananas afterwards.

Here’s Runyon’s bullshit sermon

I posted here yesterday that I wouldn’t be mad about a suspension and fine in this case and I’m still not. I do think two games is more consistent with recent history in the NFL, but I’m not going to lose any sleep about it. What I do think is BS is Runyan’s over the top reprimand that does nothing to attempt to lower the temperature and instead appears to be stoking the flames. Caserio also makes a really good point with regards to the hypocrisy of supporting players.

Fine with the suspension and hefty fine, still think it aught to be 2 games but whatever. The sanctimonious bullshit from the league is frustrating but not unexpected either, dude had history of aggressive play and left no benefit of the doubt, which is fine. What I would ask the league if I had an unlimited question is what are they gonna do about QB's who abuse the slide rule like Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen do:

Need to outlaw the fake slide somehow, it's hard enough to play defense in the NFL this is just flat out unfair when the QB can make all the defenders pull-up with a fake slide and then keep running with no consequences.

light him up until he stops doing it

Fuck this. Suspensions like his are typically reduced somewhat on appeal. The NFL is simply using Azeez as an example.

- the ex player handling the appeal apparently does radio and sidelines reporting for the titans, the team that hates Houston the most

- I think Al-Shamir not leaving the field in a timely fashion was probably held against him

- I think Ryan’s and caserio’s public statements probably didn’t help

It’s bullshit, but the NFL has never been consistent or logical with player punishment since Goodell has been running the show

This.  Felt like the Texans went to the Chris Beard School of Post-Scandal Management.  If Ryans and Caserio and Azeez were much more apologetic and contrite instead of defiant, it probably gets reduced.  Texans looked pretty bad with their response.

I think they did it for a reason. They're trying to rally the team around this and hoping it'll help them gel for the stretch run

Kinda disagree, they’re showing they are willing to stick up for their guy.  Players around the league will take notice of how the organization feels about their players.

Can’t stand that dude but gotta give him credit for mostly keeping his fingers out of the Rockets and letting them build a decent and young team.

These stats and bottom of the league ranking matches the eye test

can we sign guys out of the portal ???

If Fisher shows he can man RT next year that would allow them to move Tytus to LT and jettison the penalty machine in the offseason. Howard actually has looked better at LT over the few starts he’s had there than at RT or G over the course of his career…

While I don’t think he’s worth the money, Tunsil is still a good LT. And he seems to have gotten the penalties under control after a disastrous September.

Didn’t love that 3rd and 1 call especially if you’re not planning to go for it on 4th down

Wasn’t that another drop tackle on mixon?

Mixon’s out….meaning our offense is screwed.

Therein lies the problem.

Bullshit roughing the passer penalty

It's the rule that's bullshit, but that was a penalty.
