The Texans have agreed to terms with DT Sheldon Rankins on a one-year deal, worth up to $7 million, per source.

Rankins spent 2023 in Houston before a year in Cincinnati, but now returns to DeMeco Ryans’ defense.

#Texans reach a one-year, $2 million deal with wide receiver Braxton Berrios, per a league source.

Also returns KO’s and punts.  Missed most of last season with a torn ACL.  Good pickup.

The full terms:
-- A 2nd rounder and a fourth rounder next year to the #Texans, plus a third rounder this year.
-- Houston sends back a fourth rounder and Laremy Tunsil.

2nd and 4th next year, we swap our 4th for their 3rd this year

HUGE!! Get the fuck out Laremy. The OL much less the entire offense couldn’t be SWARM with Laremy and the other losers polluting Demeco’s message.

How much cap does that free up? Has to be pretty significant given how overpaid he was.

Also got a 2025 7th

"Laremy Tunsil trade will create $13.85 million in cap savings. And saved the Texans $42.7 million in cash over two years."

What are the Texans going to do without all those false starts?

Hope this means they have a serious plan to fix the oline

The 2025 3rd is the Philadelphia pick I believe, which is pick #96

The Tunsil trade is a cap management deal as much as anything. They have 3 mega extensions coming up in the next 2 years. Stingley, Stroud and Anderson are going to be expensive.

He was a below average run blocker and led league in penalties. Second in league in pass pro.

Commanders must re-sign him to a top-10 deal after next year and hope he plays like it at 31 and older. I'm pretty surprised we didn't get more in the '25 draft, because we must now use new draft capital to trade up and/or draft a OT and a OG with two of first four picks and they both must hit and play in year 1. If not, we will be burning Stroud rookie clock. For that reason, I think we should've gotten more.

Risky trade by both sides, which is generally riskier for the team giving up capital for a player who must keep being that player. I hope Caserio and Ryans (and I guess new OC) have a plan to sign FAs and like what they see in the draft. Caserio & Ryan's have done well to this point so I'll give them the benefit.

Per Nate Tice, Tunsil was about league average this year on one on one pressure rate at about 10%, which was the worst year of his career

Last year was his second worst, which was also near league average

Obviously not what you’re paying top dollar for

Hopefully this means that the staff has confidence in Blake Fisher, given that we used a 2nd rounder on him last year. Really need to sign one quality interior starter with this $…

Tunsil is going to want a top three deal

I saw the “2nd in pass pro” metric spreading around, but Tice’s (which I’m guessing comes from SIS) rings more true to me

Trade up for Kelvin Banks and plug him in at LT immediately.

the sack and td play vs tOSU scares me. his run blocking needs to be closely looked at too.

biggest play of the year and he looked like a guy off the street. let ewers get killed

I think you are confusing Banks with Cam Williams (who is the tackle that got embarrassed on that play)

well then, i had it wrong

banks is going top 6 i bet

I don’t know if Kupp is washed or not, but the Rams put out that they are about to cut him. This could be a Joe Mixon opportunity where you swap 7th rounders and get Kupp, whose 2025 cap number to the new team is only $5m.

I’m good with it as long the Texans don’t extend him.

If they're hoping for an OT in the draft to play day one, the possibilities appear to be Banks, Conerly, Simmons, and Ersery. They might need to trade ahead of Minnesota for some of these guys, who also needs OL help in the draft. Trading up in this draft should be relatively cheap compared to past drafts. I do wonder if there appearing to be potential OT(s) either at #25 or in a short trade up from #25 available was a factor here

If the plan is to sign or trade for a stop gap veteran at tackle, or to play Tytus and Fisher there, they could sign another second round toolsy developmental project like Cam Williams or Charles Grant

I think it's clear that they didn't want to pay Tunsil his next contract. His current contract is actually probably a good value the next two years, but he's going to want a top of the market extension. They could have waited and traded him after next season and had a LT in place for another year, or they could have played him the next two seasons and gotten the comp pick down the road while potentially dealing with him being upset about not getting extended, but I guess they wanted to go ahead and get the draft assets while ripping off the Band-Aid now

If we bring in any OL in free agency before the draft, I'm curious to see if they profile as athletic OZ types that you typically see in a Shanahan/Kubiak offense or the larger bullies that McVay has brought in lately

"Another Texans trade: Houston is acquiring veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Eagles in exchange for former first-round pick Kenyon Green, per

and me. Trade includes a pick swap with the Eagles getting a 2026 5th-round pick and the Texans getting a 2026 6th."

Fangio to DeMeco should be a smooth transition at safety

I guess we’re playing 7 on 7 this year. But seriously what’s the plan? Lots of snaps to replace on the o-line

My guess is they bring in a couple of bargain swing tackles, draft a tackle in the first round (Banks, Ersery, Simmons, Conerly), and then draft a guard in either round 2 or 3 (I'd look at trading up for Donovan Jackson in round 2), and have the two rookies compete with the vet swing guys

The plan is quite clear to those paying attention to happenings in Houston, and the buffet table on the Brazos. The Texans are clearing roster space and acquiring draft capital for a singular and brilliant purpose: Acquiring Chase Bisontis in the 2026 NFL draft.

Trade! The #Eagles are sending standout S CJ Gardner-Johnson to the #Texans for first-round G Kenyon Green, per me and @MikeGarafolo. It’s a Green and a 2026 5th for CJGJ and a 2026 6th.

Another intriguing piece to the Houston back end, while Philly adds OL depth.

open OL try outs later this week

It’s pretty clear where management thought the problems were last year. It also seems that maybe the guys shipped out don’t match the blocking scheme of the new OC.

Sign Will Hernandez, Brandon Scherff and Jedrick Wills. Then draft best available OL in 2nd and 3rd rounds. Get CJ a weapon in the 1st.

Between Stingley, CGJ, Bullock, and Lassiter, Houston has some ballhawks in the secondary
