Seriously, it’s what, 58? She’s at 41 and we haven’t hit conf play yet. If she has an average HR season (18 or so), that’s 11 more and puts her at 52 before her senior year. And 18 feels low for her. Shes at 7 already

Not that I'm going to predict it, but Stewie is physically quite capable of breaking 58 as well. Where either player ends up her career obviously is highly dependent on health, but protection in the lineup also matters. While Reese has benefited a bit more from that than Stewie has, if Goode and others can keep hitting well, both sluggers could reach big HR numbers these next two years.

I'm also interested in where they end up in career RBIs. Having a relatively short softball history with a woeful lack of hitting for many of those years, Texas has no players anywhere near the top of the national RBI records. As best, I can tell, Reese figures to become our first member of the 200 RBI club. And unless we have an unexpected dropoff in recruiting elite bats, Stewie might even eclipse her.

@Js1, do you know where to find Texas career stats? All I've located so far is a hodgepodge of random numbers, mostly for single seasons.

Something that is underrated right now. Mike's call to have the runner steal second during the intentional walk. It would've been easy to just leave her at first...Reese is being walked anyway, what's

The fact book has career stats - starts on page 48

Stewie’s rbi problem is how often Reese clears the bases right before she hits. For 3 years.

imagine she got to hit with mia and/or Henry on base instead or nobody or atwood. And had atwood hitting behind her for protection.

I am VERY interested to see undefeated SoCar at OU this weekend

First World "problem" right there. I mean, Gehrig behind Ruth worked out OK.

Stewie does lose some RBI opportunities being right behind another slugger, but nobody's to complain  about that. Overall she's in an extremely good situation. Reese has cleared the bases 7 times but has 15 other hits and 18 free passes (4 of those via HBP). I'm not sure how often Reese might also have reached base on errors. Anyway, it's all been adding up to a lot of chances for Stewie to drive in multiple runs, and she's certainly been coming through. May it continue as the real games begin.

Reese with 2 full seasons + 21 games = 41 HR, 164 RBI in 144 games

Stewie with 1 full season + 21 games = 19 HR, 95 RBI in 83 games

Stewie's projected numbers in 144 games: 33 HR, 164 RBI.  But worth noting that Stewie's rookie year was better than Atwood's (Atwood 11 HR, 43 RBI vs. Stewie's 13 HR, 58 RBI)

Also as much as I like Goode (I do!), my ideal lineup would be

Maloney
Henry
Scott
Atwood
Stewie
Mitchell
Goode
Hunter/Quiroga/Brister/Katie C
Bennett

I think that 8 spot is just going to be an offensive black hole this season - hoping Mitchell and Goode can get on base for the 8th spot to just move them over.

Considering Mitchell is hitting .435, I'd rather have her behind Stewie and not Goode.

The two new position players this year (Bennett and Brister) bring very little to the plate, which is shocking to me for a MW team.  LG has hit better and fielded worse than I expected this year.

Bennett is hitting .348 in her first season at a P4 school. In the 9 hole. Also drawn 8 walks in the 9 hole to turn the lineup over. No major issues with her offensively

Yeah she’s a speedy slapper. She’s going to hit way more infield singles than doubles. She’s a downgrade from Bella, but similar from a speed standpoint

Her job is to turn over the lineup.  Infield single, bunt, walk, whatever. So far, so good.

Just like baseball, way too early to worry about RPI, but Texas checks in at #10 in the first official RPI of the season

https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d1/ncaa-womens-softball-rpi

The top 3 ranked teams in the country are 26th, 10th and 5th lol

But we do have a road win over #4 already (Arizona) and 2 wins over #17 (Tech) and Ohio State next Monday is #14

Reminder that we dive back into Big 12 play, err, wait, no, we play our 3rd Big 12 non-conf game against Baylor tomorrow night (6pm on SECN+) before we head to Columbus for the weekend (2 games Sat, 1 game Sunday, 2 games Monday) to close out our weekend non-conf slate.  We still play a couple midweek non-conf games (SFA, TXST, @OKST)

Agreed. Her only job is to get on base and get back to the top of the order. When her and Maloney are on base, this team is lethal because Henry and Scott can do so many different things offensively. Speed is deadly in this game because it puts so much pressure on the defense to make a play. Combine that with the fact that the defense is trying to make plays while also having to play in and it becomes even more deadly.

You know who has NOT been a downgrade from Bella in LF?  Stewie.

I've been impressed so far.  Good speed and range.  Hasn't had to make any circus or diving catches (that I've seen or remember) so far, but she's been solid and seems to read the ball off the bat well.

Interesting that quiroga gets the dp job.

When Reese, Joley and Stewie are all in the field, someone has to be DP.

Her, Katie C or Vic Hunter are the options

I guess my point was they don’t all need to be in the field, while the player most likely to be on the bench from game to game is not.  I know she had a tough go of catching last season, but hopefully she could play 1b or LF.

Kind of weird being “off” the first weekend of SEC play but getting to see aggy/Florida and OU/SoCar will be cool

Aggy/Florida - all games on SECN+
6pm Friday, 4pm Saturday, noon Sunday

OU/SoCar - Friday/Sat on SECN+ and Sunday on SEC Network

6:30, 2pm, 1:30

I hate this Ohio State tournament, for mostly because only the Ohio State game is on TV, the times are awful and no Friday night Texas softball (but no softball overlap with WBB's QF game in the SEC tournament)

Saturday - 8am (!!) versus Saint Francis (7-12)
Saturday - 10:30am versus Oakland (4-7)
Sunday - 9am (!!) versus Merrimack (0-5)
Monday - 11am versus Dayton (8-6)
Monday - 3pm versus RV Ohio State (13-4-1) on Big 10 Network

Ohio State has 2 wins over Missouri (7-2) and Georgia (7-0) and their 4 losses and 1 tie were FSU (9-1 in 5), Bama (9-5), Clemson (11-3 in 6), UCF (4-4 tie) and Georgia (7-6). Looks like they can hit it (.337 BA, 31 HR, .610 SLG%, but already have 100 strikeouts) but their pitching is ass (3.65 team ERA, led by Lorin Boutte's 2.65 ERA)

If Mike calls me up, I'd say you go Big Mac and Cit on Saturday, Cam on Sunday, Cit and TK on Monday.  Ain't no reason the first 4 games shouldn't be run-rules.

Little chilly in Columbus for those game times -

Saturday, will be just above freezing for the Saint Francis game (33 degrees and sunny) and around 40 for the Oakland game
Sunday, right around 39 and sunny
Monday, low-40s for the Dayton game and then in the low 60s for the Ohio State game

33 and sunny feels great if there’s no wind.  No idea about wind in Columbus.  Low humidity also helps.
