I'm curious, has a #1 national seed ever failed to advance to the super regionals?

Will always be thankful 2025 aggy overshadowed our two national seeded teams who didn’t even make the regional final at home (2010 Texas, 7 seed and 2011 Texas, 3 seed)

How Clark kept her job after that, I will not know. 3 straight years with a national seed (7, 3, 6) and didn’t make OKC

Something that is underrated right now. Mike's call to have the runner steal second during the intentional walk. It would've been easy to just leave her at first...Reese is being walked anyway, what's

Back when it happened, they said it had not happened since 1991.  The format was different then, and I can't figure out who was the national #1.

Yeah smaller tournament, no supers. They didn’t move to super regionals until 2005, so it was really weird pre-2000 with the format. Used to be geographic, so you’d have regionals with Texas/OU/aggy in the same regional in the Cat years

Used to only be like 16-32 teams, then 48, then the current 64.

looking at those scores is aggy the only team to get run ruled in the final game?

In 1997 Arizona beat UCLA 10-2 in 5 innings.

It's a damn good thing Mac didn't pile on the dogpile. Otherwise Texas would be starting from scratch next year.

Episode 4 Greasy Buffoons GIF by SpongeBob SquarePants

The Longhorns' early explosion also offered some justification for White’s move to use Kavan in a brief relief role in a 4-3 loss in Game 2. White took some online heat for resting Kavan while the Red Raiders rode Canady to a series-tying win, but Kavan looked plenty fresh Friday.

“Saving Teagan for this opportunity, obviously it paid off,” White said. “The players can make you look good in those decisions.”

2000 Oklahoma remains the last team to win the title in their first WCWS appearance

2000 Oklahoma was, I believe, the last team before 2025 Texas to win the title, despite not winning their conference regular season or conference tournament

The lowest seeded team before 6-seed Texas to win the title was 10-seed OU in 2017

Also suck it to all the SEC schools who failed to bring a title back to the conference in the past decade. Texas had to do it for you (and not OU!)

Ou 2000 and 2017 in OKC as well?

That's what I was thinking. Let's sign their kids but don't even think about redshirting them. Play them before their knees explode.

For what? 2017 OU did win the Big 12 regular season and tournament. They still got seeded 10th

Since 1989, except for 1996 when it was at the Olympic venue in Georgia for the 1996 Olympics

If the intentional walk were executed and Texas loses game 1, TK pitches game 2 and we probably win that, since we got some adjustments on Canady.

It took a billion errors for Tech to score off TK yesterday. They are lucky we lost focused or it’s 10-1 (5)

Actually interesting to see if Tech won game 1, goes Tech sit NC and go for the win on Friday with her rested, while Texas was either pitching day 3 TK or Mac to start.

Remember in next year’s thread when “does it matter how many pitches a pitcher throws in softball?” comes up that, yes, it actually does eventually fucking matter.

7 complete games in 14 days, going up against the same team for the third consecutive day. In the heat and humidity of OKC. This ain’t 2010 anymore where teams hit 60-70 HR for the season and that was considered elite.

Ironically, Glasco built a team that would have won back to back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Before Gasso changed the game offensively.

Just assuming that they win game 1 of they successfully walk Atwood is folly. Bases loaded and down by 1.  Not exactly an unwinnable position for Texas.

I’m far from a softball expert but I wonder if it’s more the familiarity of seeing the same pitcher three days in a row than fatigue that gets us to where the Horns put up a first-inning five-spot last night. It’s probably a little Column A and a little Column B.

If it’s true that Scott came into the dugout saying her rise is flat, then yes that’s fatigue.  I don’t know if thats thrown with spin or if that’s just their term for a fastball since the release point is low so it goes up, but something wasn’t the same for her and  it probably affected all of her pitches.

Ewwww.

I could be misremembering but I could have sworn I heard one of the announcers say Canady’s spin rate had dropped significantly last night. So yea I’d say she fatigued/ Texas hitters adjusted really well.

It's thrown with spin.  A rise is a different pitch from a standard fastball, with a different grip. Most girls are taught to feel like they are putting backspin on the ball, to keep it up in the air, fighting gravity.  In actuality, most good rises have bullet spin.  Here's our ace, Dolcini, from a few years ago throwing one where you can really see the spin.

We need a rent-an-infield

Joley gone (not a stellar defensive series for her) and replaced with Stewie, portal or freshman

Goode shifts back to 2B

Vivi back at SS

KB out of the infield

Stewie, freshman or portal for 3B

Cool. So you really have to get your fingers under the ball and snap your wrist to get that backspin.  Not too different than curve and screw, really.  And she throws a screw too, so that’s the same palm out motion.

I wonder if goode has or can play 3b.  Stewie doesn’t have the quickest to play it well, imo.  If Goode can play it, maybe a 2b is the easier portal find.

I still hope we are going after or going to get Tallon Edwards from OKST. Doesn’t have Mia’s bat but matches her defensive abilities

Blaire Luna made an entire All American career out of a rise ball. That thing was filthy at times

Glasco said basically the same thing in his press conference…admitted he plans on working on having more pitchers pitch and not over-using Canady…as it was a factor in the loss….said our players seeing her for a 3rd day was also a big factor.

Mia was one hit away from the Texas record for BA in a season. If she had one more hit instead of a walk or out, she’d have it. Will tie with Janae for a .446 season average
