Will tie with Janae for a .446 season average So Impressive. With two knees she might actually have done it. Seriously, I can't imagine Mia's right knee is mangled, but still. The fact she didn't appear to even favor it is one of the wildest things I've seen in athletic competition. Move it on over, Kerri Strug.

IIRC, Joe neuwendyk played the Stanley cup playoffs for Dallas with a torn acl in 1999 when they won the cup. No idea what the specifics are of some of these injuries that allow for continued use/play before surgery.

Mia’s development is a testament to what Stewie could eventually be. She got the arm for sure. My portal priorities: Lefty pitcher 1B/DP Potentially another OF I'm not saying it would happen but if we had a good enough lineup that Stewart could be DP that would be the ultimate. I'd rather have more speed in the outfield. Even though 1B/3B are much different than SS Stewart playing infield obviously hurt her hitting. she does have a great arm but think about being able to afford having Stewart play DP because you are so solid everywhere else. Maybe she doesn't play DP all the time and spot plays at 1B and OF.

June 7Jun 7 Zero earned runs. The leaking you are speaking of was the defense. Last night in the top of the 5th, the team was on the mound and I said TK is probably telling the infielders “I’m going to murder each of you except for you, MFS… MFS , you are welcome to watch or join in… your choice. “

Maybe she doesn't play DP all the time and spot plays at 1B and OF. Logical. And maybe that happens. But with Henry in CF, along with expected additions to the IF, I suspect next year we'll see Stewie in LF a ton. She might never have a defensive inning to match the 7th last night (who ever does?), but I'd be surprised if her arm and courage don't keep her out there. That big bat is a given.
June 7Jun 7 Stewie can play left just fine it seems. We can cheat Henry if needed as mentioned above, and the number of plays that she wouldn’t make that a quicker outfielder would make is a small number. Edited June 7Jun 7 by Pato del Muerto
June 7Jun 7 For how many errors there were on the infield, the outfield did a pretty good job this season- the combination of Maloney, Henry, and Stewart in the outfield had only one error
June 7Jun 7 Didn't Stewart play some first last year? I don't remember much about her not being able to get it done there. She won't need the range there that she needs at short....and no throws to 1B if you are playing it. I know she played some 3rd as well. Another year of offseason workouts and S&C would do her well. Hopefully she doesn't blow up. Edited June 7Jun 7 by HuntinHorn

And yet he would have been crucified if he had not started her in either the 2nd or 3rd game and gave up a bunch of runs, despite all the chirping about how she was tired. He was in a can't win situation.

Nieuwendyk tore his ACL after a dirty hit by Bryan Marchment in the first game of the first series of the 1998 playoffs and missed the rest of the Stars' run that year. His recovery forced him to miss the beginning of the 1998-99 season but played the entire '99 playoffs and won the Conn Smythe as the Stars hoisted the Cup. Modano, however, played several of the Finals games against Buffalo with a broken wrist IIRC.

June 7Jun 7 Popular Post I can't tell y'all just how much I have enjoyed watching and listening to these ladies play this year. Starting out the season #1, winning 23 of the first 24, losing our first game to a Stanford team in an Arizona tournament. We got into SEC play and didn't lose again until mid March against a #2 Florida, but won 2/3 from them at their house...still playing well, then lost 2/3 to Tenn Vols against the fastest throwing pitcher on the planet...but bounced back by winning 2/3 against a top 10 LSU team....then got our butts whooped by getting swept in Norman...always tough for us...went limping into the SEC tourney only to get bounced by a #1 aggy team (the highlight of their year) 14-2....time to regroup....came back to win the Regional by winning 3 straight....then in came Clemson to give us a fit, losing our 1st game and had to win twice...down one game, trailing late with Clemson baserunners 2 & 3 no outs, and on the brink of being eliminated....but survived and won 2/3! Wow. Then to the WCWS to knock out Florida, OU (a hump we were finally able to get over), then had to face Tenn Vols again, and won and on to the finals to take 2/3 from Tech. Just an unbelievable season that we will remember forever. Such a wonderful sports year for these young ladies who said over and over how much they loved each other, worked hard together, pumped up each other and really appreciated Mike White's coaching and support. I've had more fun watching and posting and hoping that winning the World Series would happen, but there were no guarantees. Loved the play of Mia and Teagan, Stewie, Henry and the others...having to survive the loss at shortstop and watching Mike try Stewie there, only to move her back to LF. Don't know how many posters wanted Mike's head for making numb scull decisions, and all who knew they could coach better....yea, right. Anyhow, really enjoyed the posts here (most...not all) and Js1's contributions....a women's sport's book of knowledge...hope next year can duplicate and we can repeat. Waking up this morning with a National Championship was great. Now, I'll watch some men's baseball and root against LSU, Tenn, and Arky....maybe I'll pull for UTSA...enjoyed the season.
