Florida 2B Mia Williams officially to Tech

She had 2 singles in 3 games against TK this year. Just sayin’. 2 hitless games against The GOAT

Coahoma’s Hannah Wells wipes away a tear after her team beat Lexington in the Class 3A Division II state championship game May 29. Wells, a Texas signee, led her squad to the first three consecutive state softball titles in Texas. She was recently named the Gatorade state player of the year.

Hannah Wells, a centerpiece of Texas softball’s 2025 recruiting class, was namedGatorade’s softball player of the year for the state of Texas on Monday after leading Coahoma to a record third consecutive state championship.

Wells pitches and plays shortstop for Coahoma, a Class 3A Division II school outside of Big Spring in West Texas that became the first school to win three consecutive UIL state championships.

She capped a prodigious prep career by compiling a 22-1 record in the circle with a 0.49 ERA with 258 strikeouts and 31 walks in 1272⁄ 3 innings. She also hit .602 with 31 home runs and 75 RBIs.

For her four-year high school career, Wells had a 77-3 record, a 0.75 ERA and 879 strikeouts. At the plate she hit .591 with 86 home runs, 253 RBIs and 171 runs.

Texas coach Mike White expects her to primarily pitch for the Longhorns but has indicated she could see some at-bats.

“Hannah has a variety of pitches in her arsenal and home run power at the plate,” White said in Novemberwhen his program signed seven players as part of its 2025 class.

Ranked fifth in the nation by Softball America, the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class also features catcher Anne Wallace, outfielder Alisa Sneed, infielder Jaycie Nichols, infielder Aundrea Wilson, middle infielder Caigan Crabtree and middle infielderMaTaia Lawson. All seven signees are ranked as fourstar recruits by On3.

The Longhorns won their first national championship last week by beating Texas Tech in the finals of the Women’s CollegeWorld Series.

Tech softball 2026 - sick of being second place

Next year is going to be fun between OU, Texas, and Texas Tech. This is also setting up for massive failure on Tech's part. They will be better next season but they also aren't going to get the luck they did in the postseason with favorable draws.

Yes sir.  Kind of just tying Spring sports together and my loss of the LHN.

Hook’em!!!

Aside from Canady, wonder what their 2026 softball spend is going to be? By the time their season starts, the donors will know if their football spree bore enough fruit.

Texas fans (not here) are extremely insecure about Tech and Glasco. He’s not going to take over college softball because a mega donor paid $1m for Canady. If he doesn’t win it all next year, they’re never going to.

And what Tech does not affect Texas. I highly doubt they’re going to drop a million on a star pitcher every single season for the next decade.

Mike has a ring to flash and a team of players he developed on his recruiting resume. Glasco has a team a donor paid for and one pitcher dragged it the finals

If they do it's not going to be somebody as good as Canady. This is why this isn't sustainable. Players like Canady are rarely going to be available.

And all of these players choosing Tech right now want to win a ring in her last year. They didn’t choose Tech because they love Lubbock and  Glasco and the world class education at Tech

What happens if they don’t win one next year?

Should probably lock this up & start an offseason one. Don't want the last couple pages of a National Champ thread to mostly be about another school.

Find a cool pic to end it on.

Final thoughts for this thread: I've never been so glad to be wrong about the shortcomings of a coaching staff. On to 2026!

It won't keep Tech from waving a wad of money at a good-to-great pitcher to entice them to sign....like this year....they definitely got their $$ worth this year....won't be like this every year.

Have you been to that MFng dust bowl?  Nobody would willingly move to MFng Lubbock!  There are worse places in Texas, but you can’t count to five before Lubbock comes into play.

Hook’em!!!

Mike White needs to come down and recruit at the now 3 time Class 4A champion.  I mean Reese went to neighboring school and our rival, so we can’t be too bad.

I don't think softball has enough juice for an entire offseason thread.  And I don't like to start the 2026 season thread until we get the schedule and/or the SEC preseason projections are published.

We are talking about Tech because Tech is the most active right now in the portal and we just played them for the title.  We are still 4 days from the portal closing, so I think keeping it here is fine.

Just waiting to see who we get and if anyone leaves. A certain someone appears to be loafing her way to the portal, just like she did to first base so many times.

Also Tech is rebuilding their roster around Canady to make a second title run in Canady's last year of college ball, which means new faces, new roles, etc. That doesn't always equal a title (see: Texas Volleyball 2024) if things don't go exactly the way you want them to.  Mike can counsel Glasco on what happens when team chemistry blows up in your face.

OU returns a massive chunk of its semifinals team + picked up their new rent-an-ace, as does Texas.  Pickens isn't leaving Tennessee and they have a top 5 class coming in.  Arkansas is also active in the portal.  Not to mention Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oregon.  UCLA is gutted, so they likely won't be a huge factor in 2026.

Going ahead and crowning Tech as 2026 champions in June of 2025 is pretty dumb, literally anything could happen to them. Canady could blow out her hamstring in March, team chemistry from all the transfers could implode on Glasco, Jazzy Burns could explode Canady's face trying to throw down to 2nd (is 6 years too soon for that?), etc.

Very smart of Terry's agents to get her on the Tech roster. I am sure she got a bag, but next year when Canady leaves she has the chance to make a much bigger payday from those idiots. Mia Williams is an average fielder and hitter, with really good power. She will hit 20+ HR next year in Lubbock. Gerry is trying to build a roster of HR hitters and lock down pitching. Terry will bat when she pitches and DP when she doesn't, same for Canady. This always raises the question of them getting hurt on the base paths, which is a risk you take when you are paying them what those guys are paying. I think Tech will be good to very good next year and will probably start the season ranked #1. Texas and OU will be much more battle tested, due to SEC play, and we will see how it all plays out in OKC.

yes. they can tell all these transfers they were one game away, here's money and come play for a championship.

it would still be a similar situation for Tech once Canady is gone but White still needed that championship pretty badly, given that Tech went all in.  He made it happen and hopefully it pays off big for him and us.

ESPN just wants to gargle Canady’s balls for another 4.5 months

Kavan might be the only active pitcher who is undefeated H2H with Canady in multiple starts and Texas has been responsible for 5 of her career 17 career losses

yet we praise Sarkisian and other coaches for cutting the fat on their football rosters. The portal is here to stay and this is the new way of doing business. If my kid was a recruit these days, I'd urge her to pursue mid major teams, establish herself as a player and then transfer to the highest bidder.

I don't think that's fair to Sark at all. What fat has he cut? The only ones told to leave were dismissed for violating team rules like Cook. As JS said this, "I think the lack of overall portal success outside of the Oregon 4, Joley, Mac, Czech and Dolcini speaks to Mike's belief that the majority of his roster needs to be primarily recruited to Texas and developed by Texas."

Sark has said many times that has been and is his strategy at Texas and he only uses the portal to fill holes. There have been some that have left on their own only because they didn't want to wait their turn. And good riddance to those who think they should start without earning it.

Tech softball has 44% of their roster in the portal. That includes 6 of the 7 Freshmen. Glasco promised them they would be the future of TT softball and now he has recruited over them and said get lost. When has Sark ever even had 10% of his roster in the portal?

There's a vast difference between telling a player, "we don't think you have the talent to be a starter", vs "get lost, we got someone better from the portal".

One key difference in softball is some of those kids may have been committed since they were juniors.  Not as many flips as football or basketball or even baseball.

He may have been "stuck" with some or all of them, and not willing to cut them loose so they couldn't find a scholarship elsewhere after he was hired and after everyone else's classes had signed.  I have not done the research to see how many of those 7 freshmen were committed to the previous coach or got out of their NLI with Louisiana and followed him.

I doubt he promised them anything but a chance, but a first year coach coming in and turning over the roster is not uncommon.

Gasso is different.  Gasso recruits them herself and then recruits over them via the portal.  Glasco hasn't had the chance yet to recruit over his own recruits, assuming most of those 6 freshmen were committed to Snider.

And NOW Tennessee Taylor Pannell is in the portal

Rumor is she already signed a deal with the Matador Club while in OKC (with a clause that the deal is void if she doesn't go to Tech).

And I believe Tech itself is like 1-16 against Texas over the past few years. The win (not against TK, of course) came because we kicked the ball around like a Pee Wee soccer team and hit a batter who was probably about to K.

I even saw some OU fans on Reddit/UCS say that Mike did it "the right way" and didn't buy a title

He recruited, he developed, he filled some holes in a few positions, took the team to the title game last year and then returned them to the title game this year with all the experience and development and reached the top

Any concern that Tech will come after TK once Canady is gone? Would we be able to fend them off?

  • Author

No concern. She loves Mike White and Texas.

She will be headed into her last year of ball when Canady leaves Tech.  Hopefully with a third championship appearance or 2nd title.

Texas lost to Tech in 8 innings, with a no-hitters going into the 8th and 19K’s, with CO pitching. It was a crazy game.

Our last loss to Texas Tech before game 2 of the finals in 2025 was Mike's first year (2019), when Tech was ranked #15.  We lost 2-3 in Lubbock, sandwiched between 2-0 wins on Friday and Sunday

In 2024 didn’t Atwood have back to back game winning hits late to sweep that series?

We swept them pretty laughably, in Lubbock, in 2024.  By 10, 23 and 10

2023, Scott doubled to walk them off in game 1 (3-2) and Atwood in a 2-run HR in the 6th to give Texas a 4-3 lead (and win) in game 2.  We won game 3, 8-3
