I won’t be shocked to see a whole new staff behind Kavan next season. Mac and Simpson are gone. Cit will be bumped to 3-4 via the portal and Salmon will have to find a way to stay on the team as well.

Something that is underrated right now. Mike's call to have the runner steal second during the intentional walk. It would've been easy to just leave her at first...Reese is being walked anyway, what's

Hannah Wells!

Agree, but the consistent decline of our pitchers as they stay in the program definitely seems to be a pattern.  Bizarre if you ask me.  I don't know if coach is too hard on them, too easy on them, or something else.  I doubt it's mechanics.  They seem to lose command . . . lots of walks, Mac can't keep the ball down in the zone, etc.

Sometimes people lose focus, especially when they are seniors and they are leaning on a great young pitcher. It's not like Mac is going to go pro in softball. Im not saying she mailed it in, but she probably isnt as hungry as she was when she first got here.

She may hit her way outta the circle. I believe she has over 20 HRs this high school season already.

Could be.  But I don't think that applies to CG.  Also, take Simpson.  As a freshman, she pitched amazingly in the CWS against OU of all teams.  Also won the game for us against Arkansas in the supers on the road to send us to the WCWS.  I bet most of us can barely even remember that. Now, she can't even get through an inning against bumfuck U.  Once is an anomaly. Two, three, four times . . . that's a pattern.  There's something about Coach White and pitchers.  It's beyond obvious at this point.

Some might say Mac’s issue is that she has been a little too hungry this offseason

^ Didn't know if it was going to be mentioned. She's looks to have gained double digit lbs. Cit has gained a bit too. It could affect mechanics.

It really shouldn't be a touchy subject. If we can casually critique an O-Lineman for putting on extra unnecessary weight during an offseason, we should be able to discuss women athletes similarly. Title IX doesn't like that component of equality, though.

Try finding female athlete weights in any database. Bunch of "N/A" is what you'll see. That's lame.

Saw Hannah Wells pitch against Abilene High, a 5A school Thursday night in a practice game.   Talked to some people and they said she throws @ 72.   She 1-hit Abilene who is 5A district champ, and totally dominated them, 6-1.  I was really impressed with her bat also, batted 4 times and hit 1 homer and a double, another left field drive looked like a bomb, but it was called foul.   I hope Mike can also get a portal pitcher, along with Hannah, because sometimes freshmen don't turn out like you thought they would.... like Salmon.

Man, I would LOVE if Wells becomes our Elish 2.0

But yeah, please get another portal pitcher. I haven’t given up hope on Cam, she needs a full offseason

Wells is a stud. I have been pining for her arrival for a few years now. She has Reese type power at the plate and will be effective on the mound as well. I think she may get to 74-75 mph as she grows into her body. We will see how she turns out.

Also, her high school teammate is a catcher and also a Texas commit

Coahoma High is a 3A school, but they are Nationally ranked in the top 25 teams in the country.

@FloridaHorn   who is the Coahoma catcher who has a scholarship to Texas?   I haven't seen her name in the 2026 Texas recruitments?   TIA

OU and MSST have a DH today, 2pm and 5pm. OU leads 1-0

UCLA and Oregon play at 4. Series tied 1-1

I'm glad somebody else said it, because I have been thinking it the last two years.....especially this year.  As a guy who could stand to lose some lbs himself and is nowhere near his old playing weight, I can't help to think how much more effective she would be in better shape and those short arms not having to throw around those thighs and hips.   I know I couldn't.   Doesn't softball have a S&C program that should have kept that in check?....or is that subject taboo in woman's sports with a male coach?

And I agree, if we can talk about and O or D lineman or a basketball player like Luka we should be able to discuss it about a woman.

I hate to say it, but even on TOS, they’re talking about how much “bigger” some of our players look. Like Mac and Mia. Though Mia has always been thicc but I don’t think it has affected her speed at all

Yes....Mia is another one although, it hasn't seem to limit her production, you just gotta ask how much more could she  have improved being more flexible and lighter.  Same with the others.  Or the flip side it Goode and Katie C seems to have lost some of their thickness.

They absolutely have state and conditioning as well as nutrition specialists. Those people can’t follow the player home or block the Taco Bell drive thru lane though. When my daughter played, there were disciplinary actions for players that missed weight or had conditioning issues. Not sure if that is ok in todays environment.

Definitely noticed Mia thickening up. She seems to be the only one our team that can adjust to offspeed though, so I cut her some slack.

With Mac it was harder to tell . . .

Yea we might need to look at a new softball nutritionist also

OU won 6-5 and are down 4-0 in the second game of the DH

OU sweeps MSST. Landry is their Ace but she’s not un-hittable like Pickens. We need to be focused at the plate from the first inning

These last few posts reminded me of a dugout shot on TV yesterday of Mac eating what looked like a candy bar.  Nutritionist indeed …smh…

This team should know OU is beatable. This is a first RRS for a lot of the OU players

Thirstin for Mac?

The committee is going to have some weird choices when it comes to seeding v RPI -

Texas is #3 in the country, but #8 in RPI
OU is #4, but #9 in RPI
Tennessee is #2, but #10 in RPI
Florida is #2 in RPI, but ranked #7

Only because she was seen eating a meat stick in the dugout...

D1 Softball knocked aggy to #2 and Tenn to #1

Tenn swept Auburn

aggy won 2/3 from Mizzou but got run-ruled in game 3

Texas stays at #3 and OU at #5

At least Tennessee is now in a position to host a super regional so we wouldn’t  have to face them until the CWS at the earliest.

Don't care if it was only 1 game, you get run ruled by Mizzou, you should drop more than 1 spot.

Pickens is the reason they’re #1….but they do have backups….Canady didn’t do the same for Tech…..I’d like to see Tech and Tenn go at it.

If it was decided tomorrow.... (not in order, just listing them)

Tenn
aggy
Texas
OU
UCLA
Oregon
FSU
Florida/LSU

Now, it definitely ain't no coincidence we are right around #3 and Tech would be around #14....

But as i said above, a lot of teams have an RPI problem, but the committee is going to have to look at more than that.  A team like South Carolina at #4 in RPI is not going to be a top 8 team.  Tech at #20 in RPI is still likely a top 16 seed.  Same with Texas/OU/Tenn sitting at 8,9,10 in RPI

D1 Softball also dropped them a spot, moving us back to #1 for OU weekend.

It will be #1 at #5 for the weekend (and #1 at unranked OKST tomorrow)

This week's rankings:

Softball America - #3 (OU #5)
D1 Softball - #1 (OU #5)
Coaches Poll - #2 (OU #3)
ESPN - #3 (OU #4)

Got 1 first place vote in the ESPN poll (Tenn 16 and aggy got 8 ) and 5 first place votes in the coaches poll (aggy got the other 16)

aggy plays ULL tonight and they have arkansas this weekend, so likely another big chance at a top 5 rankings shakeup (Tenn has Ole Miss)
