February 9Feb 9 Goode is really hitting well right now. Maybe she can turn a corner when the pitching improves.

Would love to hear Mike explain why we decided to start like this They had a tournament they couldn’t fill, and when they looked for an alternative, no one wanted Texas to fill a spot for 3 days. So they had to piece something together with people that would give them games.

February 10Feb 10 I don't think Tech is good enough to host a supers. I'm already envisioning the committee matching us or potentially aggy with Tech in the Supers. That's going to be a bitch having to beat Canady 2 times in 3 games. Maybe OU might get screwed for once and get them? It's too early for this talk anyways but I see this coming.

Texas will likely be seeded 1, 2 or 3, which means Tech would have to drop all the way down to 14-16 It may not be easy to match them with us in that case, but I could see them being sent to Norman or aggy
February 10Feb 10 Author Not that it matters, but Texas is #1 in RPI already. NCAA doesn't publish it for a while, but it is tracked https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vR2zN9dzdYS_qrzTHrG8nINPUhPLOqLY8J1EMifsS1tkU2Xl61-cuIgkpT0EEnzUEyL9v0VyyaRxSJI/pubhtml?gid=1332342266&single=true
February 10Feb 10 Did anyone find out what happened to Mia Scott? I think they pulled her after she slid into second. The radio broadcast yesterday mentioned she had swelling but I didn't hear if it was a knee or otherwise.

The radio broadcast yesterday mentioned she had swelling but I didn't hear if it was a knee or otherwise. Mike is notoriously tight lipped about injuries. I am not sure we will know unless someone says something to a $9.95er or friend. This does give lots of opportunities for players like Katie C or Hunter to get into the lineup at the DP position, since the corners are now likely to be a combo of Mitchell/Stewart until Scott returns, with Goode at SS and Bennett/Brister at 2B. OF is Maloney, Henry and then platoon at LF for now. When Reese is DP and Stewie catches, probably will be Katie C at first (?) and Mitchell at 3rd. Not sure who else is capable of playing the hot corner besides Scott, Mitchell and Stewie Edited February 10Feb 10 by Js1

There is so much depth on this team, but I am guessing she is going to end up part of the LF and DP platoons. Ideally, my lineup would be: C - Atwood/Stewie 1B - Mitchell 2B - Bennett/Brister SS - Goode (I miss you Vivi) 3B - Scott RF - Maloney CF - Henry LF - Hunter/Stewie DP - whoever of Stewie/Atwood/Hunter got a day off from being in the field I think Katie C is going to be the one who gets shafted.

I still think Texas is the best team in the country, because they can beat you several ways. Deep, strong pitching staff, Power throughout the lineup and they have great team speed. As long as this Texas team limits Mike's penchant for baserunning mistakes and defensive miscues, I believe they can compete for a title.

We probably were one of the very few programs who could handle losing their starting SS before the season, because this team is extremely deep and versatile.

I agree, but the baserunning has got to be better. We run ourselves out of too many innings either by trying to take an extra base or forgetting how many outs there are. There are big bats scattered up and down the order and this team has a penchant for stupid mistakes that take the bat out of those players hands. I am all for aggression on the bases, but it has to be smart aggression and it has to be at the right time. I would rather see Atwood, Stewie or Mitchell up with a runner at 1b or 2b and two outs in those situations.
February 12Feb 12 Scary part is, next year's team could be better. We lose Scott and Mitchell and a couple of pitchers, but we are bringing in another elite class and the current lineup is loaded with players who will return. Excited for the present and the future of Longhorn Softball.
