September 13, 20241 yr Watching political commentator Paul Begala representing as he opined on CNN. He had this big ass Longhorn on his laptop.
September 13, 20241 yr He was raised in Missouri City, Texas, where his father was an oil-field equipment salesman.[1][2] In 1979, Begala graduated from Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas. He earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin, where he taught briefly. While at the University of Texas, Begala was a candidate for student government president. However, he finished second to a write-in campaign for Hank the Hallucination, a character from the campus comic strip Eyebeam. Following his loss, Begala wrote a tongue-in-cheek complaint for the Daily Texan, arguing "I cannot help but feel Hank's platform is illusory at best...I must say that the candidate himself lacks substance". Begala was declared the winner, following a ruling that imaginary characters could not hold the position.[3] Edited September 13, 20241 yr by RPM
September 13, 20241 yr I thought it was well-known that Begala is a Longhorn. I've always thought he's been a fairly astute political commentator, and it helps he has a full understanding that OU sucks.

The guy has been on TV for years doing this. I think I recall him back in the Obama elections doing this.
September 13, 20241 yr I’m calling bullshit on the Wikipedia article. Student government had been abolished at Texas in 1978 (the “Arts and Sausages” anti-government movement), and the workaround to get some form of student involvement (and resume padding) was to have future law students (face it, that’s pretty much who they were) run for something called “Student Services Fees Committee,” with one of the spots the Grand Poobah, or something like that. That’s what Begala won, not Student Government President. I had multiple friends on the committee. I didn’t know Begala personally, but word was he was actually bright and capable.
