August 6, 20187 yr I'll have to watch one of my all-times favorites in his honor. Spend a lot of time up in the areas where it was filmed, beautiful country. Edited August 6, 20187 yr by Mapache
August 6, 20187 yr Man, I watched the new Pete's Dragon this weekend with him (no I don't have kids, I just like Disney, blow me) and was thinking how he is still such a great actor at his age. Sad to see him go. Gonna have to go brush up on his classics.

August 6, 20187 yr Judging from his work, seems like he retired from acting about 30 years ago. Had a few great ones, though.
August 6, 20187 yr he's got one coming out in a month or two that looks like it could be really damn good. Old man and the gun

August 7, 20187 yr Even though it has Jane Fonda in it, Barefoot in the Park is a very good movie. Pretty damn funny too.
August 7, 20187 yr Barefoot in the Park is excellent. He was damn good in Electric Cowboy too, and Butch Cassidy.
August 7, 20187 yr Watched a bit of that movie where he's on a boat all alone, pretty much looked to have retired from acting by then.

August 8, 20187 yr He’s one of the few actors that I’ll watch anything he’s in. A very talented person as well as a visionary. He opened a lot of doors for independent film makers with his Sundance Film Festival. Edited August 8, 20187 yr by Brandywine

The movie, not the guy.......... still living out there..... somewhere....
August 10, 20187 yr Just watched The Sting with my son last night. Tonight is Butch and Sundance. I would add The Natural. He was on scholarship as a pitcher at CU, but he got kicked out for drinking. His later work is pretty good too. He did some good stuff on aging. A Walk in the Woods and Our Souls at Night are both good movies, once you get past how he looks. I would guess he had plastic surgery on his eyes. Interesting his leading lady in "Souls" was Fonda. Maybe he thought it would be his last, so he wanted to complete the circle.
August 10, 20187 yr It hasn't been mentioned, but he was also really, really good in Spy Game (2001) with Brad Pitt. Very underrated movie, IMO.
August 10, 20187 yr This probably belongs in the unpopular opinions thread, but I always thought Redford was overrated. He always seems relatively flat, without a great range of emotions or character. I like him okay, but don't think he belongs anywhere near the pantheon of great actors.

Great cast, great story, and then they go full "Hollywood liberal" with the ending. Not that I disagree with the overall intent of the message but it was just so heavy handed. That and the part about everyone giving their demands at the end was super cheesy. Awww...Leo just wants that FBI chick's number...isn't that romantic? Blecch.

He talks about that in The Unforeseen, an excellent documentary about the development around Barton Springs (Redford was an executive producer on the film). If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
