Cleveland just traded for Lonzo Ball, could mean that they expect Ty Jerome to leave via FA. I'd take him over the guy from Minnesota.

sign him

there’s no shortage of guard play options for the Rockets this summer the Cavaliers won’t have the cap space to re-sign 6MOY finalist Ty Jerome, meaning he’ll hit the open market if Houston ends up taking a swing at Jerome, it’d be a low-risk, high-reward signing

Very white and regarded looking, but so is Alpi. Bring it on.

Clutchfans consensus seems to be is that it's because Whitmore isn't coachable and it's time to get what you can for him.

I mean, I’ll buy that. Kid is kind of a dick that talks passive aggressive shit about Ime every time they stick a microphone in his face.

Bring in Beasley for minimum once he's through this mess and let him rehab here. Would be awesome to have him coming off the bench as the 8-9th guy.  Dude was in line to make at least a max MLE deal after a great year of 3+D with the Pistons.

This is a part of a continued bit right?

At least we can put this ridiculous chatter to rest.

BREAKING: 11-time NBA All-Star James Harden is declining his player option and intends to sign a new two-year, $81.5 million contract to return to the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell ESPN.

My suspicion is that Durant wouldn't want to play with Harden, anyway.  There was plenty of chance to do so under Morey on a better Rockets team.

How they ace their offseason: You could make the argument Houston has done it already. In a period of two weeks, the Rockets traded for Kevin Durant and agreed to new contracts for Fred VanVleet, Aaron Holiday, Jae'Sean Tate and Jeff Green. They also signed coach Ime Udoka to an extension. The Durant trade was significant not just because the team acquired a top-10 player but also because its depth was kept largely intact.

One move they should make: Let's expand this to multiple moves. The first is to sign Dorian Finney-Smith (if he opts out of his contract with the Lakers) to a two-year, $28 million contract. The VanVleet restructured contract (they reduced his $44.9 million team option to nearly $20 million) gives Houston the flexibility to use the full non-tax midlevel exception and not exceed the first apron. The team would, however, need to waive the $8 million non-guaranteed contract of Jock Landale. The second and most important move is to sign Durant, Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason to extensions. Smith and Eason are eligible to sign until Oct. 20, and Durant has until June 30, 2026, to take a two-year deal.

Great extension. He was #3 overall in a down draft and will never be an MVP candidate, but he’s a hard worker who fills a very important role on this team.

This is shaping up to be a hell of an offseason…

Rafael Stone is crushing it. Jabari’s deal will be a bargain by the 3rd year. He was one of our best players in the playoffs.

#2924

Love the deal for Jabari. He's a quality rotational player but not a star. If he develops into a elite 3 and D wing, the contract is great.

The Rockets offseason so far:

• Resigned Steven Adams to a 3 year, 39M contract
• Extended Udoka to a long term contract
• Traded Green, Brooks, pick 10, and 5 SRPs for KD
• Signed FVV to a 2 Year, 50M contract
• Extended Jabari Smith Jr. to a 5 year, 122M contract

#2926

Seems like a good deal for Jabari. It's a little overpay for what he is right now, but with the way the cap will grow the next 5 years, and what we hope he develops into as a player, it should be a good deal.  Or maybe it just becomes another trade chip next offseason like Jalen Green's extension did this year.  Either way, that's a win for the team, and it guarantees Jabari is set for life if he's smart with his money. Can't blame anyone for doing that.

Now extend KD for 1-2 years at a reasonable rate, and we are golden.

#2929

The MLE this year is $14,104,000, so getting Jabari for a little over 20m for 5 more years ain't bad. The full MLE is going to be hitting 20m in 2030 anyways, so it's a pretty good discount. I do wonder if there will be an option or two at the end to let him try to get a new deal with more money in the future.

It was reported no team or player options a true 5 year deal.

Game Theory really the Jabari deal. Thinks it has great value if he becomes the 4th best player in the team. Still has value if Jabari is the 6th man. If falls in the rotation, it’s still a very tradeable contract.

the Lakers are bracing to lose Dorian Finney-Smith in free agency to the Rockets, per @DanWoikeSportsDFS is COMING TO HOUSTON 🚀

#2936

I don't see how he makes sense, when we need guards and not other forwards, unless we are trading Eason and/or Whitmore for that guard. He's a great role/bench player and I would like to have him, but VanVleet and Sheppard are the only true guards on the roster at this time.

Tyus Jones makes much more sense and has shown to be a more consistent shooter, Ty Jerome would also be a better fit.

Ty Jerome is 5 years younger, plays guard, a better shooter, and scored 4 more ppg than DFS.

#2942

Dorian Finney-Smith would/will be a significant addition to the Rockets. Strong, versatile defender that hit over 41% 3P last year. Attacks closeouts. Lakers defense turned around when they got him and he had the best NetRtg (+11.1) on the team. Boosts Houston, hurts LA. #win

The Rockets are working quickly to secure meetings with Dorian Finney-Smith, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard at the outset of free agency, team sources tell The Athletic.

I like all 3 of these guys.

Alexander-Walker for upside.

Kennard for shooting.

Finney-Smith for pretty decent 3 and D.

#2945

There's also an option of splitting the MLE between multiple players. Tyus Jones played for the Suns last year for like 3 million. If KD can encourage him to come to Houston, you could do that again and still have 11m to throw at someone else.

#2946

They declined Holiday's $4.9 million dollar contract, still have Landale for $8 million AND the MLE

I know there are reports we are going to resign Holiday, but I'm sure if a better option appears they will pivot

#2947

I think Holliday should be a minimum guy. If he can get 5m from someone else, farewell. I would much rather see them spend on a better player than worth about 11-14m a year rather than keeping Holliday. Hopefully he's the last to sign after a couple more deals to fill out the bench. KD is gonna thrive in this environment, he's never had the 2-10 support for a full season like this team will offer him.

Glad we signed DFS and didn’t do a sign and trade with the Lakers by giving up Cam. Please Rafael and Ime, don’t trade Cam.
