Sooooo, I’m in the Amsterdam Airport and ran into this tall dude sporting Rockets gear.  I introduced myself and he said his name was Clint.  Man, he was as nice and gracious as he could be.  I told h

Alpie appears to be rapidly improving. I think there’s a hot/crazy line with his offense/defense. Just need to stay above the curve. He’s made real strides in his defense that make me believe he’s not Sabonis III.

That said, he’s a mid 30% 3 point shot away from being middle class Joker.

I have a feeling he's going to explode this season with real spacing provided for Durant.

Yeah, he should be in line for a big year. He also won't have Jalen Green in his way either, and will have more team-oriented players around him. His assists should go up by having KD taking passes from him instead of Green.

The one issue with this team that I think will be a problem is it lacks in 3pt shooting. They will likely need to make a trade to get someone to help with that, and try to stay under the luxury tax. I'm not sure if that's possible, but we will see. There are a lot of interesting guys that could be available at the trade deadline, and this team has the picks to make an impactful trade without sacrificing continuity.

Just saw a rumor that the Rockets are considering a trade for Trae Young. It would be Van Vleet, Reed Sheppard, Jabari Smith, and multiple 1st round picks. That's a shit load to give up, but Young hasn't signed a long term deal with the Hawks. The trade couldn't be made until October 6th due to Van Vleet's new contract.

Not sure how that would work with Smith's poison pill rookie extension.

I don’t love it. Even if Trae tried really hard on defense, it really would matter because of his size. They’d have to scheme everything around Trae being a turnstile on defense.

Also the Pelicans + the Suns picks would basically turn the Hawks into OKC east.

He's the same size as Van Vleet but a much better offensive player. The Rockets can surround any guard with elite on the perimeter. That's a lot to give up regardless, but the Rockets would easily be at the top of the West next season with the Thunder.

FVV is pretty thick and hard to move. He can defend players much taller than him. But yes, Trae is absolutely the superior player.

if trae young was a longhorn, this thread would be choking on his wang. he's a very good player

rockets also need some cap relief

If Durant would take more three’s that would be a big help.  He shouldn’t be taking half as many as Curry.

Curry can't score inside the arc the way Durant can.

KD knows what he is doing.

Just glad he's healthy, but he should be coming back to Houston with a lot of confidence.

Game Theory had a pretty good piece on what Tari’s extension might look like. Basically, they think the Rockets have to match Jabari’s contract.

Which is fine, but they’d be into the tax pretty good when they max out Amen.

I wonder what the hold up with Tari is. Maybe trying to put some injury guarantee language in there?

I think you answered your own question.  Tari wants Jabari money and Stone is offering less.

It's the off-season, so it's a slow time for NBA news, but if you want to listen to something fun for 15 minutes, Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons pick their 2028 Olympic team rosters. They discuss a few Rockets. Both had Amen Thompson on their teams, and think he could be a starter for that team. KD is likely going to be too old, so they don't pick him. Bill adds Tari Eason as a 9-12 guy, "someone that's just happy to be there and will give it their all in limited minutes." Would be cool if they both make it, especially if Tari is on a long contract by then.  They both love the idea of having a "release the dogs" type lineup with a bunch of really good defenders like them, Mobley, Jalen Williams, and someone to deal with a big center when playing Wemby or Jokic.

USA team starts around 44 minutes.

Amen starting on the 2028 team would be a trip, but I can see it if moderately improves every season for the next 3 years.

Out of morbid curiosity, what was Simmons’ trade rape scenario where the Rockets send Tari to the Celtics in exchange for some rapidly aging veterans?

I really like the idea of Eason starting at the 3 and bringing Smith off the bench.

Simmons LOVES Brown. I think he’s called trading Brown unthinkable before.

Houston's only shot at a long playoff run is the Rockets.

Any word on how/when the injury occurred? I assume this occurred while training. Reed better step the fuck up this year. Fuck the shitty run we’re having with Htown sports. Rockets basketball was supposed to save us.

Who’s even available at this point to pick up that would help like FVV? I wouldn’t sign anyone and roll with what we have till the trade deadline. Fucking sucks.

Fuck, that is a real kick in the balls. Don't think much of anyone will be truly available until the trade deadline.  Chris Paul can still run an offense and makes 3.6m with the Clippers this year, who are embroiled in the Aspiration scandal, maybe they could get him?  If nothing else, he would be an awesome mentor to the young guys. Harden is making 39 million, which would be difficult to acquire, but he could also be made available for the same reasons.

Maybe move Alpie to Point Guard/Forward?

Quinten Grimes is still a RFA with the 76ers. They could offer him the full 14m for 1 year, which Philly could match, or they could work a trade somehow.

And yeah, Westbrook is still available, but not a realistic option for a PG with KD on the team. Who knows.

Silver lining they had to trade for a guard anyway, this will expedite things.

Also forces Reed into a deep end of the pool sink or swim situation instead of the team his entire rookie deal trying to figure out if he’s good.

I think any short term fixes are going to require taking a bad contract in a trade and going into the apron as stated above. Not sure they’re willing to do that yet.

Maybe it rips the band aid off. While I like Fred, he wasn’t supposed to get a second contract. Jalen Green sucking shit changed their plans.

I’m not going to arm quarterback their summer decision making, but I bet they wish they signed another guard instead of Capela right now.

Hopefully we get a nice surprise out of training camp, and a guy like Davidson emerges as a rotational player. Also have a trade deadline to get whatever we might need.

Think we just slow the pace and let KD, Amen etc handle the ball more and lean in to defense and size.

And this is what will end up happening.
