September 30, 20241 yr Popular Post I hated on Broughton for his first three years here. He was soft and stood straight up out of his stance way too often. But he noticeably improved last year, and has continued that trend this year. The hardest thing to evaluate from outside the program is work ethic and effort. This dude’s obviously been killing it in those areas. He’s also a good reminder that experience and seniority is usually more important along the LOS than talent/star ranking (with the rare exceptions like Collin Simmons). I couldn’t be more happy for him having a breakout year. He’s making himself millions of dollars this year, and I love to see it. Edited September 30, 20241 yr by Burt Macklin

I was going to joke, "Imagine how much better he'd be if Bo Davis were still around." This is great to see for Broughton. And I agree that Baker looks like a very good hire. The snippets of his coaching that have been made public show that he knows how to coach technique, etc. From what little I know of DLine coaching
September 30, 20241 yr I figured he would be better this year after improving last year. I didn’t have him being better than Collins on the bingo card though.
September 30, 20241 yr It was obvious at Iowa State last year that his family was completely bought into the program and enjoying the family atmosphere. Not that it directly relates to his play.

But the type of weird hire that makes you think he was recommended by a lot of people.

I thought he was a pure JAG, and then the spring game thing was really weird. But he’s been really good this year. Impressive stuff

Impressive stuff They were pissed at the dude and vaguely threw shade in public. It’s crazy how well things have gone for him this year. This kind of thing pretty much never happened with prior regimes. Dude goes into the doghouse as a role player, write that dude off. Not today, apparently.

I was hyped about the hire after I read that article about him. Dude shot up the ladder pretty quickly and produced draft picks at Western Kentucky or somewhere weird. September 30, 20241 yr Could play his way into the 5th or 6th round vs lost in the shuffle under prior regimes

Maybe ignoring marriage advice from our coaches actually showed wisdom beyond his years.
December 4, 20241 yr And I had to clip this GIF out of the game mini-movie. Laughed my ass off. This was just after the last drive fumble recovery. Feel free to send it to any aggys you (unfortunately) know, like -- I don't know -- Trey Zuhn...
