Neither does Sheppard because they can't play him with FVV because they're both 6 feet tall.  Castle has an NBA body and can play and guard multiple positions.

If you're going to commit big money to FVV, fine but I don't recommend, then you can't draft another undersized point guard.

In a redraft, no one would take Sheppard over Castle.

Never implied so. I just think Castle wouldn’t have changed the win total on the season.

Spurs were a much better fit for him to get mins on a bad team instead of ridding the bench or playing in the G League.

I think chickensandwich and aqua can both be right here. If Castle could shoot, the pick is a no brainer.

Reed measured 6’1.75” at the combine. I think the plan was for Reed to eventually replace FVV, not necessarily play them together.

I do think either would struggle to make the rotation. That’s not to say the Rockets are so good/deep that couldn’t use a ROY contender. Ime low key hates rookies. Also Holiday is technically the back up PG, and he barely plays as the 9th and final rotational player. They’re a very forward heavy team.

am i missing something? who's houstons back up PG? Why couldnt FVV be a bridge PG to Castle?

The original point trying to be made was that Houston would be way better THIS season with Castle instead of Reed. Any Rockets fan will tell you it doesn't do much for them. As far as the PG in waiting goes, either guy could have been that too.

Now if you want to talk future prospects in 3+ years, yeah Castle might be better. Reed just isn't getting the minutes needed to really show his capabilities and make a dent in the roster because the top 8 guys are very well set on the Rockets. The Spurs have a lot more minutes for rookies to get experience and put up stats. If Reed was on that team, he would probably be in the RoY conversation too, just given the minutes available and his ability to hit 3s.

Yes. He is a great young player but cant shoot and we have better defenders. Speaking this year only he doesn’t move the needle for Houston

Why are you comparing him to Cam Whitmore? Castle is nothing like that dude. And no Whitmore would not put up 20 ppg on the Spurs. Gtfoh.

Castle is a combo guard that can play on-ball or off-ball and is putting up 18/5/5 post-ASB as a rookie. He needs to work on his shooting but he isn't incapable from 3 - just inefficient.

Dude is the fucking truth and you'd have to twist my arm for me to take anyone on HOU's roster but Amen over him going forward.

Holiday is technically the only other PG in the rotation. When FVV sits they really don’t have a PG in the game. They’ll use Amen, Green, and sometimes Brooks to bring it up/initiate the offense.

I’m not ready to bury Reed, but hindsight Castle would have been a better pick. Reed is athletic, 42” vertical, and good wingspan for his size. He’s been active on defense when he’s played. Deflections, steals, and even a few blocks. I think this gives him a chance. If you can’t defend, you’re not playing for Ime.

I assume the Rockets took Reed because they A) needed a PG and B) wanted to give Whitmore more minutes. Obviously, neither worked out this season, but they’re the 2 seed in the West.

Great video breaking down how the game has evolved and how defense is harder than ever to play due to the movement, shooting, and spacing of today's game.

I might be wrong on the Rockets. Another big W last night. Is the UH energy transitive if they win tonight?

OKC seems like they're bored at this point.

Just not sure what to expect from any of these series except I don't love Memphis or Denver and I'd be shocked if OKC loses.

Btw Simmons called that Nuggets 2OT loss "catastrophic" 😂

I didn't realize Denver had slipped so much.  They're basically in the 4/5 spot with the Clippers, who have moved up.  If the season ended today, OKC would play Memphis in the first round and then Denver or the Clippers in the second round.  That's the absolute best case scenario for them.  (I'm counting on Sacramento and Dallas to lose in the play in.  Somehow, Phoenix couldn't even make that.)

Still a big log jam but a lot of these teams play each other, even on the last day.  Some may rest some people but some may not be able to.

Wow on Malone. It’s clear he got blamed when I’d argue it’s the front office’s fault for building a team without a bench.

100% Boothe's fault

Nvm, Boothe got fired too

Ownership must want a clean slate

Booth is gone too, maybe it got nasty between them and the owners said you're both gone.

Wolves broke the Nuggs lol

Well Russell did but we helped . This is crazy. Even charlotte waits until the seasons over

That is insane.   They may have slipped a little but firing the coach that brought you your only title less than 2 yrs later......on the eve of the playoffs fucking crazy

Murray must be cooked for the year and they’re punting.

2019 Raptors - Nurse fired
2020 Lakers - Vogel fired
2021 Bucks - Budenholzer fired
2023 Nuggets - Malone fired

Even if so and they truly believe that they have no realistic chance at playoffs success (and the additional revenue that comes with it), what does "punting" mean with 3 games left and a pretty secure playoff berth?

I mean, the opportunity to coach the best player in the sport (who's also incredibly low maintenance) has to be a little tempting to anyone who has ever held a clipboard.

Honestly - Donovan probably wouldn't be a bad hire.

Nope - ownership fired too. They're moving to Vegas and trading Jokic for Bam Adebayo.

Kerr and Mazzulla are the only 2 champ coaches of the past decade to not get fired. Since Lue got fired in 2016

The NBA knows it can cook up some drama.   There is not one thing that makes this reasonable outside of Malone and Boone running a bustos on the owner's wife LOL

That was my thought.  They're done if Jamal isn't going to be back for the playoffs.

I wonder how the Nuggets will do post Malone?

If the new GM can actually build some bench depth, I think the new coach can do well.  But the shit ass bench the Nuggets have just doesn't cut it in the NBA.

Did the Nuggets have a bench of young guys that just weren’t working out? It feels like every maxed out team in the NBA has a bench full of 3 and D veterans on league minimum deals.

Yes. Lots of young guys on the bench.

Simmons was getting on them on Sunday about being below the 2nd apron. Idea being if you have Jokic you should be maxing the cap every season...

Without a coach they are going to be running in Circles. That is unless they have a White Iverson waiting in the wings. I really don't think it will be Better Now, and Joker should probably Leave next year and say his Goodbyes.

My highly educated, not at all pulled out of my ass theory is that Grizzly and Nugget ownership didn't want to risk their teams making an unlikely run to the WCF, thus making firing these guys--who they obviously soured on--much more difficult.

If an interim coach makes a postseason run, who cares, you still do a full coaching search.

An All Star game has broken out in the Lakers/OKC game. Thunder leads 80-72 at halftime.

Except they're playing defense.  Not many open shots.

It’s not a big secret that Malone and Booth hated each other and clashed a bunch. I’m just surprised they’re both out.

The Thunder, talented as they are and with having the likely MVP, do not really worry me if the Lakers can advance three rounds. Very tall task to make it that far for the Purple and Gold, but watching the Thunder they just give off a 2007 Mavs vibe. Holmgren has such a high skill level yet is Charmin soft at times.
