Users will need to download the Russia2024 app and prove their citizenship by scanning their passports with their phones. The passports have a biometric chip that the tool uses to confirm the voter's identity and facilitate an anonymous vote. If a person doesn’t own a smartphone, a single phone can be used as a shared voting machine.

Voting will be allowed for about two weeks, and the backers behind the tool are “sure” it is a secure way to vote and that voters don't need to fear repercussions.

... using Rarimo’s Freedom Tool, which will use the Arbitrum blockchain and zero-knowledge cryptography, making voters' identities untraceable. ...

Quote

Freedom Tool is a Rarimo-built open-source software for citizen-run, anonymized elections and polls. It has solved the long-standing technical challenge of enabling digital identity checks while also protecting citizens from tracking. Anyone, anywhere, can use it to build voting systems outside of state apparatus. This will provide safe outlets for silenced people to express dissent and is part of a broader effort to embed privacy into the digital world.
...
With Freedom Tool, citizens prove their eligibility by scanning their biometric passports with their phones. Freedom Tool verifies the data on the NFC chip inside the passport and after confirming that it is legitimate issues an anonymous voting pass. The citizen then uses this pass to cast their vote.

Zero-knowledge cryptography is used to sever any link between the voting pass and the passport data so that the two cannot be paired. When the ID and the voting pass cannot be paired, neither can the citizen and their vote.

Privacy is further ensured by the fact that it is only the voting pass that interacts with any external voting apparatus. The passport data never leaves the mobile device used for scanning. This means that the data never passes through a server, and that there are no points where it could be intercepted.

Freedom Tool uses blockchain to protect votes from rigging. All votes are published directly onto the blockchain where they are both tamper-proof and publicly auditable.

A more detailed technical description can be found here in the White Paper.

Regulatory fight picking up steam. Good to see Senators from each party addressing this.

President Biden's DOJ steamrolling the longstanding interpretation of FinCEN is legally wrong and threatens to criminalize Bitcoin software development in America. @RonWyden and I have sent a bipartisan letter to DOJ urging it to drop this interpretation immediately. ⬇️

If the spot ETH ETF is approved, it will be a true shock to everyone I know in DC who's close to this process. That doesn't mean it won't happen. It means approval could signal a major shift in US crypto policy after the SAB 121 vote, perhaps more important than the ETF itself. https://t.co/ru0iD0GJIC

It's a broader shift that's causing a reaction from the other side.

NEWS 🚨 The White House will not issue a veto threat against FIT for the 21st Century Act, the crypto market structure overhaul bill being voted on today. Flags "concerns" but no veto threat. This is a huge win for crypto backers on the Hill https://t.co/WvxQNpmLQW

My how the turn tables. It says they're opposed, but does not issue veto threat unlike the resolution voted on just one week ago.

The Biden administration supporting crypto after violently attacking it for years

They've seen some polling or something that has forced this shift. Seems that it is an actual issue to be concerned about in Presidential election year. I don't buy it though. I think they shift back as soon as election is done.

In an election year there is little upside in actively trying to alienate any group unless the opposite opinion treats the issue as a make or break vote. I doubt there is a big coalition of anti-crypto people who will vote solely based on this issue.

Crypto miners here participate in demand response programs. When the demand is high they curtail usage and typically shut completely off. It's the concept of flexible loads. So at peak demand crypto will have zero responsibility for taking down the Texas grid.

That's unlike a new player in energy demand.  AI compute is not a flexible load player. In fact, it will be the runaway energy usage leader soon if it isn't already. Larry Fink from Blackrock expects trillions in energy infrastructure will be needed for AI, so goodbye to net zero anytime soon. Turns out it's AI boiling the oceans.

From the piece

Analysts expect ERCOT electric use will top that all-time high this summer with economic and population growth in Texas and demand for power from data centers, artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency mining rising fast.

Again only one of those curtails. So better luck next time.

Also Eth ETF approved.

BOOM!! APPROVED! There it is. The SEC just approved spot #Ethereum ETFs. What a turn of events. It's really happening.h/t @PhoenixTrades_

What a quick turnaround. Obviously a political decision. Rules or laws they were citing previously don't matter. Their supposed principles are irrelevant. Very Fiat decision making process.

That taxpayer money should be going towards battery storage and distributed renewables deployments, not giving handouts to imported mining operations so they'll buy a long term power contract with private companies.

Why do you think Texas legislators chose Bitcoin miners over those options?

Because they're whores for campaign donations, and their O&G buddies want a customer for all the gas they're producing? And there's a weird cognitive bias against renewables in general for Texas legislators.

There's unlimited customers for natural gas. If you're referring to utilizing flared gas it has nothing to do with energy usage on the grid.

Campaign donations? There's plenty of green energy money floating around. Put it to work.

Bias against renewables? I thought Texas was a renewable leader and they're saving our ass or whatever the thread says.

Not of your complaints make sense.

The only complaint that matters is that Texas taxpayers/electricity bill payers shouldn't pay mining companies to not use electricity. I'm ok if miners want to be here but when electricity demand goes too high, they should be cut off without reimbursement. And I would understand perfectly if they wouldn't want to do business in Texas because of that.

Idk why you keep being let back onto the site despite your history of socks and trolling and disinformation across COVID and Ukraine, but just so your lies don't go unanswered:

Show me widespread instances of cryptofarms actually using flared gas. You keep touting it like a solution but it doesn't exist at the scale you're claiming credit for. There isn't "unlimited customers", otherwise it's price would be massively inflated from its current position. There's a glut of the stuff, and by paying these operations tens of millions in public funds to come into Texas it's providing a demand for the stuff and disincentivizing investment in renewables because "they aren't reliable enough for what the """market""" is demanding"

It's fucking absurd that public funds are subsidizing the fucking hash rate

Sure. That's what politicians do. They try to secure votes from different constituencies. A campaign promise is much more benign than other ways that are currently being pursued.

The fact that he's on the record regarding self custody explicitly is noteworthy.

I don't care about y'alls pissing match, but wow... You apparently have not been paying attention.  Biden admin has been prosecuting Sen Warren's war on crypto up until someone finally woke up and told them this issue could cost them the election a week or so ago.  The war on crypto and the war on cash both are/were designed to pave the way for a CBDC.

Gold doing well is not a credit to Biden.  It's an indictment of American foreign policy and monetary policy.

#4300

How has warrens war manifested itself? The IRS was interested in crypto as early as 2014 but reporting requirements have seemingly increased every year. BTC ETFs are now well established and ETH ETFs are here now too. If Warren is waging a war, it seems she’s losing or has little influence.

I see now that orange man has dabbled in ethereum (not sure how he acquired it, if he still hodls it, if he paid taxes on it, etc). The republicans seem to be embracing crypto but I struggle to trust they won’t fold like cheap suits as the dollar comes under more and more pressure in the coming years
