The 67-year-old British actor quit acting after starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film Phantom Thread, and has largely stayed out of public life since. But he is now set to star in a film titled Anemone, directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis, US independent production company Focus Features confirmed on Tuesday. The film will feature actors including Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green, and is currently shooting in Manchester.
October 2, 20241 yr Started reading the topic and for a second I thought "OH FUCK ANOTHER ALEC BALDWIN SITUATION"
October 2, 20241 yr Very happy he's coming back, even if for just one more movie. In this age of attention whores this guy is the real deal
October 2, 20241 yr Was Phantom Thread good? Gangs of New York is my favorite of his (with a strong runner up nod to Last of the Mohicans), and I loved There Will Be Blood, but the subject matter of PM looks kinda boring.

I have downloaded it multiple times to watch on a flight and just can't seem to ever even start it. I love me some DDL but there is nothing interesting to me about that film.
October 2, 20241 yr It’s pretty fucked up, but in a subtle way. I like it. You guys seem more at home with a Fast and Furious marathon.
October 2, 20241 yr I think his most amazing acting was in My Left Foot. Maybe it’s not as impressive if you haven’t interacted with people with athetoid CP, but he absolutely nails it Edited October 2, 20241 yr by Sawbonz Duck you autocorrect
October 2, 20241 yr DDL supposedly had the crew carry him around between takes during My Left Foot because he wouldn't stop pretending he didn't have the disease and they were getting really, really annoyed with him. Nobody was aware of his commitment to method acting just yet.

Nobody was aware of his commitment to method acting just yet. Not that he is the same caliber, but IIRC, Shia LaBeouf refused to shower during the filming of Fury so that he could look and feel the part. Not everyone was thrilled with it. Sacha Baron Cohen also does method acting, because he feels like he cannot enter and exit characters like more seasoned actors.

Love me some pretentious cinemaphile smack, especially when it’s a cheap shot. I’ll say, Phantom Thread is best enjoyed on the big screen when you can be fully immersed. Great acting and eye candy. It will lose a lot on an airplane small screen, but can help put you to sleep.

I saw Phantom Thread at the brooklyn academy of music opera house with a live orchestra performing the score. One of the great movie going experiences of my life.

October 24Oct 24 LaBoof also knocked out one of his teeth on purpose for that movie. Bible. Perhaps his best performance.
